The wine is slightly tawny. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like leather, red currant, fig and tobacco. The body is medium. The wine has polished texture. Les tannins sont bien fondus. Lovely fruit despite age.

Soutard 2001 - St Emilion Grand Cru Classe - This would have to be one of my favourites this year. This is on a pure limestone plateau which was one of the smoothest softest wines this is right up there. This has a hauntingly elegant nose and when you drink it it feels like it evapourates in the mouth. The body and richness is there and it leaves a finish of 20-30 second which takes this wine to another level of complexity.

Decanted 2 hours prior to dinner, returned, immediately to bottle. Not sure I would have decanted this, but I can say that the service temp of 72F definitely detracted here (not within my control). More on the nose and palate to appreciate than there was this time last year, but still not beyond the category of good. Smoky plum, cut tobacco, soil and red currants. Excellent acidity, mostly resolved tannins. Drink now thru 2015
Showed considerably more than, and better than, my first bottle two years ago - maybe that one was flawed. This is still no wild & crazy extrovert, but it's a bit savory (mushrooms) on top of its gentle darkish fruit. Nothing to rush out any buy, but it'll do OK with a broad range of land animal-based dinners. Just don't expect anything more than decent kinda generic tween right bank bdx.

Quite a bit better than previous bottles. Needed an hour or two to open up and get rid of a harsh metallic taste, but then was quite enjoyable. Light bodied, good balance, plenty of life left to it. Nothing to wow anyone, but we had no trouble polishing this off.

Wine is in a good phase. Decanted for 1 hr. Returned to bottle and left open for 3 hrs. Funk that was present 2 years ago was gone. Good balance of fruit, tannin and acidity was good. Dark fruit, minerality, and touch of leather.

Slow-O 1 hr, consumed over the following 2 hours. Average on all accounts, I can see how this ended up as a WTSO closeout wine. Nothing offensive, but nothing memorable either. Very glad I don't own any because there are oh-so-many other things I'd rather be drinking.

Really good right bank claret opened due to having fillet steak for dinner. Nice nose, typical Bordeaux but suggested more left bank to me. Nice solid palate and some good weighty red fruits. Quite tannic and proved a good foil for the steak

A nice, shy, feminine claret, with a lovely nose and classic palate but not much complexity, excitement, or depth. I liked it, but wouldn't pay $35 again.

This bottle didn't seem to have much of the earth & funk others describe, and I'd've liked some, What I had was decent and with nice smooth midweight structure and middling acidity but maybe a little too subtle & restrained (not to say one-note) for my palette - where's the tobacco, the earth, the secondary flavors which have emerged a decade after vintage? Hopefully my remaining bottles will be a bit more interesting, perhaps with a little more age on 'em. (Oct 2013 edit: I bet this was subtly corked; a recent bottle showed considerably more depth and dimension)

Very nice St. Emilion and well worth the money. Got a taste from the person I gifted it to. Bottle was open to air for several hours before consumption.

Earthy with a bit of funk on nose. Rich and full on palate with acidity and some tannin. Fruit was subdued but dark - old world, for sure, with some mineral. Some potential for aging, still pleasant on second day.

Solid 90. Smooth and supple. Everyone has their own taste and must drink what they like, but I do not understand a 70 rating. This is a good wine. Enjoy!

Past it's prime but still drinkable. Not much fruit left and mostly vegetables and minerals. The more I drink it, the better it seems to get.

Still drinking great. Honestly think it has 5-10 more years. Sad it’s my last bottle

Less concentrated than I remember - starting to fade? Still fruit and soft tannin structure present, but I would drink up now.

consistent with prior notes. May even be improved from the last bottle opened 6 months ago. Coming together well.
