DP 64, 66, 71 and Oeno 66: A gorgeous quartet of DP. Started of with 64 and 66 originals. Both were good, but the 66 was fantastic. Interestingly, this parcel of 66 has shown very golden and mature looking, but has drunk insanely well. The 66 Oeno is a terrific champagne, but in the company of these originals it was hard for it to shine. However it really did open up, and is among my favorite Oeno's. Our final DP was a 71 original, and this was simply smoking. The best of the night, and the best 71 I've ever had.

Five Oeno's. The 90 Rose Oeno was our reception wine, and while young, it drank well. I've liked this wine every time I've had it, and its going to be great over time. The 69 Oeno showed very good, and time in the glass was well rewarded. Have had better bottles, but this was terrific. The 66 Oeno was the star in this setting, and most of the table liked it best. The 73 Oeno has been one of my favorites of late. This bottle showed excellent straight out of the bottle, but for me it lost a little in the glass over the hour plus we drank them. The 70 Oeno was good. For most of us it was our first crack at this wine, and was fun to drink straight off the boat. Looking forward to drinking a few of these over the next year and seeing how they show.

Dom Pérignon Masterclass with Richard Geoffroy at Decanter Fine Wine Experience (Landmark Hotel, London): Appearance: bright to golden yellow. Nose: noticeably smokey and toasted notes, coffee, mocha, cocoa powder, wood, yellow fruit in the background. Very nuanced and most developed nose of all wines. The “wood” component in the nose here refers to old dry wood, more or less untreated, such as boards from an abandoned forest cottage or dried driftwood, i.e., not really the aromas of toasted oak barrels. Palate: good concentration, yellow fruit, citrus, mineral, noticeably spicy, tannic feeling with wood, some cocoa powder. Spicy aftertaste with some mineral. Overall impression: wonderful development, fully mature. 94 p.

Dom Perignon Masterclass, with Richard Geoffroy (Decanter FWE, The Landmark hotel, London): From Magnum and one needs to adjust from the slower aging caused by the Magnum effect according to RG. Among the very few magnums around and not commercially released in this format. Rich golden colour, shows its age but still maintains its luminous character of course! Intense on the nose, rich, yeasty, creamy notes with hints of floral, orange blossom. On the palate it is not a 46yr old wine and can rival the 2000 DP in freshness. Amazing longevity. Deep wine, layered and rich, full on complex. Mineral angle to it and so precise in its flavour. 97 (we believe this was disgorged in 2007)

Black label. This was crushing it, the real deal, deep ocean and lumber all wrapped up in one. Smoky, creamy and rich. Touches of honey, almonds, hazelnuts, coffee and more. This is a bottle for all of you DP haters out there. Find one, buy one, drink one and you'll be a convert -guaranteed. Monumental plus.

Some Champagnes and a few reds (Columbus, OH): Recent disgorgement. Total coffee and mocha on the nose. Dark fruits and a wonderful richness. Balancing fine mousse left. Some liqueur-like qualities. Really good.

Didn't meet the high expectations I had. Drank it all but not really a QPR in my book. Maybe a bad bottle.

Dom Pérignon - A Retrospective Tasting with Chef de Cave Richard Geoffroy (The Inn at Spanish Bay, Pebble Beach): Chanterelle Mushrooms, honey and hazelnuts. Decadent and still climbing. Amazingly, this is still fresh with a silky textured palate which is fine and luxurious. With air coffee characteristics emerge. Great!
