Pop and pour. Light gold color which seemed appropriate for its age. Expressive nose of grilled pineapple, butterscotch, and a touch of petrol. Palate is medium-bodied, silky with flavors of Golden Delicious apples and honey. Sufficient acidity to balance the sweetness. A pleasant surprise.

There was a time when I pooh poohed Sauternes second growths (with the exception of the two Doisy wines). Either these wines have got better or something has happened to my palate. This is my second half-bottle in a month, and both have performed exceptionally well: beautiful lift of green banana, marzipan and superior industrial fluid on the nose; very good mouthfeel, a little light perhaps, but there are times when a light Sauternes is exactly what one wants. The 2005 vintage is obviously adding something to this, but overall I have been impressed by "humbler" Sauternes such as de Malle, Filhot and Caillou recently.
Sauternes seems to be going through a difficult time at the moment, as our collective palates are becoming drier (and I do understand this - I am struggling with the older style German wines at the moment). But if you can push your palate in the direction of the luxuriance of Sauternes, you will not be disappointed.

It's a second growth so, of course, it lacks the depth of its grander first growth relatives. But, nonetheless, within the parameters of what it is, and what it wants to be, this is a fine wine = light but lifted nose of muted toffee and tropical fruit; light texture of the same, but clean and elegant. An understated but refreshing wine. If you want something grander, then choose something grander (and my cellar is full of Climens, Rieussec, and noteworthy Sauternes). They are all great wines but, in its own way, so is this wine, in its humble simplicity.

Odd, I didn't much like this out of a 375 ml bottle. Tasters below did. I found it simple and lacking in acidity and even sweetness. But I paid little for it and I drank too much before it, so this is just a dumb cheap drunk rambling. Not bad by any means.

Sweet pear, honey, and clean must; some elegance; good acidity keeps it lively on the finish; not much complexity right now, but seems to have the stuffing to improve

Deep gold color, honey, meyer lemon, mandarin oranges and wildflowers on the nose. Medium body, very sweet but balanced with a healthy amount of acidity. The sweetness comes and fades over the medium length finish. This is such a bright and lively wine.

Can't compare to the suduiraut, but decent nonetheless. Nose is a bit muted with some apricot, but mouth feel is nice and the long finish is excellent with plenty of spice and acidity. P.S. Starting to open up with some pear and pineapple on the nose.

From 750; golden, still youthful; nose is honeyed and rich with pineapple and peach; those fruits continue onto the palate which comes across as a little heavy, decent spiciness, lacks some acidity to love it now so give this plenty more time before opening.

Half-bottle. The wine offered peach, tangerine, pineapple and botrytis on the nose. On the palate the wine showed nice botrytis spiciness, with stone fruits, some sweet pineapple, some sweet red apple, a lemon tart finish, and medium length. The wine had medium-level acidity and medium-level sweetness in the context of Sauternes and hence seemed pretty balanced. I liked it. It delivered for its price. 87+

Very sweet and powerful tropical nose and taste. Less honeyed than the Rayne Vigneau I had the other day, though still good depth and paired well with blue cheese.

Was the same color as our daughter's hair. Alcohol nose, almost petrol-like, finish was not like it smelled. It was not as sweet as I thought it would be. We had it with tiramisu and it was probably not the best pairing, but worth the 20 buck...

Very heavy viscosity. It was really lacking in acidity but managed to avoid being gloppy or sweet. My biggest problem was the heat and alcohol on the finish, although I was told that will calm down over time. Great value at $20, might re-buy.

Bright straw colour. Delicate, shy nose that displays refined scents of dried apricot, straw, honey wrapped up in a thin spicy vanilla, waxy dimension. Plenty of finesse and silkiness. Harmonius and gentle in the character, supported by an underlying, subdued strenght from the dried fruit. Its spicy dimension keeps coming back, understated and nervous at once. On the palate it's rich but bright , not overly concentrated and perfectly balanced. Good correspondence to the nose. Long finish. Rebuy: yes.

tout à fait excellent. À ce prix c'est vraiment un super achat, avec un bel équilibre entre le côté botrytisé, les notes d'Abricots et la touche vanillée de l'élevage. ca fait un peu costarde au nez, bel équilibre en bouche. Impec...

My oh my was this beautiful in the glass. A very nice medium gold in color. The aromas that emanated from this beauty were powerful bursts of apple cobbler, honeysuckle, vanilla and citrus. A full mouth feel with just the right amount of oily and sweetness. On the palate it was elegant and smooth with huge flavors of honey, caramel and tea with undertones of apple and pears. A very nice, pleasant and lingering finish of pear, honey and spice (allspice or clove are what I detected). I didn't find the acidity to be as bright as some others have noted but it is just enough to balance it all out. It is a fairly complex wine that is well balanced. This wine is oh so young but still very approachable right now. Amazing how daring it is, tempting me to drink more. I must resist! Overall this is an excellent Sauternes at the price point and I suspect this is going to get much, much better with proper ageing. Probably a real nice example of the quality everyone is raving about in the 2005 vintage.

2005 Bordeaux: Episode 2 (Wine Exchange - Orange, CA): I thought this was pretty average for a Sauterne. Strong waxy notes against a backdrop of poached apples, dried apricots, and graham cracker. Bitter and angular on the finish. WS 92. 85-86 points.

BORDEAUX 2005 / Sauternes tasted in 2006 (Bordeaux): A discrete nose with botrytis infused tropical fruit punch flavors, and a somewhat light feeling on the palate. Nice balance though a tad medicinal on the finish. Overall pretty good. 87-89+
