Captivating nose of black fruit, thyme, lavender and a hint of cedar.
Silky and serene on the palate, with a deep and balanced juice. The wine is rich yet delicate, spherical and textured at the same time. There is a lot of harmony with this lavender and thyme which dominate, on a bed of black fruits and tobacco in the second half of the mouth. The wine is really tasty, it is sapid and structured. Beautiful saline finish on a powdery length.
An excellent Brunello.

At a private dinner Sandy Bay, Tasmania. This wine opened absolutely consistently with a deep yet clear cherry red colour and an striking nose of dark cherry, redcurrant and cedar with touches of fine tobacco, lavender, rose and thyme. The palate shows rich and spherical fruit balanced by a savoury field of herbs and minerals leading into a long and fine tannin finish. This remains a distinctive wine of character and texture that usually stands out in any setting. Just delicious yet serious.

A most divine wine: dark, powerful, silky. Notably, this profound conclusion was attained 3 days after opening. While admittedly the initial expression was still impressive on day 1, a higher level of polished complexity on day was 3 was an exceptional surprise and I luckily had nearly half a bottle left to further confirm my assertions. Let this baby sleep another few years and you will be handsomely rewarded.

At Enoteca 1889, Woolloongabba. This lovely wine from my cellar opened with a deep yet clear cherry red colour and an immediate nose of dark cherry, redcurrant and cedar with touches of fine tobacco, lavender, rose and thyme. The palate shows rich and spherical fruit balanced by a savoury field of herbs and minerals leading into a long and fine tannin finish. The texture and balance of this wine are superb and really do stand out in this top notch Brunello.

Opened the bottle at 8:00 am and poured first glass at 4:30. Black as night and the nose is giving almost nothing. A faint hint of red berries and nothing else. Tannins attack the pallet before you get deep cherries mixed with white pepper. Wow it calms down in just a few minutes. The nose picks up brown sugar notes and on the pallet it shows some burnt rubber and sour cherry. I have put the rest of the bottle into a decanter for dinner in two hours. This just get better and better. This is one monster of a wine that you can drink now but it would be a shame as this has an amazing future. I would give my next bottle 4-6 years and I’m sure it will go for 30+ years. Much more concentrated that the normal and I don’t have enough experience with Brunello reservas to say whether this is good or bad. All I can say that it’s a monster of a wine. I think that collector 1885 nails it. This wine is much denser that the normale but not necessarily better. Very sweet now. Hmmm.

The nose was dark with balsamic-inflected florals, savory herbs, cedar shavings and dried black cherry. On the palate, I found silky textures with mineral-encased crunchy cherry, sweet herbs and zesty acids, as tannin seemed to mount with each passing sip. The long finish was structured, showing medicinal cherry, balsamic spice, and fine gripping tannin which saturated the senses. The 2010 Riserva is a beast today, yet it should be amazing over the coming decade or more.

Tasted at 2017 Wine Group Dinner #1. Deep cherry colour. This wine had a terrific nose of dark cherry, redcurrant and cedar with touches of lavender, rose and thyme. The palate backed up with lovely spherical fruit balanced by a smokey, field of herbs and fine tannin finish. The standout feature was a lovely light on its feet character despite all the flavour and mouthfeel. Terrific.

A Brunello day (Singapore): A matter of taste in Singapore. Accessible and round, this had just a tick more depth than the 2011 Annata next to it, medium (-) tannins, medium + length. Great wine but did not see the WA99 here.

Brunello di Montalcino 2010 - 30 top names of the vintage (Singapore): Tasted during the WA tasting event "a matter of taste". Dark garnet. Intense nose of dark fruit, spices, clay. This is denser and riper than the normal 2010 but I don't think it is better. My view is that many Brunello Riservas of the top producers are not better than their normal Brunello because with Sangiovese denser is not necessarily better. Nevertheless, very nice Brunello but my money goes to the normal Brunello 2010. 95-96

2010 Brunello Riserva Bacchanalia (Stewart's house): On the nose: sweet balsamic notes and orange peel; perhaps a touch riper than the Siro Pacenti PS. Very dense at first, though thinned out a bit quickly. Seemed to show lower acid than the PS as well.

This is showing very well young. Lots of strawberry, rich and opulent with a great back-end, but currently slightly drying on the herb finish. I am expecting this traditionally made Brunello to shut down soon. Store this away until 2025+. Great potential.

Dark and brooding yet full of potential, the 2010 Riserva opened up with a display of ripe strawberry, black cherry, and plum, along with floral perfumes and a hint of pepper. On the palate, it was dense, monolithic and hard to judge, yet there was a core of dark red fruit which seemed determined to one day explode. It finished on dried berries, leather and fine tannin. This is in need of time in the cellar, yet it should one day emerge as something truly special.
