Fantastic after a 30-minute decant. Initially dominated by savory notes (black olives, game), then the fruit became more prominent and the wine was better balanced (still notably savory).

Excellent Syrah that will just be getting better over the next several years but you’ll be hard pressed to keep it because it is so seductive now. Dark purple color and the fruit jumps out of the Wine glass. Developing some nice savory flavors of olives and saline. Iper extracted with perfect balance. This is an up and coming major Syrah ramps up. Only 49 cases of this one so hopefully you were lucky to get some. 93 points might be too low of a score.

Knew it would be too young but opened anyway. Big nose, super extracted with lots of layering. Big Wine that is only going to get better with time. 49 cases or 588 bottles for the entire World. Glad I own this. Next bottle is a minimum 12 months longer.

Wonderful perfumed nose of blueberry pie, red raspberries and cardamom. Palate shows some of the heft and verve that these are known for. True cornucopia of cool-toned red/blue fruits. Balance is on point with tannins large structured yet yielding. Acidity perfect and finish true, long and focused on fruits. Complete and pure with tremendous focus and presence all while retaining elegance and class. Not easy to pull off, these seem to have it all dialed in.

2013 Quivet Cellars Syrah Hulda Block Las Madres Vineyard. First of all I would like to thank Yogi8938 my secret santa for this bottle! popped this bottle tonight and gave it around 3 hrs in the decanter, if you are a meat and olive lover this wine is for you! (and I am) The fruit is pure and great balance of acid and tannin, IMHO still has a long life to go but it was delicious now. Loved this bottle!
Had first glass after a 20 minute decant. Still close to cellar temperature. Delicious wine, cherry nose, but of a bite on front and back tongue. Drinking well now.

Dark purple color. Sulphur funk takes a few minutes to dissipate. Spritz on the tip of the tongue. Lots of red fruit--strawberry, plum. Some black pepper and some earthiness mid-palate. Stiff tannin balanced, though, by acid. Pleasant finish.

Had it side by side with the 2013 Myriad Syrah Las Madres. Ink color. Dark fruit, leather and bacon nose although more restrained an the Myriad with a little bit more acidity. Full body, long finish. Great match for BBQ food.

PnP and consumed over 4 hours. Full-bodied, rich, feral and fruit forward, but not OTT. Notes of black cherry, black olive, brine, and spice. Soft sweet tannins, good amount of acidity and a long finish. Among one of the finest Cali Syrahs I've had. (94+)

Given a couple hours air. Pretty tightly wound with angular acidity giving it a rather narrow feel. Very nice aromatics of beef blood, pepper, and spice notes. Palate is finely focused and better with food, but has a nice core of purple fruit. Finishes with a strong pepper and spice note that carries on with a hint of mocha. Chewy tannins in the background until the finish where are more prominent. Needs a few years.

11 months after my first taste. This is rocking. Similar notes to January with the savory notes. Green olive has turned to black olive, still lots meatiness, violets and juicy fruit. Tannins have really settled down and the acidity pulls this through with a long finish. Opened Saturday night, finished Monday. Hard to put down except to repour. Really easy drinking Syrah in a good place right now. Drink sooner than later.

I am impressed at how this has aged. My initial review was flat wrong. Lay this down and at 6 months still some of the smoked meat but the integration and nuance is starting to appear.

This is great stuff. Decanted two hours - probably could've used more. Had a couple of nice cabs open too, but kept going back for another taste of this guy.

Pop and pour, strong nose of strawberry, ham, flowers and sweet cherry and a touch of oak. Palate is extracted, meaty, sour cherry, heavy tannins initially, a touch of alcohol on the finish with very good length. It's really young now so it really should be held for 2-3 years.

This wine has a lot going on- big intense fruit and spice, but not overly syrupy. Lots of game on the nose. Very dark and thick. Finish goes on forever revealing tobacco, leather smoke. Good tannins and acidity, although they will probably mellow out with time. Really impressed with this wine.

Dark with ruby edges. Nose of cool blue fruits, lavender and Kirsch Royal. Intense entry on palate, this attacks the taste-buds with a full out war. This has many layers of texture, each on is more intricate than the one below it. Balance is impeccable. This shows freshness, verve and elegance. Pretty white flowers and a tiny note of white pepper. Tannins are complicated but welcoming; acidity spot-on. This wine is a real treat; it completes the long line-up of each vintage before it and still seems to out-do itself. The finish remains alive and vibrant after a bunch of minutes.' Wow' sums it up just about right. I score this high and believe me, it is worthy.

Double decanted, then popped cork back in for travel purposes. Re-opened 4 hours later and let breathe for 30 minutes. Had side-by-side with the 2013 Kenefick syrah from Quivet.
This is more of the "prototype" big, bad gamey syrah vs. the Kenefick, which had more fruit. This needed more air, and was consumed over several hours. The Kenefick disappeared quicker. Big, sexy nose of game meats, petrol and tar. Bit of anise. Heavier on the palate and a long finish. This really grabbed my attention before dinner, but is not a terribly food friendly wine (and needed some more air), so largely consumed after dinner. It requires your full attention.

Some '13 Mike Smith Pinot and Syrah: Intoxicating nose of violets, roasted meat, garrigue, green olive. Red/blue fruited palate, lovely texture, juicy, toasty oak. Chalky, prominent tannins. Fresh and lively.

Dynamite. The crucial thing is it takes DAYS to open up. The last glass on day three was all the things I could want.

Came in #2 out of 4 in our little tasting.
Also had 2013 Myriad Las Madres, Apsara Las Madres and Sonkin
Similar in profile to the Myriad, just a tick less integrated on the finish. In a great place for drinking after about 4 hours of air time.

Popped along with a 2013 Quivet Kenefick and a 2013 Myriad Las Madres.
This was somewhere in between - not as deep and gamey as the Myriad, and not as round and open as the Kenefick.
All very good wines, and all could have used more air. But great with the spread of food we had going (crawfish boil; beef tenderloin; gumbo).
