For me the best Marguet I've ever had. Elegant with some lemon fruits, a lot of energy and not so "boring" as usually. Many years ahaed. We had later selosse 2009. It doesn't have to hide behind this giant. Getting better and better with air. 95-96

  • Showing beautifully. This balances deep mineral cut with powerful fruit and an airy luminescence. À point to my taste and a joy to drink.

  • Charleston IV - Return of the Collectible; 9/27/2018-9/30/2018 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): Has aged nicely. Some good depth and complexity even if it is still on the younger side (we have a hard time waiting to drink our bubbles). This was nice.

  • Acker Auction - June 2018 (Laduree NYC W Broadway): A wine that tastes a lot like the name. It pours pretty tight and doesn't give much at first, but with some time it opens up and mostly comes across as a bit chalky with some mineral notes. More time and then it's a touch of herbal as well. Interesting and fun, but needs time.

  • A Civilised, Tolerable Thursday? (Restaurante Cuenllas - Madrid): Until the last drop. Full evolution of rusty nuances does not seem to have an end in the last drinks. Cornucopia with oxidised aromas of marzipan, violets, fine pastries or toast. Vinous aftertaste with a soft bubble that pushes a balanced acidity. Ready to be drunk and enjoyed right now

  • A step up from the Shaman; there's a ripe red fruited core here as the Pinot flavours really come through, and layers of pastry dough, vanilla cream, and chalky accents around the core of fruit. It's a big wine but very well balanced with a powerful spine of acidity beneath, finishing long.

  • Apperitiving by Madrid; 12/19/2016-12/20/2016 (RVGDLN Y Cuenllas): By the glass.
On the nose, delicious and elegant metallic aromas, also lemon rind and truffle and champignon
On the mouth too much carbonic for my taste but still presents elegant notes. Highly recommended.

En nariz deliciosos y elegantes aromas metálicos, a corteza de limón y a trufa y champiñón
En boca demasiado carbónica pero aún así presenta notas elegante. Altamente recomendable.

  • A rather natural take on Ambonnay Grand Cru single vineyard Champagne, the second release ever of this wine after the vintage 2008. 45-50 yo vines of Chardonnay (62%) and Pinot Noir (38%). Fermented in old barriques, bottled in July 2010. No dosage, minimal sulfites.

Intense yellow-green nose. Incredibly rich, complex and expressive nose with very toasty and slightly oxidative aromas of roasted nuts, baked apples, ripe citrus fruits and toasty autolysis. Really attractive and captivating aromas, honestly. Light-bodied, bone-dry and linear on the palate with bracing acidity and complex, attractive flavors of roasted walnuts, pronounced chalky minerality, toasty autolysis, some creamy notes, a little bit of bright citrus fruits and a hint of brioche. Despite the toasty and even slightly oxidative notes, the wine is all about elegance, freshness and laser-like precision. The dry aftertaste is more about chalky and stony minerality, pithy citrus fruits, freshly picked green apples and piercing acidity than about autolysis, as there are only very light nutty and bready notes in the bright and acid-driven finish.

All in all, this is a tremendously impressive and attractive Champagne that is not just about brooding, heavy-set character and oxidative notes, but also about tremendous acidity, prominent minerality and stunning balance. Although really lovely right now, I have high hopes for the cellaring potential of this wine - I can imagine it will hit its peak probably 8-10 years after the vintage and then keep for some more. Utterly smashing stuff. Probably need to get more.
