Initially quite open with some evident notes a petrol, layers of minerality. Very concentrated and long and when paired with food you feel the manly core of acidity, citrus galore. A vertical wine from an open vintage. Still young. #Schur

A similar experience to ACYSO; this was quite dark out of the bottle and seemed advanced. Ripe stone fruit, some apple, nuts, and honey. Great to have tried.

BYOB dinner and then some; 2/1/2024-2/2/2024 (Avalon, Amsterdam): [Tasted blind] The petrol took me to riesling, but the acidity made me doubt it. This wine was on my bucket list, but the showing of tonight did not justify that spot. It felt too advanced for its age, a bit tired. Missing some tension, especially for riesling (and for a wine of this status). Medium intensity with petrol, lemon, lime, honey, linoleum. Ripe. Medium+ acidity, medium+ finish

Tuesday (Chicago, IL): Surprisingly dark in colour and coming across as advanced, though this was still a great wine in and of itself. It just seemed more mature than I would have expected for a 2012. The nose initially shows a burnished, stone fruit quality, even though there is still lots of riesling-driven fruit aromatics and flavours. We put it in a decanter -- I think that was the right move, as this actually became more shapely as it got more air. The minerality and brightness gained strength, and the last sips were best.

Fragrant nose, with a whiff of kerosine at the end. Multi-layered on the palate. Notes of green apples, lemon with a touch of honey. Balanced acidity and alcohol. Still fresh! Long finish. Paired well with an Omakase meal.

PnP. No formal notes Rather evolved yellow colour. Yellow fruits, minerality, a bit reserved. Should it have been decanted? Harmonious palate, h-A, mB, dry, complex intense fruit ending in a long finish. Drink now-onwards

Initial diesel, flowers, honey, citrus, and pears on the nose. On the palate with pitted fruit palate on top of the flavors from the nose, this was great with a triple crème Brie

Pre La Paulée Dinner with friends (Home): 12 Donnhoff GG/Keller/CsH horizontal. Each wine showed so darn well though the Hune was clearly my favorite with similar concentration to the other wines but an extra gear of precision and energy that made it stand out. Early peak drinking window.

PnP. Pale yellow in color, slightly greenish hue. Nose is honeysuckle and citrus. I do detect the very subtle gasoline people referenced. Palate is tart, key lime pie, lemon peel, green apple, honey, aspects of crushed rock and dust. Light- to medium-bodied, slightly vibrating, with a crisp, slightly sour finish. Very nicely balanced and integrated. I suspect there is upside here.

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2012 (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald Universal Bottle was double decanted about 7h before the tasting. Pale yellow color. Muted nose, dense, dark and with some petrol. This wine is completely closed and shows only a glimpse of its future glory. Bone dry, salty mineral notes, wonderful extract and depth. Lean and elegant. Long, very fine and almost shy finish. Re-tasted after about 2h’s and it opened up a bit more and gained complexity. Will be an awesome wine in a decade. Now 92+++

Served blind, and we did not get it; it is precise, elegant, intense, bursting with fruit, a real 2012 in terms of being surprisingly accesible and friendly - especially being a Clos St. Hune. #SøllerødKro#MB
From magnum this was very tasty. There's a whiff of petrol to start with. Then there was a suggestion of tropical fruits but the wine then tightened to show more citrus and flint. It had excellent clarity and focus, was voluminous and layered and had a finish that went on and on.

Another sample of this special wine. Same as before. Gorgeous sweet honey aroma with the slightest of petrol on the nose. So so many layers to this. Sweetness and acidity with melon, lemon, apple, tropical fruits. Simply lovely.

A bit muted open opening but very pronounced diesel aromas. Given an hour in the glass it opens up a bit more showing assorted apples, fresh grapes, lime zest, white flowers and crushed rock.
If the nose is a bit shy at this stage the palate shows off this wine’s true class. Super intensive with almost oily mouthfeel and razor sharp acidity. Full bodied for being a dry Riesling. Crazy ripeness to the fruit without being heavy. The finish lingers for a good while. It has huge potential and should be given at least 5 years from now.

There is a reason why this wine is so revered. It is simply stunning. The balance, the poise, the elegance. Minerality, citrus, sweetness, classic petrol nose. This was just a glass from Coravin, but it wasn’t enough. It left you wanting more. Spectacular stuff.

HDH auction at Spiaggia (ft. Maison Leroy); 9/13/2018-9/15/2018 (Chicago, IL): Yeah, this is just kind of stupidly young right now. But hey, I didn't open it. There's incredible balance here -- really lovely sweet fruit that just balances everything so well. Linear, with powerful acidity and minerality, this is just the right amount of lean, but also the right amount of sweet fruit to balance it out. Rounder and softer than the 2011, and drinking much better right now.

Great wines at Oriole in Chicago!: Drank at Oriole in Chicago as part of a reserve tasting list. I was shocked at how approachable this young Clos Ste. Hune was. At first there was a slight hint of petrol and salt breeze which was lovely. The wine was so elegant and pretty, with hints of dried limerock, lime fruit dust, pithy, playful sweet lime fruit, hints of earth, dried stones, apple peel. The wine is just so fluid. It is hard to describe the taste, because, none of these descriptions are at the forefront or the rear, they just come all at once in such an easygoing, but streamlined package. I will be seeking out a bunch of these!

Very pale colour. Light nose, with bright, fresh notes of limestone, fresh lime, and a hint of gunpowder. Palate is mild but very complex. There are mild flavours of fresh lime, mineral water, lime leaf, nori, and cantaloupe. The acidity is not overwhelming, but it is persistent, and the finish is very long. There is a hint of tannin, and a tiny hint of glycerin.
Its a baby Clos Ste HUne I am being told. Comes from that vineyard as well. Pure limestone and very old vines, the oldest 80 years old with an average of 60. High density of vine clippings too. That is utterly stunning. Well that is absolutely awesome.

Mostly Riesling Tasting at Domain Trimbach (Ribeauvillé, France): Incredibly fine, detailed, and delicate. Lovely dry stone fruit with sensational minerality. Not particularly weighty or dense compared to other vintages of Clos Ste. Hune. Finish is drenched in soil. Classic and built to age. I would compare it to vintages such as 2004 and 1999. No question in my mind that it is superior to the 2011 which I tasted last year.

Minerality driven. Very good scale on palate. Very elegant on palate.
