Largely gone and compared to many other 2001 Gigs I’ve opened recently, this is a disappointment. Dull, flat fruit, brown notes, sweet, dusty fruit. Not very expressive. Too bad, should have opened this a decade ago I think.

past its peak, for sure. if you have any, drink it now! a rough, dirt-filled, country wine...we've enjoyed this for the past few years, but it's time to move on

The last of over two cases of this, bought at closeout, and while there was more than the usual bottle variation, overall it was one of the best purchases in recorded history; this bottle was a fitting conclusion, seamless, well-structured, absolutely at its peak; drained in minutes among a slough of bottles at the table

Aroma of cherries. A touch of glycirine initially on the palate, lighter than I expected, with nice touch of acidity and minerality. Cherries and cranberries. Nice finish. Very good wine.

This wine is at it's perfect drinking moment, with ripe cassis and raspberry aromas, glove leather, wet stones and a touch of port. Ripe and smooth on the palate, with a soft and juicy midpalate, a dark chocolate vibe, and a lingering finish. Not the most complex wine, but very complete and fine. Drink now.

Based on this bottle, the wine is still drinking quite well; full, rich, rough, textured wine that stands up to hearty fare; not elegant, but lots of drinking pleasure

This wine continues to be an entertaining adventure; two cases at $4 on closeout two years ago, and every bottle seems to be different. This one had a hot and an awkward nose, but it was graceful on the palate. Fully ready. A steal.

Ripe and extracted; seems to be a fair amount of bottle variation due to when imported -- which batch and where it was stored; probably time to drink these

This wine is at a perfect drinking plateau. Lush aromas of ripe berry, toast, smoke and mineral, with a gorgeous midpalate and lively acidity. Long juicy finish. Just delightful.

Terrific wine with hearty fare; at $4 (discount blow-out), this is off-the-charts QPR; fine structure, balanced, in sync. with grip and fruit and tons of brambly flavor; needs food; ready-to-drink but with time left

Drinking perfectly right now, but even after a day open the wine was unchanged, still bright, velvety and loaded with minerality and fruit. I think it will continue to hold for several more years.

Absolutely splendid, with ripe raspberry, black fruits, nice minerality, juicy midpalate and a long finish. At its perfect drinking moment. Will probably hold for another year or two, but definitely ready to go.

Very nice balance, delicous after taste (wished it would have lasted longer) of black licorice and dark cherry. Very appropriate with meats. Great if you're paying under $20.

One of the most delicious Gigondas I've ever had. Very complex nose of ripe red berries, toast, violets and earth. Just a complete package, with a wonderful dry yet ripe flavor profile and long finish.

You could smell the cherries opening the bottle. Nice and dark in the glass. The wine was extremely smooth but could still go 5-7 years IMHO before it requires drinking. Very typical southern rhone smells and because the 01 vintage is more structured than '98 or '99 a little decanting is in order if you drink tonight. Great value based on where CNP pricing is.
10/7/06 had a second bottle with desert cheeses. No decanting but the wine showed very well and the bottle dissapeared very quickly. Great Rhone value and I will be looking for more at this price.

Still holding up very well. Maybe a slight drying on the finish, but this may only be bottle variation.

Still excellent but just starting to fade a bit--the fruit is becoming more ethereal and there's a developing hole in the midpalate. Drink very soon.
