  • Bye Bye Timmy (Convivial - Washington, D.C.): From magnum. Another killer bottle of this champagne. Had a real brightness/freshness to it that made it feel younger than it's actual age. Great toasty flavors of hazelnut, brioche, and cream. Palate was zippy, but also had really nice depth.

  • Table Donkey & Stick Terroir Tuesday tasting (and my birthday!). Clearly the winner of the three wines tonight. The nose has great depth. Bright citrus, orchard fruit (pear particularly) flavors with a hint of nuttiness. These components combined with zesty acidity make clear both the quality of the vintage and the producer. This was several notches higher in pitch and concentration than the '04 served alongside. Brilliant.

  • Nose: There is beautiful maturity to the nose with red apples, baked bread, pear, some honey notes, baking spices, quince, mineral notes, hazelnuts, and a touch of wax. The nose is very complex and deep.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium/high acidity. The acidity has sharpness, but it's not overpowering with red apples, baked bread, quince, hazelnuts, honey, some wax, and baked pears.

Overall: This is drop dead gorgeous. There is excellent depth and layering with a real sense of class.

  • I'm a big fan of PP. I've tasted several vintages over the past 4 years. The '96, from Magnum, was outstanding. I enjoy the 'signature' hazelnut taste of the champagne. Limited tiny bubbles. Love the nose. Yummy.

  • We opened it (From a magnum) along with 11 fellows @ Virage. Bright gold color. Great nose- hazelnut on nose and palate, ,oak and fruits. On the dry side compare to other champagnes, which is a great plus for me. Medium plus finish. Enjoyable. As one of my fellows said- everything you have in the '02 Pierre Paillard, just with more age and more elegance to it. Great work. Wish I had more detailed notes, but I should go back through my documentation later.

94+ and held strong and stable against the Krug MV (imho, better, but the vote was about fifty fifty, iirc)
