  • Not a stunning expérience. Wine is still enjoyable but vibrations are limited. Decanting helps. Maybe another 48h on carafe could help.

  • Not as heralded a vintage as others in this era but this was superb. At first it was all nose—iron, blood, red autumnal fruits but it was a bit tense and closed. After about 1 hr open (in bottle) the palate woke up and it really came alive with a fabulous silky mouth, succulent dark red fruits, iron on the finish. Lacking some of depth of fruit of more famous vintages but very much alive and energizing. In a higher toned style to my taste. (Perfectly stored bottle that was bought on release.)

  • Intimate Dinner Series (Carlucci's, Downers Grove): Popped and allowed to sit a while before being poured and followed over the course a few hours. Notes of red currant, pepper and herbs, perhaps also a touch vegetal. Red fruit and pepper on the palate. Develops an intriguing pine needle/evergreen note. Vegetal notes appear and fade between fruit and spice aromas. Develops a nice floral note after a couple of hours in the glass. By the end of the evening, about four hours after the cork was pulled, the fruit had really come forward and added weight on the palate.

  • Surprised to find this still so youthful on the palate. Stunning ripe nose, lilies and some dried meat. On the palate it's less exciting. Very good example for a top syrah, though. Length a bit disappointing. Was it worth the money (roughly 350 dollars at a restaurant)? To a certain extent only.

  • Perfectly acceptable but this wine, even well stored bottles, is on a downward slope. Lacks palate complexity at this point although capably displays discrete dry dark fruit and soil notes. Consumed over two hours.

  • I had stood this 750ml for weeks, and had extremely high hopes and dreams. Opened, decanted, and savored on its own for about 60 minutes to start, and then resumed another 60-90 mins later to see how it evolved. The nose was really lovely, if not stunning. A bit less impressive on the palate: tasty, balanced, but surprisingly unremarkable in a "sum-of-the-parts" fashion. That was just the point: I had extreme difficulty identifying individual components of nose or palate, all the while enjoying the total package. Nice structure, and after a couple hours, that overwhelmed/dried out relative to the level of fruit. Med-long, lovely, lingering finish. A highly enjoyable bottle, but a bit disappointing given the price tag and pedigree. I am also surprised to see so few notes on this specific bottle: is this really that "off-the-run?" Drink up: I can't imagine further upside from here.

  • From a 25 ml pour from a dispenser at The Sampler in London. Rich, complex nose of paprika, cherry pie, barbecue sauce, and peat. Very airy and effortless in the mouth--good food wine. The structure seems to have come into place, so this is probably near peak. This isn't really a good match for my palate so I wasn't personally taken with it, but it's objectively an interesting and well-made wine firing on all cylinders.

  • Sadly, this bottle never opened up. Was not corked, nor any bricking, just would not show anything, waited on it for 3 1/2 hours decanted.

  • No notes taken. Opened about 90 minutes before serving. Served after a pair of Rousseau Chambertins ('88 and '00) and represented a fairly significant change of direction. The nose was stunning. Just what you'd expect from a La La. A bit less impressive on the palate. A good core of flavor, but doesn't expand across the palate as you'd expect. More structure than fruit. Finishes strong with a long, lingering finish. A great bottle of wine, but nowhere near as good as the '88s.

Nose at time of opening: surprisingly vibrant youthful and on the black fruit side
Colour: still holding its own with barely an orange ring on the hedge of the glass.
taste at time of opening: poured a few drops right after opening ( I wanted to be sure the wine was ok.... oooook I could not wait !!!!)subdued, but on the fruit... Almost Burgundylike, I was puzzled, but at least the wine was not flawed. I put the cork wet side first, back on the bottle and left the bottle untouched for ± 5 hours

    5 hours later:
Nose took a much more earthy tone
    Colour: unchanged
Mouth: the meaty side is now very present, the tannins are gone of course, but great balance, lots of layers on the palate, mushrooms, grilled meat, still a little bit of black berries
    A great bottle

  • garagiste/funk to it; classic Cote Rotie; fruit is lying low, almost gone; bacon, licorice

  • Leo's Blind Group/Ben G's Turn (New York, NY): Consumed this with the 1982 and this is more vibrant of the two. (They were both fantastic.) Pepper and bacon were on the nose with plums and good acid on the palate. Such a pleasure to consume this with life still left.

  • Leo's Blind Tasting Group - May '10 edition (Ben's): Starts out surprisingly herbal and minty, then with a little air it builds an incredible flavour profile of red fruits, olives and beef with an intense smoky character beneath. Brawny and powerful in the mouth, feeling surprisingly youthful with the tannins still quite firm but the balance, depth and sense of presence here is amazing.

  • Leaner and more acidic than the last bottle I drank, but still quite good. Probably time to drink up, though.

  • Wow!
Marcel Guigal gave us this bottle as part of a wedding present in 1990. It's beautifully developed yet may go yet for years. Leather and berries nose provide the glorious CoteRotie stink. More please. Medium full body rich berries, spice and oak in the flavor.

  • 4 Star Syrah Dinner at 11 Madison Park (NYC): Jason's bottle paired with '89 La Mouline and angus steak. Similar to the Mouline, but not as big or bold. While the same grilled steak and pepper were there, they were not as strong as with the Mouline, acidity was more noticeable and flavors were a little more earthier. Could argue that it was more complex than the Mouline, but most felt the Mouline was more enjoyable in the end as I did, although at first I was leaning towards the Landonne.

  • Drank alongside a 93 La Turque and this beat it hands downs. Very nice ruby red color - much younger looking than the La Turque despite being 7 years older. Very pleasant aromatics intermixed between floral and meaty/smoky scents. Realy nice mouthfeel and great balance although finish was a bit weak and of course it lacked the depth and complexity of a great vintage. Nonetheless, this bottle was at its peak and was singing tonight. No need to give this one too much air although decanting might be in order due to the sediment.

  • La La Offline; 4/18/2008-4/19/2008: La La Land offline
Aromatic. Quite tight. Very intense, almost painfully so. Very youthful. Lovely balance and ripe tannins. You feel that everything is in place for a great wine in time. exc-

  • Guigal LaLa Dinner @ Bonds (London) Very dark color, looked quite youthful, dark sweet fruit on the nose. silky smooth tanins, mouthfilling dark fruits, this wine is till evolving, great balance and got better and better as night went along

  • Needs a few more years to come together as the massive tannins still dominate but all the elements are there and this will be fantastic in another 10 years(though it wasn't too bad tonight!).
