Popped and poured. Nice dark though not completely opaque ruby color that actually left a stain on the glass. Lovely black cherry perfume. Slightly candied red fruit highlights. Fully mature in the mouth, but with plenty of residual fruit, plus soil/earth. Only lacking a bit of flesh at the end. 5-13-15-8: 91/100.
Next day: this did well in the bottle overnight, even picked up some fruit on the finish. I’d give the same score today.

Pulled the cork 90 minutes before dinner of Duck Confit. First pour a bit tart. New experience with this wine. Drank out of Grassl Cru glasses. Poured more wine to let it air. Red fruit dominates. Not quite Chambolle light but not heavy either. For sure 1er Cru depth and fullness. Not feminine or masculine. A tweener but very good. Nice acidity and mouthfeel. Very nice for the $80 price point.

Pulled the cork 90 minutes before dinner of Duck Confit & roasted potatoes in duck fat. No decant. Red fruits dominate. Very smooth & delicate. Lots of red fruit flavors with complexity for sure beyond a Villages wine. Nice flavor layers. Very good.

Upon opening this was very tight, a bit tannic and with very little fruit. I have followed this over 24+ hours, and it opened up slowly but not entirely it seems. This is a very serious wine in the sense that it makes you work to like it and to taste its intricacies. On the nose and palate I found intense dark cherry, forest floor, some spice. The wine is very structured, with high acidity, medium + tannins, and a long finish. In the end, this didn't win me over stylistically, but if this style of wine is your thing I reckon it is a good wine.

Lush, medium-fullish nose. Red cherry and hints of perfume. Spice and mineral. Gently oaky. Some mineral and medicinal notes. Perfectly developed. Medium-fullish, balanced palate, but a little bit hollow in mid palate. Good length. Same aromas as on nose. Very classic, but a bit light-footed, as many red 2014 Burg.

Volnay is quickly becoming my go-to red Burgundy village because of its relative affordability. The wines of Pousse d’Or today apparently have zero resemblance to the ones made by the legendary Gerard Potel but this was a delicious wine all the same. Made in a charming style with clean and candied red fruits. Texturally full and lush, it’s a wine that draws you in.

Burgunday-Tastings Around Town (K&L Wines, San Francisco and San Francisco Wine Trading Company): Even ruby. First bottle not a charm-corked. Back up bottle floral with medium body, excellent feel, dark cherry fruit, finishing soil and moderate tannin. Some oak crept in at the very end, but on the whole, this struck me as less woody than Pousse d'Or has often been. Very good, but perhaps denser and less lithe than I'd like for Volnay.

This is so good. Classic Burgundy Volnay 1er Cru. Lots of bright red fruits, perfect acidity. Will be great for many more years.

Knightsbridge Annual Holiday Burgundy/Champagne Tasting and Sale (Northbrook, IL): Tasting, brief note. Red fruit start-to-finish. Good nose, less forthcoming on palate. Reserved and backward vs previous times tasted, I'd suggest leaving this until 2024 or later, but lots of stuff here, with 90+ potential.

Quatuor inédit en Côte de Beaune - Les Grands Jours de Bourgogne (Tonnellerie Damy - Meursault): Tasting, brief note. Bottled 2 weeks ago. Fat, lush fruit-driven start with black and blue berries. Gets rather firm by the finish, making it seem slightly awkward right now, but with good raw materials and most likely also good potential for its level.
