My first single vineyard from Produttori. I didn’t get the apparent floral/rose notes as all the other tasting notes indicate. What was more obvious to me were chocolate, licorice, and tar notes mixed with red fruit. Great balance paired with a long finish. Drinking well right now on pop and pour.

Brown-tinted red and clear. Lovely complex bouquet, classic Nebbiolo with rose petals emerging after a few hours of air. Plush mouthfeel with crisp, long finish.
I can't help but think so many people would think this isn't a "great" wine, but it was great. Really, really fun. One of those wines that has everyone at the table getting a kick out of it. Super cool.

Dinner at Home, Mill Valley, CA. From 750ml purchased on release. Decanted and returned to bottle mid-afternoon.
Fantastically fresh, vivid and transparent. Crazily engaging and satisfying nose. Surprisingly sweet youthful fruit on the palate, complicated by strong pulses of minerality and classic tar and floral rose notes. Surprisingly large scaled, but not heavy or tiring. Could use more detail on the finish, but I'd bet that will come with more time. Thoroughly enjoyable, even when finishing the glass after dinner without food. In its early window of approachability.

Lovely middle aged barbaresco. Really lifted rose perfume nose, much more about roses than tar and no oak tones to dull the experience. Palate is quite Burgundian , lovely mellow tannins , still red fruited and excellent length. Drinking beautifully now but not sure it’s got the structure to improve with further age.

A very strong bottle of Produttori. Classic and intense nose of still youthful Neb fruit with emerging saddle, tar and dried florals. The palate is so concentrated and so precise. Great balance is what is still a very youthful bottle of Nebbiolo.

Dinner at S.K.Y. (Chicago, IL): #10598 of 17305. Circumstances only allowed a pop and pour, but this was ripping from the get-go. Probably one of the best bottles of middle-aged Produttori I've had to date. The nose was incredible, with beautiful aromatics of red fruit and flowers. If anything, given the vintage, I had expected something a little darker in complexion. The palate is similar to the nose, with a lithe freshness and plenty of beautiful red-fruited flavours. It's overall a fairly light wine, with no signs of earth or funk at all. Incredibly pure and crystalline nebbiolo, with tannins that are just starting to resolve.

Opened at 10:30am, decanted and poured back into bottle for slow-ox until dinner. A beautiful, nuanced wine. Still youthful but approachable with sufficient air. A treat.

Lots of tar, cloves, meat stock and dried tomato on the nose. Compared to the Montestefano of the same year had at the same time this was much more masculine, firm and tight, though still in a medium structure. Maybe even a bit blocky at this stage with lots of firm but fine tannins. Will be a lot better with more age.

Overraskende moden. Tjære, roser, fioler, kirsebær. Bra lengde. Åpnet seg veldig etter to dager i kjøleskap med pumpekork. 1996 kan godt drikkes opp de neste årene.

Memorial Day weekend wines at Mike's: Wow. This bottle exceeded all of my expectations. Not only in quality but it was young and nowhere near peak. I have no idea if this is representative or not. It was most people's WOTN. Gorgeous nose of cherries, tar and roses. Complex and layered. The palate was lush and layered as well although tightly so. Cherries, earth and tar. I would have liked to revisit this but the bottle was drained quickly. Great showing.

Interesting nose. Well drinking now, but still potential. Spicy yet soft. Good length. (Still) quite tannic, hopefully this wine will not dry out, but I'm not sure. So: enjoy it now! Please, do not decant, but follow the wine as it evolves in the glass.

Nose was absolutely beautiful and expressive with big fruits and spices. Beautiful fruit right from the start and into the mid-palate followed by a rather grating huge tannic wash. Very, very dry. The finish lingers nicely but is all tannin. This wine needs more time in the bottle for sure.

2000 and previous Barolo and Barbaresco (My House (Portland, OR)): Heavy bricking on this one. Floral city on the nose here, along with some cranberry and graphite. Nice. Very pretty fruit and candy on the mid-palate (sweet gummy bears, with the plastic wrapper). Goes a little dirty on the finish, with more of the plastic flavors, but the sour fruit is certainly present in spades, and the hairs on my tongue stand up. Quite bitter tannins, but very very interesting and quite tasty. This too could stand another 5 years, but it is very enjoyable today. The next day the nose wasn't quite as expressive, but the palate and finish remained delicious. The tannins hadn't really smoothed out at all.

In Eastman. Opened for few hours, then decanted, which may have been a mistake. taste just after decanting was better than an hour later, having lost some of the nice mature nebbiolo fruit and having more of a drying finish. Nonetheless, a success with leg of lamb. Towards end of dinner the nose may have actually been coming out more, including a faint licorice note.

Prunes, old bonfire, rather short, dominating tannins, thus unbalaced.
