  • APPEARANCE: Medium yellow colour with a greenish hue. No sediments.
NOSE: Waxy, rich ripe stone fruitiness (apricot, peach, fruit stones), light honey. (90-91p)
TASTE: A certain fruitiness in the arrival. On the mid palate some waxiness, ripe apricot, yellow plum. Very clean and almost sweet fruitiness. Rounded but nice underlying acidity/freshness. (90p)
AFTERTASTE: More fruit but now also a slight fruit stone bitterness to round it off. Fairly long. (88-89p)
OVERALL: A lovely 10 year old Viura from Rioja which is not made in the traditional more oxidised style and now appears almost Burgundian. Even three days after opening it kept up very well with no deteriotation, only further positive development in the open bottle (kept cold).
This is mature now but gives the impression that it will keep and possibly develop for another 2-4 years. Great value for money.
    TOTAL SCORE: 90 points.

  • Solide blanc assez viril mais limite trop boisé pour moi, ce qui m'empêche de le noter davantage. Dommage car c'est très bon et équilibré.

  • Hazelnuts, popcorn, butter on the nose. The palate is buttery popcorn, with mineral acidity on the finish. Viura is essentially an Iberian chardonnay in this versatile offering.

  • Viura in Rioja, Macabeo elsewhere in Spain, we truly enjoy this bracing, slightly acidic, tiny touch of oak luvly from the legendary family Palacios. Light, refreshing, excellent warm white wine from Rioja (yes, not all red in the region) at Catalunya, Hong Kong.

  • Nose: White peach fruit and beeswax.
Taste: Quite rich and creamy body but focused and very well balanced. Waxy, white peach balanced by a nice salinity and fruit stone bitterness. Behind all this, wrapped in the creaminess there's a steely backbone of acidity.
Very nice wine! Will be interesting to revisit this later. Drinking very well now but should also be able to develop for several years.

  • Très beau vin. Nez de pommes vertes et minéral. Belle longueur avec légère note rancio.

  • Complex nose, bright and floral with saline notes, oyster shell and crushed rocks, all on top of rich white peach and apricot fruit. Creamy body yet bright and focused on the palate. As far as fruit, I get white peach, limes and apricots, all of it fresh and bright. Accents of seashells, saline, dried white flowers, all of the flavors are punchy and alive yet creamy and rich. I really enjoy this 100% Viura (which is aged on the lees in old oak barrels for 11 months). A vibrant, long, and memorable bottle.

  • I tasted this with squid tapas and loved it. Chatted with Alvaro Palacios about the wine and shared a bottle and squid, it was a memorable experience. Retasted on 2/15 with the full lineup, and it wowed me again.

  • Steely fresh aromas, almost a touch of oxidisation, sherried character. Returning to the glass later it has a lovely quince jelly note. The steely dry character continues on the palate with notes of chamomile, celery salt and a more creamy vanilla note on the finish. Good freshness but for me a slightly odd ‘off’ character at times which makes me wonder whether this was a good bottle.
