decanted 3h before drinking. Dark ruby color, nice fruity bouquet with berries some notes of tobacco. On the palate an intense mix of compote fruits, plums and some berries. Very concentrated and full bodied. On finish, strong tannins and non non-integrated acidity. Also the last sips at 4h after decanting showed these symptoms of youth. Too young for now, great expectations from 2028 on. Or decant well before drinking.

Decanted 2+ hours ahead of seared Kalbi flank steak, potato salad, grilled asparagus, and mixed salad. Brooding purple-crimson color. Nose brings overpowering pipe tobacco, mint, eucalyptus, cherry pie, and some funky forest floor. The palate is large, square, and supple, bringing a juicy core of bright red fruit (red cherries and ripe raspberries) mixed with dark plums, blackberries, bitter dark chocolate, strong coffee, and some scattered cloves, anise, and fire pit ash. The finish is an extended tannic wall that is more pronounced without food, so drink 2025-2035. Still, this was enjoyable with our meal now. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 92.

Reading the reviews here I decanted 3 hours and drank over the next hour. I tasted after an hour & 45 minutes and it tasted like a Left Bank wine. Quite tannic and closed. Even though the Cabernet Sauvignon is only 3% it seems more. This is a very Left Bank style StE. It’s very good but not as soft as I prefer. I will try another bottle in a year. Still very good. There is lots of nice chocolate, tobacco & earth notes.

Full bodied; traditional and modern styling; high quality real cork with no saturation.
It's coming back around towards it's initial (2017) dark fruited, smoky, volcanic profile that is a bit like a blend of St Emilion and Pauillac. Stewed fruit, cigar, game, red pumice, etc. Reductive on PnP, but a bit flabby and milky with 24 hours of air. In 2023 would serve with 2-4 hours air to hit sweet spot. ~92
Ouvert et passé en carafe, c’est mieux. Note de novembre s’applique et je peux confirmer que ce vin se montre à son meilleur en accompagnement d’un repas. Devrait bien tenir. 92-93

This definitely needed 2-3 hours of aeration in a wide base decanter. Very closed off at first with drying tannic finish. However, the dark red and blue fruit emerged in hour 2 and the savoury layers of olive, mint and cocoa added complexity. Good balance and paired well with roast chicken, mash and sautéed green beans.

2 ans depuis dernière bouteille, a changé. Ouvert puis passé en carafe. Robe grenat.

Excellent double decanted 1 hour ahead of time and consumed with a filet mignon dinner. Also had a 1999 Chateau Lafite Rothschild for comparison. Both were excellent.

This is a baby and I wouldn’t touch this again for atleast 5 years or with an extended decant. Followed throughout the night and at this point not stylistically what I like to look for.
Massive fruity nose of plums and dark stewed fruit, raw meat, some oak, and a speck of earthy tones. Tight body all around but a balanced structure pokes through with a nice graininess to it and an attractive equilibrium of acid, fruit, and tannin. 91/92 today but clearly many points of upside from here. Quite a good QPR with patience

This Merlot-dominated, opaque crimson wine was Vinturi-decanted and serially sampled over three hours, during which time it continued to evolve. Flaunting ripe black and red currant fruit that is accented with bittersweet chocolate, savory herbs, graphite and pipe tobacco, it is a full-bodied Saint-Émilion with excellent freshness, seamless alcohol (despite being listed as 15%), well-integrated oak and plentiful silky-textured tannins. Impressively dense on the mid-palate and lengthy on the back end, this is a hedonistic wine that should get even better with additional cellaring. Drink 2024-2040.

Lush, ripe, ripe, opulent and fruity, the wine exudes espresso, plum, vanilla, dark red pit fruits, flowers, herbs and smoke in its perfume. Elegant, silky, plush and fresh, give it 3-4 more years in the cellar and it will be drinking just fabulously.

Opened it up for several hours then poured a glass. Black as night. Cigar box, vanilla, roses and raspberry. The first sensation are the tannins but they don’t attack. They fold away into a lush mouthful of dark red fruits, forest floor and chocolate. Really in a nice spot which I did not anticipate. I only bought a few and need to hunt down som more. This will develop as it ages but nice noe.

One last bottle from my fave-dealer, on the label 15% AbV, always a cause to be sceptical about, pnp, great nose of ripe voluptuous fruit, plums, red fruit, herbs, forest floor, good grip on the palate right from the start, ripe, dense, fullbodied fresh mouthfeel, savoury plums, brambleberry, orange zest, really great balance that young, this high class crowd pleaser will improve over the next decade for sure, **(*-***+?), around 90,91(+)

Really clear cherry, fine grained spice, and a little earth on both the nose and palate. Grippy tannins, fuller body. Lengthy finish with nice complex spice.

Saturday Bordeaux Tasting at K&L: Nose of pure date, fig loaf. Some red fruit poking through. On the palate, this is a full bodied wine, with noticeable glycerol from the 15% alcohol. Medium plus tannin, just medium on the acidity though. Vanilla and baking spices on the finish.
To my personal taste, this seems a little heavy handed, but I can appreciate it as a good example of the style they were aiming for, and I could also see enjoying it a lot in a given context. I'm also not sufficiently familiar with the chateau to know whether it will calm down with age.
Already deceptively easy to drink, the wine is soft, polished, medium-bodied, elegant and fruity with a great core of ripe, plums and cherries. You can enjoy this today, although it is still primary, or give it another 5 years for more secondary nuances.

Still very very young, notes of yeast that vanished on 2nd day. Powerful wine, but not structured yet. I wonder if this will really age well, as the acidity is quite subdued. Got a case of 12, next bottle planned in 2-3 years, let's see..

Better freshness coming out of Saint Emilion (Actually two locations: UGCB in New York (1/2018) and in Saint Emilion (12/2017)): Like Clos Fourtet, here we have a Grand Mayne in 2015 that is far better than either the 2009 or the 2010, although a bit more “fiery” than the Clos Fourtet, tasted just before. I recall trying a 2005 with owner Jean-Antoine Nony a couple of years ago, at his home, and we both agreed that it was marked a bit too much by the oak, or at least exuded drying tannins. But the 2015? A different story: It is juicy and round, and follows in the footsteps of their excellent 2014, which was one of my favorite Saint Emilions in that price bracket. Nony explained how consultant Louis Mitjavile, François's son, has helped to make the wines more elegant and refined. “We have made an effort to accentuate freshness over richness,” Nony said – and it shows. With the 2015 we are seeing again the style of wine that made the 1998 so darn appealing.

What an offering for 2015, Grand Mayne has not been on my radar and glad to have encountered it. Possesses a sense of weight and harmony. Bright acidity juxtaposed with dark fruit, earth, herbs, leather. The finish is long and animal with bacon fat and black fruit. Ready to drink with substantial air, and will develop for decades. Excellent value at ~$35-40USD on release.

2015 Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux Tasting: Excellent offering from Grand Mayne. Rich and creamy textured with tons of spiced blue fruits. The palate is nicely balanced between the brooding dark fruits (dark cherry and ripe plum) and the fine meshed tannins with the fruit that takes center stage. Delicious but perhaps lacking in a multi-dimensional personality, at least in this stage.

Welcome to Merlot Al Dente #Bdx15 - and other tales from Saint Emilion (Bordeaux, actually tasted during en primeur week): Here is a case where I was a bit more impressed by the eclat of the 2014 vintage, which had higher acidity. Still, this is very good. Quite cool blue fruit, fresh and rather bright, too. There is a headiness to this, marked a touch by oak-derived spice, but not overdone, well integrated, and time in bottle should tame the tannin and give this a promising future for your cellaring. 90-92

Silky, plush, concentrated and showing a lot more depth than I ever recall tasting at Grand Mayne, this wine has lush, polished curves for tannins, a wealth of sensuous ripe berries and licorice and a splash of liqueur in the finish. From 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine reached 14.5% with a pH of 3.65.
