Very similar tasting note to the one dated 8/3/2014. Open and mature notes of darker cherries, licorice, tar, crushed flowers, dried fruits and some tobacco, also some cedar wood. On the palate similar flavor profile, also some menthol. It's medium-full bodied with medium- tannin and medium acidity that still makes it feel fresh. Medium length. A very pretty and fully mature Barolo, it could probably still last for a few years but I don't see it getting any better. A really nice Barolo from this great vintage that has aged beautifully. It doesn't have the complexity or the sheer power of the best Barolos of the vintage but a very good wine in this price range.

As S nickel notes this was part of a double blind tasting of the Seattle group. A more modern Barolo -- nice coffee, cherry, eucalyptus. I tend to prefer the older style to the more modern. This is quite approachable now. I am curious to try this in a few years or have a bottle to last a day or two to see if S Nickel's impressions match mine, as we generally seem to be in agreement on such things. This was ranked first out of ten by the group. It was my fourth.

PnP, with an hour in the glass before tasting. Wow, this is phenomenal!Ripe black fruits, mineral, sweet dark spices and a slight balsamic hint. Incredible concentration and layered, intense sweet black fruit driven palate impression and seamless long finish. It is incredibly youthful yet seamless and perfectly balanced. Perfect now, hope it still holds up for the finish tomorrow.

PnP. Mature and open nose of dried rose petals, dried fruits, dark cherries, tar and cedar wood. On the palate similar flavors, but also some sweet spices. With some more air also some menthol notes emerge. Medium-full bodied with still medium tannin and medium acidity. Good length. It drinks great right now, but there is still quite some tannic structure for a 15 years old Barolo. Nevertheless I will probably drink my last bottle within the next 2-3 years while the fruit is still present. Nice Barolo from this classic and generally slightly underrated vintage.

Zucca: EWG: This wine was more expressive with a hint of rose and with darker fruit. Great nose. I found it slightly tart, but at the same time with a rich, round mouthfeel. Good structure, but slightly fatter than above. Full of dichotomies

EWG Barolo: I meant to hold on to this but when the flight of 99s showed up I thought I should pop it. The wine didn't disappoint but still needs some more time. It had not rounded the corner that the 89 and 97 had turned but it has all the right stuff to do it. This showed a lot of complexity imo.

Decanted for two hours. Elegance is the word that comes to mind in drinking this. Incredible nose, very smooth and rich mouth feel with medium finish. The only downside was this was my last bottle.

VLG - ClayFu In The House (The Vineyard Lunch Gang): We did have some cork issues here. It was actually stuck to the side so we had to break it out. So there was a little cork in each glass. At first this was a little stinky but it quickly sorted out into nice dried flowers and dried red fruit. The palate was very nice. Very packed but the texture and acid gives it great balance. I really like it now but agree its best days are ahead if it.

Lunch At The Office (Jason Hagen's Office): This had a complex changing and moving nose. At the first of every pour a earthy mushroomy funk was present strongly but this would yield to some perfumed flowery notes and add some tarred rocks later on. Rich and dense palate for a Barolo with a bit of funk sticking around. The mid palate evens out with air and the wine gets more classically lean. I think it's best days are ahead of it.

This was a part of a vertical tasting made in Rimini last Monday. I insert it in this year because it was ther best one among : 2004 (just realeased, best AFTER 2010), 2003, 2001, 1999, 1998 Year 1998 was something different, being evolved with oil scent and liquorice tasting (rated 91)
Nice crystallyne garnet red, slightly transparent. Intense, FINE and complex smell, with fruit (cherry and alcohol), Flower (rose), Spices (vanilla), liquorice... Very well balanced and harmonic, with acidity and tannins being tamed but still with "nerves"... Fruity at taste....NICE Incredibly this wine is still evolving and will be probably better in 2/3 years http://www.maurosebaste.it/pagine/ita/recensioni/dicono_01.lasso

Brought to a double-blind tasting, Placed 1st out of 11 bottles. Same notes as previous, but not open long enough to verify my previous 95 rating.

A big bold beautiful wine that is still fiercely tannic. This will be very very special in another ten years!
