Two hour decant, this has a fantastic nose and palate, with cherry, minerals, florals and some light clove. Complex on the palate with many layers of flavor to peel back, this medium mouthfeel, medium length finish wine is quite wonderful.

Mineral-driven with ripe cherries and raspberries, elevated acidity and firm tannins - but still medium body. Dry. Some alcohol warmth, a certain roundness probably from the use of used french oak barrigues but there is nothing "oaky" about this wine, rest assured.

If I had to pick one wine from these recent tastings to put in my cellar today, this would be it. The 2012 Calderara Sottana was deep, rich, and vibrant. On the nose, I found dark earth, ripe black cherry, crushed raspberry, sweet herbs, dusty spice and minerals. On the palate, silky textures were contrasted by sweet tannin-laced black cherry, spice, cocoa and saline-minerality. It coated the senses throughout the finish with concentrated cherry and pomegranate, while hints of tannin lingered on. Wow!

The consummate etna rosso. Textured cherry. Strawberries on a warm day. Broadens significantly with 20 min air. Orange and cocoa. Oats maple and brown sugar smell. Not sweet but somehow like the most delicious cake. Drink 2017-2024.

Le nez de beaujolais (fraises mûres surtout) nous laissent croire que le vin sera léger et gouleyant mais la bouche évoque plutôt le Nebbiolo par puissance, son acidité et finale tannique très serrée mais fine en même temps. Le fruit est néamoins très présent et le vin, bien qu'évidemment très tannique, se boit très bien (avec de la bouffe, sinon ça râpe un peu le palais !). Vin de Sicile composé de Nerello Mascalese (98%) et de Nerello Cappuccio (2%).
