Bought upon release. Lemon, lime, grapefruit, apple, peach, wheat, basil, oregano, light vanilla, a touch of spice, and intense minerality, with great acidity and impressive length. Medium-bodied, with great complexity, good concentration, and great persistence. Wow, quite impressive! And not just another Riesling, notably differentiates itself from others in its combination of intense minerality, light herbal notes, and very discrete oak. I liked it a lot!

In der Nase durchaus reduktiv, das legt sich aber recht zügig. Dann aromatisch extrem verhalten mit Andeutungen von grünem Zitrus, etwas hellem Steinobst, hellen Blüten. Dazu etwas Petrol, etwas Rauch. Das Scholz nehme ich nun sehr zurückhaltend wahr.
Am Gaumen mit sehr gutem Säurezug und unheimlich animierender und strukturierender dunkler Mineralik. Auchbhier aromatisch sehr verhalten, das ist im Moment ein reiner Strukturwein. Das kann er aber unheimlich gut, es ist auch deutlich pikant und auch etwas salzig.
Sehr lang, das bleibt hängen.
Der Wein scheint sich wieder zu finden, braucht im Moment unheimlich viel Luft und ich hatte heute weder Lust auf eine Karaffe noch auf ewig langes Warten.
WVL für die letzte Flasche in 2+ Jahren und dann wird belüftet bis der Arzt kommt.

Tag 1: Gezeichnet von schwefliger Reduktion und Popcorn. Dazu etwas zitrisch und auch dunkelsteinig, minimal exotisch, und etwas Steinobst. Am Gaumen ebenfalls gezeichnet wie oben, fast scharf-schweflig. Hier mit ebenfalls deutlichem Popcorn, das komplett alles überlagert und auch lang bleibt. Länge hat’s durchaus, die ist aber deutlich extrakt- und vor allem holzkaramellig.
Tag 2: Nun nur noch verhalten Reduktiv und mit deutlich besser eingebundenem Holz. In der Nase nun noch etwas Schuhcreme (typisches Riesling-Petrol), dazu auch deutlicher zitrisch und hell-floral, daneben aber auch deutlich dunkel und steinig. Tatsächlich ein sehr spannender Kontrast. Am Gaumen deutlich harmonischer, knochentrocken und mit sehr viel Extrakt und Säurezug. Hier auch deutlich dunkelmineralisch. Immer noch sehr überzeugende Länge.
Ist insgesamt momentan nicht mein Wein und scheint in einer schwierigen Phase. Wiedervorlage in 2 Jahren.

To the best of my recall, the first time I’m trying a wine from this producer. Lively acidity on the palate, with a steely focus on the nose. I’m definitely enjoying this, but it is still a young wine that will develop additional complexity with more time in the bottle.
I’m having another glass of this two days after I originally opened it, and I continue to enjoy this. I’m now getting some slate and minerality on the nose and tart white fruits (apple?) on the palate. Given how well it’s showing two days after opening, I am even more convinced that this wine has a lot of potential for favorable evolution with more time bottle.

PnP, after about 5 years of bottle aging, my first bottle was tested. Already the first sips reveal the sublimity and greatness of that wine. That is high class Riesling! On day two it improved further.
A perfect animating flow, harmonious acid, citrus, not a gram of fat, maskulin, spicy, even some hints of bacon (on the 1. day), many different and changing facets and impressions, never too loud or too much, good precision, pronounced depth AND an impressing and complex minerality that arises from the black basalt soil (especially day 2) on which the wine grows - that's why the name is 'Pechstein'.
Imo, will even be better with two more years of bottle age.

Der Wein ist insgesamt momentan sehr von grünen zitrischen Aromen geprägt, insbesondere Limette bekomme ich sehr stark sowohl in der Nase als auch am Gaumen. Dazu gibt’s eine deutliche Hefe-Prägung und eine leichte Exotik, aber auch eine steinige Komponente.
Am Gaumen hält sich das so, dazu von Buhl’sch knochentrocken.
Sehr anständige Länge mit noch leicht fordernder Bitternote. Das macht insgesamt trotzdem Mut, die zweite Flasche noch einmal deutlich länger liegen zu lassen. Je nach weiterer Reifung sehe ich den auch bei bis 93-94.

Resolutely dry, and loaded with crisp tree fruit (crisp peach, green apple), this remains an austere yet admirable wine. It’s sort of like a German cat, aloof and elegant, with a penetrating gaze.

2h decanted, drank from Quatrophil Bdx over two days. Still very very young... But you can already feel the underlying power of this wine. Fascinating nose with a mix of tropical fruit and all kinds of green fruit and herbal flavors plus the spicy smokiness of the black basalt. Bonedry and as refreshing as an isotonic enrgydrink, oak is just supportive but never prominent. A little grip in the moderate extract, catchy and precise acidity, animating saline minerality in a long finish. Even better the next day with a much rounder mouthfeel. Needs a couple of years to find together, but this wine should shine brightly someday. 92++

If tasted blind I'm convinced i would have taken this wine for a dry Mosel. Crisp, high acidity and enough fruit. Compared to other Pfalz GGs this one also carries more of traditional Riesling tones of rubber and petroleum. Above medium finish. Young. Great wine!

This is surprisingly elegant. I was expecting something bigger boned, but pleasantly impressed with the clarity and the flinty, citrus aromas and bright and persistent palate presence. I do think that some additional cellar time is warranted, to meld things together just a bit more.
