Outstanding Barolo, consistent with my previous notes. Opened to breathe for 2h, and decanted at Leña in LA. Huge nose of violets, roses, and vanilla rolling out of the decanter. All the classic nebbiolo traits on display, deep red berries, vanilla, baking spices, tar, still plenty of tannins (!), and a long finish with balanced acid. A wow experience, it evaporated during the appetizer course, featuring wagyu carpaccio. WOTN. 95/96

Decanted for Garth's b-day. Wow! This is up there with the best Barolo's I've enjoyed, pretty amazing with a huge fragrant nose of roses, cedar, spices, tar, and on the palate just a crashing wave of bright red fruit, more spices, chewy tannins, black pepper, graphite, mineral. Singing in her prime! 94/95

Opened to breathe at 10 am for a dinner party at Garth’s. Still monolithic, could have opened it even earlier in the morning. This is a big, intense Barolo, consistent with my previous note. This will benefit from more years in the cellar. 94/95

At the winery, benchmarked against the '13 crus and the '09 riserva. The bottle was opened in the same morning and given ample opportunity to breathe slow ox. This '08 riserva is awesome. Complex perfumy nose, an interplay of classic roses and violets, stands out 1" from the glass.

At the winery, from Coravin. It was fun to benchmark this reserve against the younger '12 and '09 crus from the vintner. Today it seemed less expressive than the '09 big d big. Excellent of course, but not ready. Otherwise consistent with my previous notes.

Pnp at the winery. Soft complex nose, camphor nose lots of perfume. On the palate, medium bodied mature Barolo. Lots of complexity and red berries, but the tannins have softened. Still with nice acid on the finish. I've picked up a few bottles for the cellar.

(Decanter Italy Tasting 2016) :: Lovely perfume, with essential Nebbiolo traits but also quite raisiny, with touches of smoke and dry spices. 7 years in barrel will do that to Nebbiolo. Opulent mouthfeel; rich, well structured.

(aka Piedmont... and Veneto); 11/16/2018-11/30/2018 (Alba, Guarene, Modena, Barolo, La Morra, Lake Garda .....): This wine tasted a touch off to me and reading the previous note it's quite possible it was. Or maybe just a tough comparison point coming on the heels of the Tre Tine from Rinaldi. This tasted much more alcoholic. Still has the secondary notes to go with the fruit. But just not quite as 'all together' of a wine. Also a coravin pour from Barololand.
