2014 Château Malescot St. Exupéry

  • Decanted 90 minutes. Took to Florida for our trip. Drank alongside an 05 Haut Bailly, 15 Dominio de Aguila Reserva Ribera del Duero and Mayback Cab. Fruit is still too young for my taste but was far overshadowed by the 05 Haut Bailly. For sure Zbirdeaux with typical nose. Modern Bordeaux but all are now it seems. Need to leave remaining bottles for several years. Great QPR though,

  • PnP and drank over 90 mins. Lovely fruit and nice secondary flavors, seems like it will improve in coming years. Saved some for following evening and was not as excited.

  • A precious fruit laden nose, very precise dark fruit, cassis, blackberry, plum, tobacco, chocolate and cedar. The palate very similar, with cassis/black currant being the most dominant fruit. Also some chocolate here, vanilla, medium tannins, medium acidity. Overall subtle and well integrated oak. Had a 2015 Chevalier yesterday and I like this better. Still youthful, but already in the early drinking window. Excellent, especially the fruit. The more Margaux I drink the more I realize that I am a big fan of the appellation. 94-95

  • Disappointing for the price. Lacked complexity in my opinion.

  • Delving into the nuances of the 2014 vintage in Margaux, Château Malescot St. Exupéry presents itself as a unique expression of the climatic challenges faced that year. The 2014 conditions demanded meticulous vineyard care, and this Bordeaux blend reflects both the distinctiveness of the vintage and the artisanal touch of the estate.

With a rich garnet pour, this wine entices with a medley of aromas—blackcurrant, black cherry, and delicate notes of cedar and violets. The nose mirrors the cooler vintage, exhibiting a measured elegance that prioritizes aromatic finesse over extravagant opulence.

On the palate, Malescot St. Exupéry 2014 unfolds a mosaic of flavors—dark berries, subtle plum nuances, and a touch of graphite. Refined tannins contribute to the wine's structure without overshadowing its fruit, showcasing a poised equilibrium indicative of thoughtful cellar decisions.

A notable trait lies in the wine's potential for maturation. While currently delightful, the structural elements and lively acidity suggest a promising evolution over the next 7-10 years. This bottle beckons patience, promising added layers of complexity as time weaves its influence.

In essence, Château Malescot St. Exupéry 2014 unveils a chapter in Margaux's 2014 vintage, epitomizing the estate's dedication to crafting wines of finesse and enduring allure. An appealing choice for those who savor the Bordeaux artistry and relish the anticipation of a wine unfurling its full character

  • Well integrated tannins. I live in Washington so most of what I drink is very fruit forward which profiles differently than French wines. Definitely a wine that adds rather than dominates food pairing

  • A little reticent on the nose upon opening but smells of Bordeaux. As it warms it opens up with black cherry, graphite, floral, and tobacco. Still quite young. Tart cherry and tobacco with firm tannins. Definitely benefitted accompanying a ribeye steak. This can easily hold for another 5+years. I agree with Delund's assessment about the finish. Very stony and short. I think I prefer the same vintage of Pape Clement.

  • 90 minute decant, 60 F. Still a rich ruby color with very fine sediment. Red fruits, floral notes, smoke, cedar and a touch of acetone on the nose. Silky tannins, integrated alcohol and acidity, slightly chunky oak. Lush, full-bodied Margaux. Lovely blackberry and black currant fruit, sweet tobacco and a hint of earthy pine-forest floor. Disappointed by the very short clean drying finish. No real sign of tertiary notes yet. This may be just emerging from a dumb phase, should improve over the next 3-5 years.

  • I agree with others that this classic Margaux - floral on nose and a bit feminine with silky tannins. Cassis and cherries with a touch of cedar but little oak. Maybe will gain some more tertiary depth in a few years? A bit thin on finish

  • Decanted two hours and drank over another hour. Tried after one hour…too tight. After two hours the wine started to open up. Fruit is still too young for my taste. Wine is excellent with lots of structure & complexity. Full mouth feel. Black fruits dominate evidenced by the dark color. Lots of flavor layers. Will let my remaining bottles rest at least another year.

  • Medium ruby. Tasting this for the first time in about ten months, two bottles opened tonight were more expressive and engaging than they were at the end of last summer. On the nose this is forward and almost feminine, offering quite pretty aromas of ripe blackberry, lush black cherry and cassis that are harmonized by savory notes of grilled rosemary, smoke, topsoil and oak spice. On the palate this is medium to full bodied with medium+ acidity, tight and chewy but ripe tannins and a juicy, but not soft or seamless texture. The flavors here seem a little muddled compared to the precision found on the nose, but that is a small critique; this is very good and surely has room to grow.

  • Very enjoyable, redcurrant and blackcurrants, raspberry, herbs and forest spices. Balanced character from aromas through the finish. This is definitely ready to drink, even as a pop-and-pour, though a brief decant still helps. Drink in the next 10 years.

  • Splash decant and followed over two hours, paired with hanger steak. Nose started out muted. Opened to dark red cherries, leather mouthfeel was thin with a bite. Acidity? Alcohol? On the palate this was richer than the mouthfeel would’ve suggested and very balanced.

  • Such a consistently nice BDX, with some air time (double decanted, followed over two nights) this really opens up with lots of gravel, ash, herb and darker red fruits. Classic nose, quite balanced oak, alcohol, and acidity. Always enjoyable. Was a little thinner on night two, and best after just being open for a few hours honestly, so I wonder if this will be a long ager? In a nice drinking window now. Every 2014 I've had has been so classic and tasty, I wish I had loaded up on more from that vintage, which in my opinion overall bests most of the recent vintages in BDX.

  • Seems I liked this more than some others. Let it open in the glass for 2-3 hr then drank over 2-3 hour evening. I thought this was very good. Nose was beautiful and complex. Lots of dark fruit and a meaty punch on the palate. More new world than I think of for Bordeaux, but I like that. Maybe not a long finish, but that just means have another sip :)

  • Dbl decant 3 hrs. Might have benefited from more. Nice secondary flavors, well balanced, big in the mid palette, not huge linger. Good value.

  • This was lovely last night, margauxberries, an appealing earthiness, nice balance. A little sweet in the first sips but it rounded out. I have seven bottles left, I'll give them another five years and they should be about at peak. Drinking beautifully now though. Deep purple/ruby Margaux color. 92 points.

  • The dark red fruit here is lovely without overpowering the minerality I love from a fine bordeaux. Very nice.

  • Somewhat shut down on the palate at this stage and the oak is yet to join; I think this will benefit from time.

Somewhat quiet on the palate - slight bell pepper, a whisper of brambly fruit and lots of vanilla oak.

Promising structure; nice balance with semi-fine grippy tannins (oak astringency notable) and backing acidity.

Leaving this open to slow ox for ~24 hours improved but did not fully open this wine.

Needs to time to integrate and re-assert itself, but I am confident this will be a great wine in time.

  • dark red color, cedar and red berries on the nose, firm oak note, a bit of bramble already, on the palate very young and closing down- perhaps a sign this is finally happening broadly for this very good vintage that showed quite beautifully at release across the board, broad but still approachable tannins, as this is shutting down and the oak is still not yet integrated- this is hard to evaluate, but I have a feeling this is going to be very good and perhaps even better, as awkward as it is right now- the balance is there.

  • 14% ABV. Deep ruby appearance. Coravin pour, 30 min glass decant.

Standard Bordeaux notes of blackberry, cassis, vanilla, graphite, tobacco, and hints of barnyard. Medium+ acidity with present, but polished tannins. Medium density. Good length of finish.

2014 has generally been overshadowed by the '15-'20 vintages, but I really enjoy 2014 Bordeauxs. They generally don't provide the level of depth or range that the best vintages can, but they provide very classic, elegant, and pure expression of Bordeaux. This effort by Malescot again confirms my thoughts on the vintage. Drinking well now.

  • Per WS: 93 points.
“Alluring, with Lapsang souchong notes that weave around the core of gently steeped red and black currant and plum fruit flavors. A strong graphite edge marks the finish, giving this excellent cut and drive. Very suave. Best from 2020 through 2030. 8,100 cases made.”

  • Dark red in color. Notes of pepper, licorice, and black cherries. Needed a bit of time to open up, flavor became fruitier as it opened up.

  • PnP. Consistent notes with last tasting, but bolder than I noted the first time on the palate with some spice and chalky tannins. Medium long ending with a pleasant touch of oak and the same pencil shavings and tobacco as noted last time. The wine is fresh and complex, a great example of how a good wine from an odd vintage like 2014 should taste like. The refinement of Margaux definitely shines.

  • Decanted for a couple of hours and followed over two days (re-bottled at the end of first night).
This wine is in a great place now, even better than our last bottle (had a year ago). Immediately after opening there is quite a bit of animalistic. reductive funk, but this dissipates with an hour or two of air. Thereafter it reveals an ethereal aged Bordeaux perfume of dark fruits (black cherry, cassis), smoldering coal, and grandpa's old wool cardigan (no joke; there is an old wool combined with a subtle underarm note here). I want this wine to read me a bedtime story :)
Tannins are mostly resolved. Everything in its right place. I can see this holding and improving for a good 10 more years, probably a bit longer, but so satisfying right now with a brief decant. I am loving 2014 Bordeaux more and more with each bottle I crack. It seems to be an early-maturing, classic vintage. Happy to have a number of these left. Rating: 93+

  • Similar to my critique 2 years ago, the wine exhibited dark cherry, some eucalyptus, licorice, blackberry, floral notes, slight vanilla and earth. Earth on the nose along with tobacco and leather. Medium body. Medium, but smooth tannins. Acidity has dissipated since my last tasting. 2 hour decant also made quite a difference.

  • Medium ruby, fading just slightly towards the rim. Decanted for about an hour. On the nose this is very classic and proper, though perhaps a touch tight, with aromas of blackcurrants, dried blackberries, loamy earth, smoked rosemary and spice. Medium bodied on the palate with medium+ acidity, fine but still slightly grippy tannins and flavors of fresh black fruits and grilled herbs. This is textbook Bordeaux.

  • My last of these from this vintage. This seemed quite improved from before, showing more definition and balance - the extra bit of age seems to make the difference, especially for this vintage. 93+pts.

  • First taste of the 2014.
Aroma was initially slightly closed, but opened up in the glass to give the characteristic Margaux floral/perfume
Slightly herbaceous at first, but soon revealed rich blackberry, plum and black cherry, some red fruit coming through on the long finish. Oak influence evident but subtle with fruit dominating. High tannin, but very fine and well integrated , some alcohol detectable on the finish.
Drunk over a day, final glasses had lost some of the aromatics, but palate had become more complex.

  • Classic Margaux perfumed nose, extending outwards of my decanter over 2 metres.. Preped with 1 hour of decanting time to soften the tannins.

Bold, with thick dark fruits, the tannins gradually became juicy, and over the 2 hours of drinking some cigar box notes too.

This Troisièmes Crus (Third Growths) Bordeaux remains to be fairly priced and is consistently solid, I am really growing to like this château! Enjoyed with TC, AK, ET and J over a massive tomahawk wagyu, in Enoteca TTDI.

  • Showing much better now - has the house style elements, surprisingly stacked and packed for the vintage. Has nice combination of power and elegance with a Christmas cake aspect that was very welcome.

  • Tasted via Coravin, first of 8 bottles purchased via the La Cave Warehouse liquidation auction. Perfectly stored since release. Aromas of road tar and pencil lead, along with loamy earth. Full bodied and dense, viscous. Beautiful acidic backbone and slightly gritty tannins. Drinking very young at this point. Poured a second glass and let it sit an hour or so, and it blossomed into a flavorful and large scaled Bordeaux that begs for steak frites. Needs more time, but nice now if it gets some air.

  • Coravined a single glass. Let it breath for 15 minutes and drank over the subsequent 30 minutes. Wonderful dark-fruited aromas with rustic notes on the nose. On the palate, rich raspberry notes early followed by black currants weaving elegantly against the gentle minerality. Medium-length finish. A concentrated wine that opens steadily given a little time. Classic, young-fruited, delicious Bordeaux.

  • Three great wines by the glass at Anhelo in downtown Phoenix:
    1) 2013 Dana Estates Onda
    1) 2014 Malescot St Exuprey
    3) 2015 Dana Estates Vaso
    4) 2018 Gravete de Certan

Killer pairing of the wines with the Wagyu NY Strip, Duck and beef Wellington. It is was hard to pick a favorite as they all held their own. The Malescot went really well with the duck and beef Wellington while the Mini VCC, Vaso and Onda paired perfectly with the Strip. All paired well with the Prime Filet Wellington. Overall loved them all but the Onda stole the show for me tonight.

  • Gave an hour decant and it opened nicely. Classic Margaux taste. Pencil lead and cigar box were the primary notes. Good to drink now or hold for 5 plus years I imagine.

  • This was quite drab and backward. Even after a couple of hours open, it was not so inviting and still felt awkward. Malescot is a great price/performance in most vintages but not this one.

  • Tasted after a 2 hr decant and also the following day, this is a textbook, mid-weight Left-Bank bordeaux. Crunchy acids and tannins still, but fresh and full of life at this stage. It features scents of dark red fruits (this is not a blue/dark fruit kind of wine), campfire smoke and a bit of black and bell pepper. Drinking nicely now with some breathing time, but in10 years this will be just classic older school claret, and it was a phenomenal deal when bought on release. Still a very good deal if bought now online, which I highly recommend that you do if you don't have any and like classic, medium-bodied Bordeaux.

  • Four hour decant and on a night were I drank an insane wine, this was not lost on me. For a little fun, ordered a ‘higher pedigree’ top Pomerol from the same vintage as a face off of sorts. This wine handily beat out the Pomerol on all fronts- complexity, depth of flavors, fruit, structure, etc. At Anhelo restaurant for $135 it’s an insane deal.

No new notes to add just continue to be impressed… and stressing my will power not to open a more recent better vintage. What a great wine, easily accessible while waiting for the ‘better’ more recent vintages to mature.

    -2016 Pagodes de Cos
    -2014 Malescot St Exupery

Only 15 minutes in the glass and the wine was already singing- and it’s a ‘14, who knew? Delicious Margaux already benefiting from its bottle age with beautiful dark red fruits, excellent minerality, spice and graphite and maybe a touch of smoke- really well done. This Chateau over delivers for its price point, making very good wines in off vintages and amazing wines in better vintages. Such a great Chateau.

  • Deep ruby red. Nose is a bit green at first, later evolved into coffee and plum. Very rich and round, lots of dark fruits filling your mouth with typical floral notes of Margaux. Elegant yet powerful and concentrated. Finish with prominent dark chocolate flavour and tannin on mid palate. Delicious on its own.

Very close to the expression of Chateau Tertre 2015. I see great improvement in their wines and it's pleasantly surprising. The only concern is that if they make a 2014 this bold, will that in better vintages, they will lose their Margaux elegance?

  • Cabernet-Sauvignon (58%) - Merlot (39%) - Petit Verdot (3%)
    14% d'alcool

    ~

    Cabernet-Sauvignon (58%) - Merlot (39%) - Petit Verdot (3%)
    14% ABV

Shows a grenat tint in the glass, with a tinge of amber.
Primary scents of sour cherry, cran-raspberry and aged barrel on the first approach.
However, some tertiary aromas really pull you in and show a glimpse of what a great future this wine will have.
Black tea, mushrooms, humid forest soil and a subtle vegetal undertone really color the wine in a deeper way.
The nose is formidable, one might even say mesmerizing. Very little decanting was necessary (1H) for this specific bottle - it already showed so well.

Dashing juice when tasted, it is pulled along by an impressive and lively acidity... quite sharp!
Red currants and plums join the party on the palate, and are strung along by this aforementioned structural line of acidity towards a confident and assertive mid-palate.
Also notable here is the taste of graphite.
The finale is as straight as an arrow, spicy and a bit dryer because of this noteworthy presence from the barrel. Sweet cinnamon and cedar combine and give the wine solid length and structure.

Plenty of energy in this bottling, but it never loses touch with its ease.
More time to age wouldn't hurt, it could nuance the ensemble and bonify it even further than what is in here.
However, the range of flavors and integration are pretty much already there... a beauty.

This wine exudes confidence and swagger.
It has a well-defined personnality and there is a lot of power under the hood of this racecar.

  • Decanted for a hour. Fragrant nose of dark cherries, that becomes black currants and plums on the round, pleasant palate. Definite notes of black tea and oak on the nice ending, plus pencil, with good acidity and already somewhat-integrated tannins. Drinks very well now; will age 5-7 years more to develop more tertiary flavors.

  • Dark crimson color with a faint hint of meniscus. Soft and feminine from the jump, with aromatics of red berries, cedar and mint. Silky and soft on the palate, with great typicity. Medium bodied and finish. This was fabulous on every dimension, and extremely enjoyable with NY Strip. Drinking well now. Great value in an otherwise unremarkable vintage. One hour decant.

  • This started out better and came together much quicker than my first bottle a couple years ago. It is drinking very well now but with plenty of upside to holding on for a few more years.

My previous tasting note really covered the details well, but I have to say - this time the fruit really stood out, and the oak was unnoticed.

  • Ready to drink after running it through an aerator once. Probably an hour decant if you want to do it the slow way. Fantastic nose, classic Bordeaux with nice fruit and complexity. Kept changing in the glass. Goes with many types of foods, including pasta, pork, chicken, mushrooms, cheese, etc.

  • Dark fruit (mostly plum), ink and asian spice on the nose, which is fairly muted. Medium to full-bodied, with beautifully balanced acidity and moderate amount of very soft tannins, giving the wine a mild, espresso-like finish. The fruit (plum, cherry) is upfront and vibrant. For such a young Bordeaux, this is surprisingly approachable, with even just a quick, splash decant -- though I'm sure it will improve over the next several years.

le tabac avec un peu de fleurs.
En bouche, cerises noires et mine de crayon avec de la terre
et du chocolat. Les tannins sont bien enrobés et fins.

  • I am open to opinion and help with this wine. I sat down this wine for few hours before and after for drinking. Raspberry and cherry and dark. Not as great as a regular California cab though I expect differences. I suspect this wine required for storage of several years before any drinking. It wasn't dry enough but the acidity level is mellow even without lot of food such as steak.

  • Young, def will prime in 5-7 years. Secondary notes are just about to show. Drinking nicely now but it’s very fruit-forward with dark cherry and raspberry notes. After an hour of decanting, you start to get some toasted bread, muddy, grassy, and soil notes. Very well structured, smooth, but more development to come.

  • This wine could potentially cellar for another 4-6 years before hitting its peak. The tannins were still grippy when first opened. Even after 30-45 min of breathing the tannins were pronounced. As the wine breathed, there was the emergence of delicate floral notes, violet and rose petal. Good complexity and long finish. Will be interesting to see how this ages in another 4-6 years.

  • Showed promise upon opening, however it was tight even after an hour. Second day it was even tighter and lacked character and definition (like some generic Napa cab). Seems that it would need at least another couple of years. Not sure it would show as well as the recently tasted 2012, which was quite spectacular.
I tasted this wine 2 years ago from 375ml, and it definitely improved since then.

  • Slow ox over 3 hours. Surprisingly forward out of the glass, could nose this for quite a while. Something a bit nutty going on but primarily berries and a touch of something floral.

Palate is suave and quite fleshy. Medium+ weight in the mouth. Tannin is there but not too grippy. Really enjoyable.

I think there's potential for it to go up a point but this is solid and really well-made as it is right now.

  • Needed an hour to open up but then was surprisingly aromatic and open in a surprisingly good way given how young it still is.

  • Still a bit young, but smooth and complex.

  • Earthy, moderate tannin. Drinking well right now.

  • I tend to like this producer and have really enjoyed it's 2nd wine from this particular vintage. This was bitter and more closed than the 2nd wine, unsurprisingly. Decanted for hours but still tightly wound, I would forget about this for a few years. Not as approachable as some '14 Bordeaux at this stage. 2nd wine is far more ready and worth seeking out.

  • Very good and drinking well at this age.

  • Still very primary. Hints of the classic marguax terroir make an appearance on the finish. Tons of body and structure that will reward those with patience. Hold 5 years then drink up

  • Wow, for an off year, this really delivered. Plush, velvet across the tongue with great essence of dark cherry and a cool sweet finish. Showing it’s youth, I would let these develop further in the cellar. Hold for now and drink 2022-2030.

  • A little bit disappointed. very tight tannis and decant for an hour. Subtle noise and deep ruby in colour. Texture is not Silky enough. Plum and Cedar. Perhaps it is too early?

  • Beautiful nose of a classic Margaux. Got the barnyard/leather funk upon opening which I do love. Even though this wine could use a year or two more lying down, it drank superbly. Nose of stewed dark fruits and earth. Tannins were smooth and on their way to becoming well integrated. Juicy. Delicious.

  • Compelling wine that is clearly Bordeaux and clearly Margaux. It’s a touch modern, with a bit more oak than classicists (e.g. me) prefer, but not so much as to obscure the excellent cassis and black cherry fruit. The mid palate is well proportioned, and the finish does not betray an overt vanilla/oaky tone, so for my palate it’s a lovely Bordeaux, from a vintage that rewards drinkers rather than speculators. Drink now, or hold for fifteen years.

  • Deep purple in color. Nose of violet and cedar box after a 3 hour decant. Plum, slight tobacco and burned wood on the attack. Red fruit on the mid-palate. I’m not sure how to best describe the finish, other than to say that it wasn’t long and it didn’t show much fruit. It’s young, so maybe it needs some more time to integrate in the bottle. It didn’t have the lush mouthfeel i think of from Margaux, but maybe it’s just a baby. Light tannins.

If you have several, try one young and then go back after a year or three.

  • More closed than previous bottle 9 months ago. Still has notes of graphite and charcoal on the palate, fruit has receded, nose is not as aromatic.

  • Will merit a higher score in 5-10 years. Nevertheless, I was surprised how good it is at this young age. This is a pretty, femanine wine with lavender, lilac, and red fruit with gentle tobacco notes.

  • -- decanted immediately before initial taste --
-- tasted non-blind over a couple hours on Day 1; revisited on Day 4 --

NOSE: ohhhh … yes!!! only moderately expressive, but the restrained giving is quite exciting!; medium-light savory plum is complicated by notes of light (old) oak, Kalamata olive, citric fennel fronds, and anise; lithe, for a Bordeaux.

    BODY: no sediment; medium bodied.

TASTE: oak; flashy; a bit smoky; light/tight purple fruits; Kalamata olive carries from the Nose to the palate; hard to assess upon opening; not particularly tannic, but it does seem tight; not funky; no pencil shavings; not overblown --- a Goldilocks wine --- but I do hope this opens/fleshes-out with air/age, which I expect it will; there's a pleasant old furniture note lurking; a touch earthy. Even better on Day 4: much fuller fruits. Buy again. I think a Drink Now – 2034 window is appropriately conservative.

  • Bdx varietal tasting - served double blind, purple fruit, spice, low tannin, some dank notes and a bit of char

  • Coravin sample, will come back to score. But after a couple glasses of 2013 Paradigm CS, this came off with a bit too much charred oak. I thought I saw a review on here that said something along the lines of "some charred oak and some more charred oak". Typical bordeaux characteristics, definitely some quality fruit in there, and lots of charred oak. It was OK after the Paradigm so I will wait and take another taste later on its own.

  • First in a blind flight of seven 'Bordeaux Variety' wines:

This showed the heaviest charred oak of the seven, an element that did not fade over three days. Leaning modern, and without a clear expression of place. Specifically, it did not offer the perfume or finesse for which Margaux is known. Instead, charred oak and the wine's burly presence imparted an impression of Graves. (Why buy Margaux for a Graves experience?) Also noticed a lack of integration conveyed by a series of abrupt phases, which might meld over the next several years.

Nothing changed over three days, for better or worse. Recommend holding for several years. Overall it finished toward the back of the seven. 91-92.

  • Seems pretty closed at the moment. There have been some very nice reviews lately so I was looking forward to trying this, but it’s a little disappointing. It’s young so it probably just needs more time.

  • Heavy barnyard funk upon opening, but after 20-30 min. of decanting this wine is firing on all cylinders. On the nose vibrant dark fruits, cool menthol, and sage. On the palate silky smooth, well-integrated tannins with savory earth and juicy, ripe dark fruits. Delicious; would love to see it in 10 years.

  • Decanted 5 hours and returned to bottle.
    Disjointed nose. some volatile acidity.
    Medium bodied on the palate.
Red fruits on the attack: cherry, strawberry, pomegranate.
Cherry and cassis on the medium long finish, with a bit of a bite.
Plenty of drying tannins. Good acidity.
    Noticeable oak but not overdone.
Went well with grilled chicken breasts, roasted brussells sprouts, and risotto.

  • Graphite, dark cherry, and cloves on the nose. Palate was dense, earthy, with a hint of fruit. Tannins are firm, well balanced acidity. Finish is long, with a hint of spice. Very nice wine.

  • Drank over two days. Expressive nose with layers of berries, plum; some hay and cabbage notes. Very well balanced on the palate; velvety texture, juicy tart fruit, excellent structure and good length as well. Love it. Posesses all attributes to age into something even more beautiful.

  • Really tight on the open, needed a lot of time in the decanter. Silky tannins that need more time to integrate. I would prefer a wine like this to have much more bottle age. Holding my others until 2021+

  • Drank over two days, and it's a good thing too, because the structure was so punishing the first day that it was hard to get anything out of it. Some seriously drying and abrasive tannin here. The fruit, however, is dark and deep, just needs a long time for the structure to relax before it comes out to play. Then it's characterized by blueberry/blackberry flavors delivered with a piercing primary intensity and a hint of lead pencils. This almost feels atypical for Margaux because it's so stern and masculine and dark in tone, but it's one serious bottle of Bordeaux that strikes a nice balance between the old-fashioned, austere structure and the slicker, swankier fruit tones.

  • pnp; stunning nose... wow... after that, palate and finish were more muted as might be expected for such a young Bordeaux.... full body, dark fruits... great QPR and look forward to trying again in a few years

  • This wine rocks! Another example of how 2014 will go down as the steal of the 21st century Bordeaux! Clearly as good as any $100 wine, this $40 bottle just kills it! Smooth as silk, structure is like 2010, but more open... Finish is exquisite.... Please find a better QPR Bordeaux and let me know... Loads of cherry medium to full bodied wine. Pop and pour - no need to wait on this baby... Flat out delicious.... I have had COS, Pagodas de COS, Carillon Angelus and Montorse's 2nd wine.... This one is right up there under the COS. I love it! Loading up! You will never see this bargain again - Period! I can only imagine how delightful my Palmers are from 2014!!! Margaux rocks in this vintage.... Load up people...

  • Very impressed with this wine despite it's youth. Black tone with hints of earth and tobacco yet good fruit. So easy on the palate but with a hint of youth. I look forward to drinking these over the coming decade.

  • Decanted for two hours. Black currant (common of the Margaux region this particular vintage), wet earth, hope chest, rose water and cherry reduction. A rolling finish that maintains the succulent qualities. Polished tannins and an impressive frame. Drink 2022 -.

  • Very aromatic wine, pencil lead/graphite aromas. The graphite notes carry on to the palate and integrate with the dark ruby red and violet fruit. Beautiful wine to pour and swirl at this young stage. So well balanced, very lifted feel to this, but with a full body. Youthful exuberance and elegance combined. Years ago I drank a '97 Chateau Margaux and it was not this good.

  • My buds were a bit off center having been recovering from a nasty cold. Pitch black wine with jammed pack black fruits with an cedar overtone. This is still in its infant stage, the palate had plenty of dark fruits almost to the point of over extracting and spices finishing medium. Needs another 5 years to flesh out.

  • Full bodied, with dark, black fruits, earth, tobacco, smoky cigar box notes and cedar wood. Classically styled, concentrated, juicy, tannic and as you would expect, quite young, give this 6-8 years for the fruit to come out and for the tannins to soften.

  • This fun ride of dark chocolate, cherry liqueur, fresh herbs and supple tannins is already fun to taste. Deep garnet in color with the fragrance of truffle, cocoa, boysenberry and blossoms, it’s smooth, soft, fleshy and round. The wine was produced from a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot and reached 14.2% alcohol with a pH of 3.82. 92-94 Pts
