  • Prior bottle was exactly a year ago and this wine remains in a very good spot. Black cherry, light spices and earth notes on the nose as well as a general note of sweet, mixed blackfruits. Between medium and full bodied with black cherry and just some hints of red cherry upfront, moving to black raspberry through the middle. There's excellent overall density as well as depth of fruit through the mid-body. However when you add in the spices, acidity and tannins on the back, the result is an increasing sense of balance. In general, I'd say balance has improved slightly since my prior bottle and also noticeably improved in this bottle over the course of 2+ hours open. Once it fully came together this wine showed quite impressively, with perhaps even room for additional positive evolution. I'll plan to open my last bottle in June/July 2024.

  • Prior bottle was almost exactly a year ago and the wine has improved along the lines I'd hoped/anticipated. Both black and red cherry notes on the nose along with spices and earth qualities. Nose was much prettier and less unidimensional (all power blackfruit) as compared to my prior bottle. Between medium and full bodied with both black and red cherry upfront, evolving to darker cherry with just some light hints of black raspberry through the middle. Integrated spices and earth notes and tart black cherry notes come in on the back. The tart notes and overall tannins/structure are noticeably better balance with the fruit than in my prior bottle. The mid-body has opened up as I'd hoped and the transition from mid to finish is better integrated. Wine should continue to improve along these lines and clearly has the elements for a long life. Next bottle for me will be June/July 2023.

  • Dark red fruits, boysenberry, w hints of pomegranate, sweet ripe fruit but tartness to balance. Despite being so big, it remains balanced and light on its feet. Fantastic!

  • A fantastic effort from Morlet, and one of my favorite Sonoma Pinot Noirs. A confident bouquet of red cherry, sous bois, flowers, and spice box. Medium bodied, fresh, good depth and a focused finish. Will evolve and improve for at least another 5+ years.

  • Black raspberry and spice notes on a very big, powerful nose. Nearly full bodied with a mix of more rounded black cherry and more powerful, deeper and darker black raspberry as the defining fruit notes. Spices and tart black cherry come in on the backside and there's good length on the finish. The mid-body, while more powerful and forward than the 2013 Coteaux Nobles from the prior night, still shows good balance so the wine feels rich, but with clarity of fruit. With a bit more time, as the fruit and structure notes continue to come together, the mid-body should lose some of its overt power and take on a more elegant feel. I'll plan to open my next bottle in June/July 2022.

  • I have had this wine before and liked it, but tonight all I tasted was jam and menthol. It was overpowering. I’m going to try again later.

  • Mamma mia!! Very silky wine. Beautiful bouquet of sour cherry, figs, and tobacco. Palate is full bodied sour cherry with a hint of burnt caramel. Went great with bacon. Yum yum yum! Makes you feel like flying on top of a swan over a volcano! 93 points.

  • Fantastic bottle if you let it sit a couple more years. Tons of red cherry, cola, light rice and earthy notes with a medium red color. Finish was about 40 seconds and pairs well with fish and chicken. Decanted for about 75 minutes before starting to drink and got better over the following hour. Superb balance

  • Agreed, red cherry and spice. At this point the wine really needs an extended decant (8+hr) to mellow and incorporate the acidity. I believe patience will pay dividends, hold four or five more years for splash decant enjoyment. Cheers!

  • Morlet: Red cherry, earth, spice, and a floral emlement that adds lift. Pure and clean on entry, with rhubarb and red raspberry picking up the rear and adding to an even more complete execution of complex flavors. 93 points.

  • This pretty and agreeable Pinot starts off plain but, after about two hours of air, becomes interesting, though not fulsome or complex. Cherry red in color and medium in body, the wine offers aromas of black cherry, candied walnuts, and fresh cloves. Tastes of pomegranate, cranberry, cola, and dried herbs, with a bright and lifted finish. 14.7% alcohol.

This is more high-toned and red-fruit driven than many Morlet Pinots I've had in the past. It doesn't have the same depth or intensity, but it offers a more elegant profile - think Littorai with a little more fruit and a lot less acidic bite. I think it lacks a bit in complexity, but I'd be tempted to wait another year to see if more layers develop. 92-93 for now.

  • Ripe, sweet kirsh nose along with fine oak. Palate is more restrained with an underipe fruit quality providing a tangy, sharp acidity that holds it all together. I wonder where this will go in a few years. It's a bit much at this stage.

  • Possibly my favorite Pinot — certainly at this price point. Like other Morlet Pino I have had (Joli), I taste lots of red berries. It is a fruit forward drink. Very smooth and very enjoyable. My wife says it’s her favorite.

  • Black cherry, spice box, raspberry liqueur, hints of forest floor and damp soil. Lighter to medium bodied, this is nicely rounded with hallmark Morlet silky texture. Still quite fresh and showing a good amount of red fruit, it is somewhat forward but doesn't offer the backbone and depth of the highest end pinot offerings. Super fun to drink now. Not sure it will get a lot better.

  • Morlet tasting (Saint Helena): Black cherry, unripe red and black raspberry, soil, forest floor, and some leather. Earth driven and softer in terms of an overt flashiness of fruit. The core is ripe, but less concentrated or intense mid-palate. Beautifully delicate on the back end, finishing light-to-medium.

Elegant and subtle, with a profile that veers toward a leaner push of flavors overall. Drink now.

  • Duck for Days Pinot Noir WX+ Meetup (Sun Wah Chinese BBQ): Elegant styling yet very bold.
Darker fruit again with more black cherry cola.
Long finish. Moderate complexity. Wanted to be blown away - very good but not quite.
