This is a blackberry festival in a glass. Menthol, lime, cola, and blackberry on the nose. Velvet, silk, smooth licorice, and blackberry on the palate. Finishes with a bold expression of chalk. Amazing structure and balance in the wine! Pure love! Decanted for 75 min.

My retailer got a wholesale closeout offer. I haven’t seen Domaine Pierre Gelin wines for awhile but the price was excellent and the CT ratings were in the middle 90s, so bought a case. Expressive youthful nose displaying perfectly ripe pure black fruit, crushed black berry, a hint of light strawberry jam, sweet spices, rose, a hint of espresso bean and limestone. Very polished, harmonious and detailed palate, very finely layered pure black fruit, silky and airy, perfect amount of acidity, good mineral presence and a long seamless pure black fruit and clove driven finish. Definitely a top grand crus. It will need another decade or two to reach the youthful peak. I have no doubt that this will be a great Beze, love to taste next to the Rousseau version.

In a large tasting this stopped the record; a clear stand out for its class and refinement. I wish I could have spent more time with this; small black and blue berries, cinnamon, leather, mineral, wildflowers. Just lovely and quite long. Youthful but not closed; I'm not sure it ever will shut down.

Gordon's Luxe Tasting (Gordon's Wines - Waltham, MA): Nose: Massive blackberry, cherry Palate: Layered and full of Cherry, Blackberry, minerality, clove and allspice. Sweet fruit is built around earthy spicy nuance on this one. Seamless palate with significant underlying tannin. Finish: Complex with more spice, red/black fruit and floral notes.
This has it all, and will require significant cellar time.

2015 New York Wine Experience Trip; 10/19/2015-10/27/2015 (New York City, NY): Rich and lush, this medium-to-deep ruby wine is packed with black and red fruit, accented by cocoa, coriander, clove and candied red apple. Medium-to-full-bodied, freshly acidic, seamlessly alcoholic and with deceivingly big tannins, it gains depth and complexity in the middle. The finish is long and carries some tannic grip. This sturdy Pinot is of stellar quality, but patience will be necessary. Drink 2020-2032.

Red fruited, medium acid, low-med tannin, bit of gunflint. Balanced and tasty, but not quite the power I'd hoped for in a GC.
