Very dark and opaque. Clearly well made, excellent quality. Overwhelming scent dominated by coffee, leather, dark chocolate, blackcurrant, dark cherry. A fair amount of oak, which is well integrated. Velvet texture. If you like the style (a nod to Napa), then this is for you. Decanted for 3 hrs. Almost certainly has further aging potential. One to have with food though….in this case, rolled sirloin.

Strong fruit aromas of cassis and blackberry along with parchment, leather and cedar, yet the palate is lean and savory adding some mocha and bitter herbs. Really good stuff. Perfect for red meats. Might add more tertiary notes but no harm in drinking now with decant.

Decanted and notes from 15 minutes later. Black in the glass. On nose, black cherry, cassis, leather/tobacco (savory), and sweet cherry. On palate, similar flavor profile - full body, medium acidity/ tannins and very long finish. Delicious wine. Really enjoyed this - curious how this will age. 93-94 range. Would buy again.

Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (EBCC): Double blind. Candied cherry, licorice and blueberry notes to start. Medium-bodied with black fruit flavors on the palate. Pine and earthy notes show up as it opens in the glass. (R&D)

Extremely dark. Intensely aromatic: fruit, berries, coffee. Dense, thick. You can chew this wine at first. Aromas and coffee on the palate. A bit drying. Ripe tannins. Tannins, dryness and a very slight bitter note give length. Aromas stay shortly. Just a slightly watery impression.

Dense and luscious, fruity flavours led the opening, fresh and delicious, rich and broad, plum, dark berries, with some violet and red florals. Mid-palate shows classic cassis, m+/full body, ripe and fine grained tannins, running super smooth and balanced. Long finish with cedar, tobacco and dark chocolate notes. A wonderful wine, a wonderful vintage on right bank.

Plum, black raspberry, black currant, spice, and a kiss of sweet cedar, this is entering into a wonderfully accessible drinking window that offers a nice dollop of modern succulence that flows effortlessly with a balanced frame of classicism. Finishes appropriately dry but with a rounded mouthfeel that adds to the feeling of measured lusciousness. Medium+ bodied. A hint of bitter chocolate adds interest.
This is one of those “Hey, who could complain?!” kinds of wines. It’s not Jeopardy!, but it’s a fun spin or two on Wheel of Fortune. Drink now and over the next 5+ years.

Bordeaux masquerading as good California wine. Follow on note. While very California in style I found little to tell me this was a Bordeaux. Having said that it is an excellent wine, not big and bold and in your face as one might expect and from that perspective you can say it's Bordeaux. Balanced, expressive palate, nice well integrated tannins. I do think that many California and Bordeaux lovers will find this wine interesting from a neutral sort of way. Unfortunately, I don't drink sufficient Merlot based wines to make that comparison. Sorry. Worth trying.

This was not the first time for me To drink this vintage of this Icon wine Roc de cambes is going under the rador for many winelovers that I know Purely Merlot Some prominent oak on the nose reveals that this is not a wine that has to wait To be poured Not at this time You will not be disappointed when you taste it Lovely dark fruit Plums Black Current and tannins that screams Hold your horses Last for a while in your mouth Well Buy it My suggestion Peck
Part of a Merlot night at a NYC restaurant. All the wines were opened, but not decanted, for at least 45 minutes before pouring. Most of our group had various versions of Paella. My first bottle of this vintage, and for me, it was a toss up which I liked better, this or the 2010 Pedestal. Slightly bigger than the Pedestal, with a longer finish. Actually very similar, it really tasted like a younger version of the 2010 Pedestal. Despite coming from very different parts of the world.

This is the Moment» likevel imponerende.

Pnp, a little tight at beginning. Turned to a big surprise after one hour breathing. Clean and pure flavour, cassis, dark plum, moderate cedar, red floral and vanilla in m++ finish. Concentrated with strength, super smooth and supple tannins, well balanced between alcohol warm and dense fruity notes in the core. Unbelievable good with price under NZ$100, can beat many classe grand crus.

Sehr langer Abgang. Trotz seiner Jugendlichkeit bereits jetzt hervorragend.
This is like some vintages of PC for half the price. Very French, has a pronounced spine of iron/graphite balanced by dark plum/cherry fruit. Well structured, balanced, and a pleasure to drink, tannins are polished but with grip, give it plenty of air time to really appreciate.

Wet earth, spearmint, licorice, cocoa and plums smell and taste great. The wine is silky, polished and rich, there is volume and freshness that drives home the fruity qualities in the finish. This is the best Roc de Cambes ever produced.

Tasted after the 2014. More concentration and depth. Spicy, rich fruit, generous and layered. Nice tannic structure - very polished and refined, still giving good grip and definition. Very well balanced already. Excellent. 93-94+

91+ pts

Spicy, mineral driven, earthy, dark berry focused nose with a structured, full bodied, powerful, concentrated, fresh, tannic wine. This definitely needs time in the cellar to be fun to drink.

Blind Tasting - Bordeaux red varieties, single or blend, mid price range MZ$60-100 (Forrest Hill, Auckland): all mellowed, clean and dense flavours, full body, a little lighter than the Substance CS, I guess it's Villa Maria Reserve, which always performs well in our blind tastings. voted #2 by me, and #2 by group.
