Gorgeous nose. Mature dark fruit, sous bois, white pepper. Not sure if it was my wine glass from all the prior pours of the evening, but it finished a bit hot for me, which threw me off. But for the aromatics and pedigree of the vintage, this was a wonderful wine to experience.

Solo bottles are the hardest. I bought this on release ages ago, and it then just sat in the cellar…waiting…waiting. Finally tonight I decided enough was enough and popped the cork. It was mostly worth the wait.
I did not expect magic, and did not get it, but I did get a solid 1er Cru Burgundy, with earthy, loamy notes and a surprisingly solid core of fruit that even had a bit of cherry cola to it. Not much in the way of tannin left, but good acids to provide structure, and the umami elements happily dominated the finish.
Worth waiting over 20 years? I suppose so, especially if setting realistic expectations for the wine.

Nice wine. A bit surly and structured out of the gate, but with a couple hours in the decanter this softens into a deep, reasonably complex burg with intense, spicy Pinot fruit. The fruit is quite dense and crunchy, showing the old vines character. This is on the darker and more brooding end of the spectrum, with substantial structure, and I suspect it won't hit its apex until at least a decade from now.

This comes from ancient vines and is a pet favorite wine of mine. It’s still so young but quite tasty. Takes a couple hours in the decanter to show much of anything. But as it unfurls the nose is really very lovely and the palate is bright and mineral but on the lean side. It slowly deepens with air. Four hours in, the last sip was the best.

'99 is still so tight, not sure if it will ever open up but I will keep trying every six months. All things considered this was good but not great, more due to the vintage than the producer I would say.

A deep and dark red with no hints of age. Initial funk blows of to release lots of wood and fruit. This is much more about dark fruits than lighter reds often associated with cote de beaune. This is a big wine but nicely balanced. Approaching its drinking window but should keep another decade at least. A very good QPR.

From magnum -- opened and immediately poured. Good deep dark color, minimal bricking or any signs of age on the nose. A taut and slightly leaner style but nice black olive/cassis/tar/earth elements. A minerally/iron note. Great food wine.

Wines @ Salil's (Vernon, CT): The density of the 1999 vintage is here, but the fruit is a bit darker than what I would like. Worked nicely with food, but this seemed a bit hard and severe.

Somewhat disappointing in view of BH notes. It has lost it's primary fruit, but not old enough for a lot of secondary character. More red fruited to me at this time with earth, spice and some cedar. Middle weight and leaves me wanting more on the palate. OK but certainly not great. Perhaps it will get better with time.

reticent aromatics: roasted black plums, earth, iron, brown spice; medium weight, loam, ferrous, plums, moderate acidity and length. first bottle since 2009, when primary fruit was more on display.
confit duck, rhubarb mostarda, arugula, beets and chanterelles

My Sunday/Monday sipping wine. lovely nose of raspberries, spice, earth, cedar and hints of wood, more of the same on the palate, very sweet and rich on the palate, medium body, small amount of soft tannins present, medium finish. At its peak, but should hold another six years.

Quite ripe, with black cherry and cassis fruit, but there's an oaky edge that gives the wine a root beer/vanilla edge that I dislike. And there's not really much going on here besides the fruit, hardly any secondary nuances. Still drinks quite young and there's plenty of tannin around so maybe it will turn into something more interesting down the line.

Popped and poured, enjoyed with dinner over ~1.5 hours. Nose started earthy and mushroomy with dried cherry and floral aromas peeking through that took over as the wine sat in the glass. More dried cherry fruit on the palate, great depth of flavor, prominent minerality and adequate acidity. Really delicious, quite young but well-integrated. Drink or hold.

This a great Savigny from vines planted in 1902. I really need to stay away from last bottle for five years to see if it develops further. Right now it is redolent of earth, iron, and black cherries with refreshing acidity and wonderful balance. Perhaps lacking a little complexity, but this is a minor quibble.

A lovely, properly balanced burg. Enticing aromatics and excellent with filet mignon. Should last a long time.

Wow, this is just a big mouthful of metallic brett. I can sense there is a real wine underneath but just can't taste it. Disgusting, what a waste.

Blind tasting of vintage pairs (Alba Restaurant, London): Slightly jammy, but loads of raspberry 'n' spice pinot, very much my style - loved it. So vigorous, I assumed it must be really young and so guessed 2003.
