PnP. Probably needed a short decant. Dark red color. Very tannic wine that eventually smooths out. Big cherry flavors with medicinal tones. Medium finish.

Very deep purple red colour with purple edge. Classy nose of black current liqueur with vanilla and cinnamon back ground. Initially the palate was closed and quite tannic but after 48 hours the full, black cherry and damson flavours shone through accompanied by lovely vanilla tones, velvety tannins with excellent acidic balance. Great wine with long life ahead.

Dark ruby color. Really vibrant nose with mostly red fruit leaping from the glass. Raspberry, ripe plum, some floral notes, a bit of fresh mint. Very fresh and pure with a touch of pyrazine and with no overt oak to be found. Juicy and almost light on the palate but with cabernet structure. No real signs of being a 10 year old wine. Lots of room to develop still but plenty delicious right now. Great bottle of wine.

Deep red, beautiful Cabernet nose. Dark wild raspberries, plum, blackberries, Madagascar vanilla, cocoa. Beautiful texture, delicate and fruit shows great complexity. Not an owerpowering Napa cab, every balanced and long finish with some herbal notes. Drinks perfect now

Oh so civilized, with graphite playing with understated dark berry fruit on the palate and a higher toned/red currant nose offset with a mild soil note. Everything in its right place? I suppose, but I agree with the previous post that I'd prefer the volume turned up a notch or two, add some fruit presence without more sweetness or more oak. Decanted and at its best after an hour or two. Drink now-2025.

This was the best bottle of the 3 I’ve tried over the years. More integrated and harmonious, but atypical in a mostly good way from typical California Cabs. Dark red and purple but fruit profile is more red cherry and even strawberry. Nose is more floral. Mid palate is restrained, oak well integrated. 13.2%. I like it but I think it to turn the volume up just an increment or two.

Yet another example that Cabernet doesn't have to be high in alcohol, dripping in oak and over extracted to be good.
Nice plummy mixed cherry fruit stones and all, with gravelly dirt road, sage, cold diner coffee, black pepper with hints of cigarette tobacco and green pepper on both the nose and in the mouth. Good acid and powdery tannin give nice structure to this middle wight wine.
Very nice wine but I will wait at least a year to open another.

Lilting aromas of blackcurrant, redwood forest floor, white pepper, with a rich mahogany overtone. Deep dry fruit on the palate with passionate focus and drive moving into a rich salty sweet finish. Excellent with hot pan fried ribeye and buttery broccoli.

Similar to previous note, but didn't show as well following the 2008 Neal Cab, hence the lower score. I also got a lot more strawberry than previous bottles.

What a different kind of wine. Very tannic from start to finish. Shows you how this one still, despite an hour and a half of air, really blocked some of the true character of this wine from showing. Cork popped to a darker stain than I had imagined it would be. Nose of blackberry and herb. Definitely showed youth. The finish of this wine was rather tannic. Young, oak barrel notes and blackberry throughout. The tannins on this wine sort of disjointed this bottle of wine. Would have done much better with a Brie cheese or cheese spread which probably would have opened this bottle quite a bit wider. Not ready to rate just yet. Still very tannic, with the majority of life left ahead of it. I believe that this one will be a 93-94 at peak maturity....in about 5 years.

30 minute decant, but it could definitely use much more, so consider that with what I'm about to write. Nose is very vibrant with lots of cherry. More oak than I was expecting at first taste, but it does mellow out with nice fruit. Surprised it was only 13.2% OH, as it felt much higher. Medium finish. I'm biased cause I love Matthiasson wines, but this went nicely with the Pot Roast dinner made by the Gautier's!! Thank you!!

Birthday wine to kickoff the last year of my 30s! I'm going to say something isn't quite right. Could be a bad bottle, could use a long decant, or could be too young. Nose doesn't really sing Cab. Seems much much higher than 13.2% OH and the finish is rough, tart, and short. Usually one of my favorites, but something is just off tonight.

I'll be honest, I usually absolutely love this wine but tonight something was off. Maybe it isn't good following rose, maybe it doesn't pair well with cheese, or maybe it isn't good with Italian food. Was very acidic, lacked structure and fruit, and just didn't live up to expectations. Guess we all can have an off night, even wine!

Dark red / purple color. Pop and pour, it was quite restrained and not as integrated as I like; much better on day 2. Not a Napa fruit bomb style of cab, and most tasting blind would have a hard time identifying this as a Napa cab. It also does not taste Old World to me (e.g., no earthiness). I found that red cherry fruits predominated. I will wait quite a few years (2019?) before opening my last bottle to see if secondary characteristics give the wine more complexity. At a minimum, I'd recommend a long decant.

Locked up tonight, and definitely glad I have another. This wine has excellent fruit structure up front. The nose was blackberry and a hint of mint and vanilla. The entry of this wine is a little heated, but after an hour it had softened up quite a bit. The fruit structure on this one is more like a fig and black licorice at the moment, and within the next 3-4 years I expect this one to develop a lot more in that direction. Finished with a lot of tannin. The drinking window on this one is listed as 2016-2026. I definitely don't disagree with that, but I definitely agree that this one is going to be better in a few years. Probably jumped the gun on this one tonight, but it was just staring me down everytime I opened up the wine fridge for a good, solid 3-4 weeks! :) You can drink now with 1-2 hours of decanting time, but I would probably choose to wait 1-2 years before uncorking the next one.

PnP. Restrained, low alcohol cab which is not what I normally drink. With air, red fruit (predominately cherry) emerges. Nice finish with acidity and dusty tannins. My gut says this would be better with time or decant.

Nice balance between food friendly and luxurious. Bright red fruit, baking spices, stoney minerals, and black cherry. Plenty of palate restricting tannins that need some serious time to workout (overnight did not do the trick).

A good cabernet that would undoubtedly be a "great" cabernet with a bit more length. Otherwise, nice bright and balanced red and black fruit on entry, with that "twang" that tells you its cab, followed by a perfumed, mouth-watering palate - but falls a bit short on the palate.
When a new bottle was tried a week later, a similar tasting note, but with slightly plusher/darker fruits up front.

Classic smell of black currants - all in all not that expressive, but follows with flowers and a touch of spice including vanilla. Nice, fresh and very juicy in the mouth. Airy and elegant for a cabernet, and a style I like a lot. If only they were all made like this.

I appreciate wines with restraint. This Cabernet is nothing special. Over a 3 hour dinner with steak and a rich dessert, this wine got credit for not being a 'heavy cab' but did not show nearly half the personality of half of its $60 price tag. Lacks the fruit of other 2012 cabs.

Delicious Napa Cab that impresses most for it's balance of acidity, ripe dark and red fruit and silky finish. I imagine this will be one of those cabs that is in its prime 8-10 years from the vintage. For the price, this is a superb napa cabernet for the crowd that enjoys old world style but likes to support the good ole US of A.

I personally find this wine to be a bit boring. It's definitely on the lighter side for a napa cab, and the fruit is more classic in style. Lots of sour cherry on the finish, high acidity, slightly drying tannins. I would expect this to improve with a few years in the bottle, but right now I'm not a big fan.

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Matthiasson!!! This wine is insane, if you can find a better 2012 cab I'd love to see it because quite frankly it probably doesn't exist! Bold, earthy, hints of tobacco and deep cherry; with a solid finish that will get better with age. Absolutely in love with it!!!!
