  • Really good stuff; served to introduce some friends to Carema; alpine strawberries, wild herbs, hint of tobacco and leather; floral; orange peel; very fresh and yet starting to mature a bit; palate was lovely with a beautiful elegance and yet still plenty of substance. No rush, but drinking well now.

  • Very light on its feet. Drank well after hour decant with home ragu bolognese.

  • Solid Nebbiolo in the prime of its drinking window. Great with charcuterie board.

  • This was lovely. Better with air. Great long sappy finish.

  • PnP, for dinner an hour or so later, no TN.
Light color and some beginning of bricking.
Weird nose at first, but it improved quickly. It also seemed to get more weight and body during the dinner and the last sips were the best. A balanced, complex and overall very nice Carema, which is starting to enter its mature phase.

  • The bouquet on this is downright seductive. Takes me to primeval forest flower places. See my note from March 22nd of 2022 for more specifics.
Tonight’s impression further emphasizes that the acidity, length, and synergy found here promises two or three years more of peak drinking pleasure.

  • This is showing so beautifully. The color is light, but the nose and palate is big! Tar and cherries and cedar on the nose. Palate is earthy, fruity, acidic, minerally. Tannic bite is still there.

  • Still drinking wonderfully, but I think it is at its limit and should be drunk up in the next year or two.

  • So in its prime .
Four hours after opening, this Ferrando is still offering up beautiful rose & woodsy forest scents. Great with dinner , though now even more satisfying as the savory mineral components combine with subtle tar, cinnamon and tart cherry in a long wave goodbye. I plan on trying this again in the spring of ‘23 and perhaps closing out my last bottle around 2025 or ‘26

  • Pale garnet/orange. Elegant and delicate. Lot of finesse. The profile of a watercolour paint. It’s all about nerves: Tension, energy without being powerful. Rose, yellow peach skin, ethereal notes and gentle tannins.

  • This wine seems to have all to components however it seems like it is just not ready to drink as yet. Almost no fruit on day one with tight nose and aggressive acid and tannins. More approachable on day 2 with some of the cherry and red fruit flavors coming through. Will try again in another 9 years ?üòÅ

  • Very light color typical of this wine as it ages. Quite savory and fresh on the palate with muted dark cherry fruit and a nice hint of eucalyptus. I love the texture of this wine and the finish has a nice succulence and good mineral complexity with notes of herbs and mountain grasses. I like the way the Black Label ages and I prefer to drink the White Label in the first 10 years after the vintage.

  • Really has matured some since the last bottle. Sweet tar and cherries and cedar on the nose. Palate is delicious nebbiolo fruit with earth, along with some tannic bite. I think it is getting right in its great window...

  • Really interesting nose of pine needles, cedar and menthol. It has a lovely round, savory texture and shows muted fruit flavors of mulberries and cherries along with notes of earth and green tobacco. Finishes dry and succulent with hints of pine and wintergreen. One of the better white labels made over the last 15 years and it can be drunk now with pleasure.

  • This was my first wine from Ferrando and I must say I quite enjoyed it. I've had a couple other wines from the Alto Piemonte and always found them tasty; this was like a hybrid of nebbiolo and pinot noir. The nose has bright red fruits of cranberry, raspberry, bing cherry; along with floral notes of lilac and rose, hints of orange peel, a whiff of tobacco and tar. The palate is definitely more pinot than Barolo and is energetic, elegant, and simply delicious. Vibrant acidity gives it excellent lift and while there are some tannins there, they are filigreed and barely noticeable. This has years to develop, but is certainly delicious now. I'll have this on my radar to be buying more for sure.

  • Sweet tar and cherries and cedar on the nose. Somewhat lighter color than is typical for Ferrando Carema. Palate is light with very supple fruit and spice and some tannic bite. Probably a bit too young to drink yet. Doesn't have the depth of flavor of some of his older Caremas.

  • Lighter color. Juicy and fresh with lovely floral cherry notes. Finishes crisp with good snap and vigor. Having drunk these wines for a while now, its become clear to me that the white label is best drunk young as it doesn’t really improve over time whereas the black label is made for aging and really becomes more complex and exciting after 10+ years.

  • 16c; bottle opened 1 hour; brilliant, light coppered-red; delicate floral nose; explosive attack, rasping tannins, long finish; loads of iron and schist, subtle mint, raspberries, red cherries, light tobacco; second day, rest of bottle was darker, brooding; metals and stone still dominate, but fruit and herbs enhance the nose and offer great complexity (should be decanted); just lovely--a unique expression of Nebbiolo; a bit too young; 18

  • Two years since my last tasting and this has definitely developed positively. Beautiful pure nose of red cherry fruit. Compared to the 2010 Produtorri Carema Riserva next to it, the Ferrando was more refined, less rustic. High degree of elegance with hidden power. Delicious.

  • Rubino pallido. Lungo

  • first from this vintage. More like a (say) Gevrey-Chambertin than a Barolo. excellent acidity, slowly emerging flavors and a nose that needed some coaxing; easily another 2 decades to go.Typical Rosenthal elegance--which is a very good thing.

  • Fiori macerati, frutta candita, catrame. Sorso vellutato e carezzevole, che ricorda la dolcezza del frutto di un grande sangiovese di annata calda. Tannino soffuso, plastico, a tratti impercettibile. Un vino che piace a tutti, un confetto sferico nato per far sorridere.
Difficile bere meglio a questo prezzo......

  • Clear pale garnet, some legs but not pronounced.

Nose is clean, medium intensity, showing some development with aromas of cherry, but a herbaceous cut-grass overtone, meadow flowers, some leather but not overwhelming, almost menthol too but not quite.

Palate is dry, tannins very smooth, high acidity & medium+ alcohol, body quite full. Medium+ flavour intensity, notes as per the nose with the primary fruit being red cherry, but a savoury, herbaceous flavour also quite dominant. A juicy note on the finish, which is long.

    Excellent quality.

  • Very satisfying nebbiolo, though I must admit I liked it better when you could buy the black label for less than the $60 this one ran. Tough to justify this relative to some of the top-shelf Barolo and Barbaresco you can get at this tab, although the one thing it offers that they generally can't is early accessibility. This is supple and leans on acid more than tannin for its structure - in fact there is something about it that's genuinely thirst-quenching, but as a result it goes down slick and easy. The flavors are already developed and winey (no primary fruit here), the color already a translucent brick/garnet.

  • Very well made, enjoyable wine. This is the bottling that does not see much oak, relative to the black label, and I much prefer it for that reason. Will hold and drink well for years, if not decades, but now showing loads of spice, cherry-rose, wood smoke, with clearly delineated structure and good finish.

  • Private Dinner (Metairie, LA): This was wonderfully open and aromatic for an infant, and that's part of the beauty and wonder of Ferrando's Carema: It arrives essentially ready to drink and only gets better with age. Unfortunately, with eight people at the table, I shorted myself, only getting half a glass. What I smelled and tasted was lovely: sour cherries, earth, minerals, and the mountain air. I look forward to the wine's nuance coming out over the next 20 or more years. Rated 2 on a scale of -1 to 3.

  • A lovely wine which takes some time to unfold. Decanted and sampled, then started on it after about an hour, and drank over the next few hours. Very pale and crystal clear red, with a very slight rusty hue. Starts off fairly tightly clenched, elegant, earthy, minerals, excellent acidity. When it opened up it seemed to gain weight and texture, yet always retaining a sense of tension and focus. The aromas are simply intoxicating:earth, spice, some floral notes, very complex, constantly changing. The palate is firm, elegant, minerals, savory, and again the word complex comes up. I suppose there are some tannins, but they're so finely grained that they're almost invisible. A wine that makes you come back over and over again. So lovely!

  • Crystal clear, intriguing nose of crushed berries, stems, twigs, earth. Some citrus notes. Lovely palate with noticeable acidity. Even at 4 hours of air this is not showing its full potential, and the 2009 is showing better. Will wait on other bottles.

  • Pale with incomplete clarity. Ethereal aromatics of soil and black fruit. Weightless and wafting on the palate with delicacy, complexity, great acidity, and a seamless weaving of flavors that makes it virtually impossible to pick out any single element as being dominant. A lovely, subtle expression of Nebbiolo.

  • Questo è un gran vino, profumo celestiale. Rimando alla prossima bottiglia una nota più dettagliata. Da comprare assolutamente visto anche l'incredibile rapporto qualità prezzo.
