As usual, this is too much richness and oak when taken alone but sipped in between bites of chicken piccata with a buttery, lemon-caper sauce and fried potatoes with asparagus, it is hard to imagine a better wine & food match. Solo this is like 80 points but in the context of this dinner it's 10-15 points higher.

This was definitely a better and more interesting bottle than my last two....golden yellow hue, a nose of vanilla cream and crisp golden apple and pear. The palate is dominated by warm tropical fruits, more mango than pineapple. Some butter cream in texture but not overwhelming and a great accompaniment to cacce peppe...My daughter loved this wine. Drink up.

With scallops, asparagus, rice. Yellow, yellow/gold, clear and brilliant. Honey, butter, citrus nose. Smooth, with nice mouth-watering acid, long finish. It grew on the palate over time (air effect I guess), the smoothness and richness improved. Too bad this was our last bottle.

Popped this with black truffle risotto the day after arriving back from a wine trip to Burgundy. This wine is unlike any white burgundy I had while I was there. This is much more tropical in style and structure due to its California coast terroir. Still has some sharp edges for a 6 y/o Cali chard. Bought this wine at a Ridge tasting in Atlanta 2 years ago. I think I liked it 2 years younger. Not sure where this wine is going but I'll be sure to let you know with my remaining two bottles.

Right from the start the wine offers butterscotch, wet stone, yellow plums, stems, vanillia and peach on the nose.
On the palate it is rich, medium bodied with cool fruit and stony minerals. Not your typical california chardonnay. Definitely feel the whole cluster here with that tannic acid. A tad too high alcohol for me. Feels heady. The oak don't bother me at all though.

With scallops, roast green beans, salad. Look: beautiful yellow/gold, almost sparkling. Sniff: Jane gets nice citrus (lemon), with pineapple and a light touch of honey sneaking in. Nutty nose with notes of macademia, oysters, lemon, pineapple. Some nuttiness up front, with a full oily texture that makes it a rich food pairing. Balanced, with a tropical pineapple finish. I like this, but I think I would like it more in ten years.

Bright light to medium yellow color, with a nose that is smokey, slightly reduced (match strike scent) and with vanilla, lemon and white peach. Palate is honied and rich with a viscous texture that exhibits the expected lemon curd, grilled peach and bright acidity. This should last quite a long time in a proper cellar and definitely is better if decanted to give it some air to eliminate the sulfur from the nose.

I'm not sure what happened with this wine. It had a funky taste to it. The nose was fine, but it was nowhere near the previous bottle that I had. Both bottles were purchased directly from the winery at the same time. Rather than rate it, I'll call this one flawed. That being said, my ten person wine dinner had a few who liked it and 1 called it her favorite. Galloni's review said it had " A hint of reduction typical of the Ridge Chardonnays".....Is this what he means by reduction? I don't know.

Palate, green melon/cantaloupe, green apple, a touch of oak, crisp acidity, mineral, wife said oyster like minerality! Way too young. A touch of bitterness at the end, i guess as a result of the whole cluster component. Some wrapped tannins on the back gums. This will be great in a few years.

This was an interesting bottle. We wanted to check on this, knowing it's years too young. We were surprised by the extremely dominant oak, especially on the finish. After 2 hours in a decanter at room temp though, it improved. It'll be interesting to watch this evolve and try again in 2 or so years. Hoping for some integration and softening. It was 87 before, but ~89-90 after being out a while, so 88 overall.

Ridge tasting + dinner at Yew Restaurant. 10 wines, 5 flights. Only kept notes for the 1st flight (whites) as they were the most memorable. Lovely wine, tasty tropical fruits, stone, noticeable oak profile, slight minerals towards the short finish. Finish was disappointing but its young so could use some age (or longer decant). The pair for estate chard was of course the 2013 Monte Bello Chardonnay (which really is unfair comparison because it was so good).
