My 7/24/2020 TN just got vindicated...!!! Rather fresh, tobbaco-leaf and sous-bois notes intermingle with a hint of fruits. Added complexity thanks to my buddy, Bret.
Solid garnet/ruby color with a slight brick on the edges. An interesting wine, to me - more so than the 2000 Croux de Beaucaillou I had last night (on a mission to drink my wines regardless of whether it's a feast or Thursday). None left. Will buy 2019 to share TN's in 2052 (I plan on being a sprite 90 years old then).

Well, I may have been overly optimistic about the longevity prospect of this one (or bottle variation may have crept in). This go-around all is in place still, but starting to fade. See my previous TNs on this wine over the years. All that notwithstanding, the wine is a very enjoyable experience still.

This took two days to finally open and soften. But worth the wait in the end. Perfect cork only 3/8 run on the cork. Nose of earth, damp forest floor and cedar. Initially it was very reticent but after 48 hours open the tannins s had smoothed and some straightforward blackberry fruit emerged. Overall pleasant but not complex and finish is only a few seconds. I only bought one at a store's clearance sale so have no other history with the vintage.

Still fantastic! I have tried at least 10 different vintages of Cantemerle, and 1999 is by far the best (followed by 1989 and 1996). It's ironical that the chateau had problems selling this vintage because Parker rated it 79 points...
This textbook mature Bdx will have all you want for at least three more years: Earth, forest floor, leather, cassis, cedar and tertiary notes with sweet tannins and nice acidity. Enjoy!

Tyvärr sista flaskan i lådan.

Delicate aroma of blackcurrant and pepper, obvious Bordeaux with some age. The wine was served blind. Most guessed top Growth from 89/90 and that made sense due to a very developed bottle. Very drinkable now and a Perfect bottle. Well balanced but slightly short. Consider on top now.

Wow - textbook Bordeaux! Drinking beautifully now. The nose is really stunning, frankly the best Cantemerle nose I've experienced. Earth, fruit, a hint of mint and then you get more forest floor and leather. The palate has gained weight and softened since last tried. This really coats your mouth filling it with plenty of fruit restrained by ample but supple tannins and acidity. They say there are no great wines, just great bottles, well, this was the best Bordeaux of the year for me - a total surprise.

Slight brickish color at rim, bouquet is understated fruit and cedar. On the palate tannins are chalky, with good acidity. A mature Bordeaux. Not likely to get better but not in danger either.

Disappointing wine. In appearance, firm mid-ruby, but lacking any sheen. The bouquet was similarly underwhelming: mature but tired, flat and dull, with cassis, red berries and barnyard. To taste, no more than medium-bodied, but well-balanced, with appropriate acidity and tannin. The flavours of blackcurrant and plum were decidedly weak and uninvolving, however, and faded quickly; underlying graphite and herbaceous notes. A perfectly satisfactory mid-weight claret, but utterly devoid of charisma or charm.

teglstensfarvet. let grumset. røde bær, cedertræ, tobak i duften. tanninerne er der stadig. Klassisk Bourdeaux. Og ikke min kop te. Lidt for streng og kedelig, på trods af dejlig kompleksitet i smag/duft.

A really pleasant surprise I must say! Had this served blind, and no doubt a cab based Bordeaux. Really nice on the nose, with pencil shavings, barnyard, smoke, some leather, cedar and cassis. Good red and mature fruit (black currant) and nice acidity. Everything in the right place and well integrated and mature. A really nice example of a mature Bordeaux that tastes as it should taste. This was delivering much more than one would expect, given the classification on the Château. However, this seems to be the case with Cantemerle in general. I enjoyed this wine allot, and will try to get my hands on some more. It’s drinking really well right now.(91 - 92)

I was a little concerned that the 1999 Chateau Cantemerle would be past its best, but the nose was rich upon uncorking. In appearance, there was a good firm red colour with no signs of bricking. The wine was rich and smooth on the palate and held its vigour throughout. Slightly sweet, with rounded tannins, the Cantemerle was highly enjoyable. Another 11 bottles to go but this will now be my regular wine for friends coming over during the next 6 months or so.

Late Jun 2010: deep red color; first I smelled and sensed not much; then my wife said: "interesting wine" and it seemed I had been sleeping and now was wide awake: a first layer of cassis, spices, blueberry and cherry was accompanied by a second one largely consisting of chocolate mingled with pure Amarena cherry; on the palate a little sticky; medium body; some tannins.

Very consistent with the last bottle I had a month ago. However, this bottle seemed a little more balanced. It's possible to drink now but it will be much better in 3 to 5 years. Dark purple with coffee, blackberry, a touch of smokey meat and a slightly vegetal finish. I'm sticking to my 87 rating, however this could be a 90 in five years, (and I'm willing to wait.)

Dark purple… Right out of the bottle slightly meaty, a touch vegetal and a sulfuric nose. A little too much acid for the fruit and tannin. Thirty minutes later - This is definitely a Bordeaux: coffee, cassis, blackberry, and a touch of meat. The sulfur is mostly, but not completely, gone. Tannins, acid & fruit are beginning to come into balance… still a little astringent on the finish. The more time this spent in the decanter, the better it got. Right now, 87 and potential to improve with age.

CAme across this accidentaly at the BA lounge. Prob open for 30mins. Nice and round. Not much nose but still enjoyable withought any sharpness or bitterness. Not a great bottle but still a nice surprise for a 1999

nice bottle of wine, smoky and spicy. surprisingly youthful, more body than other '99 from better vineyards - perhaps the mag helps?

Dark purple color. In the nose dark fruit, licorice, oak and barnyard. On the palate sweet dark fruit that becomes sour, light bodied and green tannins. The fruit is fading but the green tannins will remain. Typical for the vintage? Not that impressive.

Good aroma - red fruit and leather. Initially smooth followed by a hit of well integrated tanin. Oak subtle allowing fruit to come through. Fresh and lively - drinking well.

Plum and coffee character follows through to a medium-bodied palate, with light tannins and a firm finish. Best after 2003. 33,080 cases made. 'JS

Dark ruby color. Dark fruit in the nose. The palate shows dark fruit and a lot of bitterness. Drying in the end.

Coming along nicely. Wait a couple more years to start sucking these up.

Much better than bottle the night before. Sweet fruit and leather upfront. Nice loamy and gravel nose and persistent on the finish. Good balance and good structure.

Raspberry and seedy nose. Quite tannic and bitter orange notes. Good earthy and gravelly notes, withdrawn fruit though and short finish. Nice with food.

Dark color with slightly orange edge. Spicy, coffee smell. Taste of coffee. Opens after a little time with hints of black cherries. Short, somewhat astringent finish.

Dark purple…
Right out of the bottle slightly meaty, a touch vegetal and a sulfuric nose.

Full deep red with rich aroma of strawberry and briar. Forward flavors of sweet red fruits. Excellent - especially for near term drinking. 1/02
