If you pop and pour this one instead of breathe/decant, you did this wine -easily a 90- a disservice . STILL WAY YOUNG & NEEDS LOTS OF AIR. The Schild is a gorgeous, lush, full-bodied mouthful of a wine. First introduced to the 2008 vintage thanks to the inclusion in the WS ranking, picked up the 2009 based on the prior year's reputation. Powerful nose of dark fruit, heavy on black cherry in particular. That core of dark fruit is accompanied by chocolate, pepper and hints of tobacco. A chewy mouthful made more intense by big, soft tannins that add complexity of structure. Heated finish that lasts a good 45 seconds. Great wine, super well made. Sadly my last bottle in the cellar.

Dark inky purple/ruby color, big full body - big aromas and forward full flavors of black and blue berry fruits, overtaken by a layer of metallic mineral, a layer of black cherry with hints of vanilla, and spice on a full lingering tongue coating tannin finish.

Spectacular nose of candied fruit, red berries and plums. Lush, silky tannins wrap a big, fruity juice that is highly enjoyable. Not much terroir happening here, but a really well-made wine that shows some chocolate, pepper and spices. Long finish that stays for close to a minute. Great PV.

This is a massive, ball-tearing wine with high density and lots to dissect.
Aerated into a decanter for 15 minutes before pouring into Bordeaux stems. Presents as dense red-violet with slow, thick legs and a clear rim. There was some fine and coarse sediment at the bottom of the bottle. The nose is a round, knotted ball of intense scents. It seems like you can find any quality you want to in this nose. Various things that were mentioned included primary red and dark fruits (raspberry candy, plum, and cassis); signs of maturity such as leather and tobacco; woody notes (vanilla, medium toast, and cedar); as well as sweet red and purple flowers.
It isn't quite as complex on the palate. The attack and midpalate are a little muddled, with red raspberries and pomegranate, purple flowers, and the occasional hit of tobacco. The body is full, and the acidity is medium-medium(+). Tannins are very well-integrated, soft, and round, giving this a mature structure. The finish was medium-length, and smacked of creamy milk chocolate. It seems to be a very good example of Barossa Shiraz.
This wine comes off as less-than-precise, but still complex. Dense, but somewhat unstructured at this stage. We've had comparable wines that were cheaper than this one (take, for example, Jemrose Cardiac Cuvee) and delivered the same experience. Even if the QPR is not amazing, this is still a quality offering. We'll call it "good-to-excellent," 89/100.

Good, albeit pretty one-dimensional. Some tar and bacon on the nose. Fruit is there but it is a bit hot and has no secondary characteristics. Tannins weak and uninteresting. Nothing on the finish but some heat.

PNP as the second bottle of the night following a Justin Cabernet. Probably needed at least 30 mins of air but the nowe of fruits & spices was very nice, although it still had a strong alcohol note and it showed on the glass. Medium to heavy palate, closed initially but got better (fruitier and more balanced) with air. Tannins are well integrated and it has a lengthy finish. Much better and balanced on day 2.

Gotta admit, this one really surprised me and turned around quite a bit from my tasting nearly 18 months ago. Which either means my tastes have changed, the bottle was flawed or the bottle was in a sleepy phase. Whatever the case, I appogize for my rant back in 2012. This one had a deep purple dark fruit color. Explosive nose of spice, anise, bramble. Continuity flows to the palate and thru medium plus finish. Very nice effort. Totally surprised me. Maybe my expectations were too low. I would say grab a bottle of the 2009 if you can. Nice QPR.

Very deep purple-ruby, black core. Developing medium aromas of plum, blackcurrant, gingerbread, tobacco and wood notes. Dry-off-dry, medium acidity, medium-medium(-) tannins, high alcohol and medium(+) body. Medium(+) flavors of blackberries, chocolate-covered cherries, soft pepper. Rich glycerine-like texture, mouth-filing. Balanced and integrated. Good length with voluptuous finish, acidity adds to quaff-ability :-).

Opened an hour before dinner of bbq sausages. Tried first in Riedel zin glasses and switched to syrah glass 1/2 hour later. Our first sips were fantastic and then oxidation prompted me to switch glasses and that was a good move. It was starting to lose its fruit backbone as we finished the bottle. Have two more bottles and will drink within a year.

Decanted for 2 hours. At first this was very delicious with beautiful aromas and taste of red and blue fruit. In the second hour the wine lost most of it's fruit and became raunchy and rustic. I've never seen a wine do that.

Um, how can I say this? You have about a one hour window to drink this wine and even then it won't be very memorable. Aereated, decanted, rebottled. Nothing helped. Strong fruit scents on the nose. Lack of excitement in the middle and a forgettable finish. The first hour of this wine was good up to the finish. It had considerable heat that made for unpleasant finish. Finish mellowed in next hour. Then everything fell apart. Not buying again.

Decanted 1 hour and rebottled. Lots of black cherry and plum on the nose. On the palate this is quite full bodied with the same dark cherry and plum fruit profile. It is quite ripe and jammy. A little bit over the top and one dimensional for me. Not much complexity and just a little hot towards the back end. This is still quite good and reasonable for $20 if you enjoy this style of wine. Lush and flavorful, tending towards the red fruit side. Popped and poured. Opaque dark ruby purple color; very aromatic, with tons of cherries and red plums on the nose; lush, almost sweet cherry and red plum flavors, with vanilla, spices and a touch of black pepper; smooth, well-integrated tannins and a great finish, ending in tangy cherries. Went perfectly with pot roast, mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes, and much appreciated by all.

Wine Tasting @ Marc's Apartment (Chicago, IL): This was too young to drink now, I would suggest leaving this bottle alone for another six months before opening. Tight, grapey nose with heat present. Palate wasn't showing too much at the moment. Dark red fruits, tannins and hot finish.

This seems to be drinking well from the start. Soft tannins, not too high ABV, a pleasant bottle though still a little closed in. I will look forward to tomorrow after it's had a day to breathe and maybe will open up nicely. Stay tuned

Disappointed. Fetish GSM is a much better wine than this.

Super sweet cherry with really unpleasant melted-plastic aftertaste. Not recommended.

Consumed at at cellar temp: 60°-65° F. Friends don't let friends drink red wine at room temp!

Herbal nose of sage, thyme and rosemary. Dark red and blue fruit, dark plum, blueberry. Flavors of plum, blueberry, spice and roasted meat. It carries a sweet, ripe finish of blueberry, black cherry, red raspberry, cola and white pepper.

Not great notes as this was a few days ago. Nice nose, medium to heavy palate. Very fruity. Nice long finish. For $15 great QPR.

Not nearly as open and complex as the 2008. Perhaps needs time, but recall that 2008 was wonderful even young.

Nice nose of earth, cocoa, pencil shavings. Flavors of dark and dried fruits, cocoa, gaphite, earth, subtle anise. Tannins are soft, round and not very present even when popped and poured. Overall, easy drinking and excellent QPR.

Stay tuned

Balance with nice fruit and spices. Medium finish and should age well.
