Typicity of region on display here, all dense and black-fruited, almost ribena concentration with plums, cedar, blackberry and something vaguely herbal and sorta ashy/smoky in the background. Sweet fruit to it, something sort of porty and liquorice like creeping in, showing some development. Chewy palate, feels dense but with a strong tartness to the fruit. Faint sandy tannins. Not really how I like my Pinot but I appreciate that this is how it goes in Otago. Not sure how much more this has in the tank, the fruit profile is starting to dry out and with time I feel it will lean more into that anonymous old dry red zone. A little hot on the finish too.

A bit syrupy yet at the same time burnt wood at first blush. Not sure I'm chasing the price point but a solid vineyard effort. The nose is filled w varietal notes but there's zero relationship w burgundy.

Nose is closed, with faint notes of rhubarb, oak, and violet. Palate is similarly dull and closed, with faint flavours of raspberry and chocolatey oak. The mouthfeel is characterised by sharp, slightly harsh acidity. What flavour there is is quite pleasant, so there could be some real quality to this wine, but it's not revealing it at the moment.

Dull violet. Grape cough syrup and cast iron on the nose. Young, tight, and needs time. Has a taste element that will evolve into umami. Dark purple sweet grape notes.

A friend of mine reached out to me about this, and when I saw that Ted Lemon was involved, I had to give this a try as well. Definitely fits the profile of what I expected. Bright and wide open nose of spices, as well as lavender and roses. The palate is almost Chambolle-esque in it's grace and purity, and solid core of red fruits, and then leads to a long finish of dusty tannins. This is really exceptional Pinot. Well done!

Very young and fresh nose with datrk and red fruit, herbal notes and some spice. Sweet and rich mouth, somewhat heavier vs the AtaRangi, with medium+ tannins and balancing acidity. Long and flavourfull but still quite young.

Dark cherry, raspberry, sweet spices, anise and pronounced fennel on the nose. Less showy and swet than the 2011 and closer to what I expect from a high quality p.n. Medium-bodied, balanced and long. Will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring.

Check-up on Australia with Tim Wildman, MW (Adelaide/Barossa): We put this in as a pirate to compare the Aussie Pinot. Medium purple, very vibrant color, almost shiny. Nose of darker fruit with some toasty notes as well. On the palate this is quite light and aromatically not as long as I hoped for from the color and nose.

Mid-garnet; varietal nose; black cherries; light wood; mid-body; good acids; balanced fruit; good PN flavor on the finish; a touch hot.

Waterford Wine Co. Biodynamic Festival (Tamarack Waldorf School, Milwaukee, WI): brief tasting note. nose of baking spice. med+ acid, there is great concentration here and flavors of bright red crunchy cherries. definitely needed some further air to resolve itself, but a very good wine.

Cellarhand Trade Day 2015 (Regent Theatre, Plaza Ballroom, Collins Street, Melbourne): Quite dense, very deep colour for pinot and it follows through on the palate. A nice array of dark cherry, bramble fruit, a little oak and slight funk to it. Needs to settle down some.
