'94 California Cabs in Palo Alto (Palo Alto, California): (Tasted Blind, Wine D) Moderate bricking. The nose is heading a little more rustic and savoury on this with aromas of animal fur, dark savoury cherry, plum and undergrowth. There is a bit of a Merlot thing on the nose and palate with pronounced plush plum notes. The palate has moderate remaining tannin and moderate acid. Quite liked this. Never did hear the exact final blend on this, but as I understand it there is a significant portion of Merlot. My #2, the Group's #4.

A good gamble at a bargain price. While I feel it is past its peak, it was a very nice aged cab...better than a much more expensive 1996 Dalla Valle from the night before. The blemish here is that there is a certain tinge of carmelized flavor to the basically plum and raspberry fruit. There is leather all over this. Nice nose but the finish is getting shorter than I'd like. All the parts meld together.

Still needs another 5 or 10 years, has a layer of scruffy tannin on top of the fruit that starts out mild but quickly fattens up. Even so, definitely more austere than the To-Kalon selection bottling.

beautiful color, no hint of browning or showing its age. if you can't smell vanilla on this nose, you never will. beautiful aroma that i could have just smelled all night long, with a hint of cedar box. very rich mouthfeel, smooth and silky, with predominantly plum on the midpalate and finish. tannins still present on the finish indicating this one is ready to drink now or can still hold a few years.

This wine was still dark in color and medium to full-bodied. The flavors were of blackberry, currant, anise and plum. My sense was this wine is at or possibly past its prime at this point. It was enjoyable but had a bit of possible oxidation on the back end.

Beautiful aged cab that was absolutely singing tonight with a nice earthy edge to it. Seems to be in its prime now and for how long?

similar notes to 6/2007 - a little less vanilla on the nose and a hint of licorice on the finish - very enjoyable and what good, aged cab is all about

Took a few minutes for some funk to blow off but was beautiful afterwards. Great secondary flavors emerging now. This has held up really well.
