nice fruit, nice tannin, a bit overpriced...why do I pay this much for cali zin? I know what I'm going to get and I could get this with a cheap Italian nero de something for like $15

1 hour decant. Ruby purple. Nose of cocoa, raspberry, soy, cedar and lavender. Flavors are similar and on the sweet side. Heavy bodied. Low tannins and Low acidity. Beat out a Calcareous for Zinfandel of the night among 6 drinkers. About 90-91.

ZAP Simply Summer Celebration, nose of red and black fruit, briar and allspice, same on the palate, big body, showing well but maybe a year away from peak drinking window, tasty, long finish.

Average of two days. Much better day two...should have waited another 2-3 years. In that Zin tweener stage. Those who opened early will be disappointed. I think will be a low to mid 90s score when at maturity.

Clearly a Napa Zin, as the structure is more like a Cab. Result being that this is still youthful, but approachable. Had a lot of the great Zin characteristics, but lacked the "spice:. That said, a heady wine. Interestingly, we decanted half and left half in the bottle. The half in the bottle was fruitier and more forward, the decanted was smoother. Knowing that, I advise against decanting (just let it breathe for a while) and I take back what I said about youthful. :-) Drink Now. Enjoy. At $36 a bottle would I buy again? 50-50.... There are other Napa choices.

ZAP TRADE TASTING, nose of black cherry, black berry, minerals, and licorice, same on the palate, big body, slightly fruit forward, needs 2 years to peak, rich, ripe, and slightly brooding fruit, most of this comes from the Coombsville AVA, long finish.

This Zinfandel is dark ink in color with very slow legs. It carries aromas of licorice, blueberry rind, and rubber. A mix of fig, dark fruit, licorice, and a hint of grapefruit. Beran's Zinfandel is full bodied with a round texture. The finish is medium and carries a balanced acidity after it's breathed for a short time.

Dark purple, a syrupy full body texture, it is complex with notes of black currant, vanilla, chocolate, maybe sweet tobacco? Maple? Very nice. Tastes like an $80 bottle of Cabernet and what a great Zinfandel should taste like. Cheers

From Joseph Wagner's Copper Cane Wine portfolio. This is a new bottling for Beran in 2012 - a Napa Valley designated wine. As opposed to the more readily available Beran California Zinfandel, this wine is bigger and bolder with higher alcohol - 15.4% as compared to the 15.1% their California Zinfandel claims on the label.
Visually the wine is dense and clings to the glass. It is a blockbuster aromatically [and on the palate] with rich but not over-ripe fruit. Red and black licorice. Hoisin-glazed beef. Appealing pure fruit with low-medium acidity and a long finish. Overall, luscious and invites another sip.
Outstanding.
Pre-release sample.

Nothing necessarily unique or exceptional as Zins go but Zin is an exceptional grape in my book and this is a solid, pretty standard one - it's good

Overwhelming vanilla oak nose and flavors make this taste like cream soda with a bit of strawberry jam mixed in.
