An amazing bottle, just keeps getting better and better, gaining depth and complexity year after year. This demonstrates why Craig Jaffurs (at while he still owned and operated the winery) has been called time and again the "master of California Syrah". All culled from great vineyards and made with a Midas touch. Really showcases both the fruit and care in the winery. Sadly, our last bottle of this vintage and vineyard.
This is a mighty fine wine. It's in a really good place right now, but I will let my last bottle rest for another year as there is just a wee bit of tannin left to be resolved. Great vintage.

Right in line with my notes from last August. If you like the older Jaffurs house style, you’ll love these. Big, extracted, loads of flavor, but in balance. Saxum ish.

Blue and black fruits, cola, clove, tobacco, pepper. Deep, complex and supremely balanced. Could be mistaken for classic the ‘07 or ‘08 vintage, but with less alcohol showing. Killer QPR for $42.

I wasn't a Jaffurs member when the epic vintages in the late 2000's were released, but I have to think this one would be right up there with them. Intense nose of blueberries, chaparral and brown sugar. On the palate, it has fabulous vibrancy, intensity and length. The finish goes on and on, with an appealing liqueur-like quality to it that reminds me of Chambord. It's drinking great now, but man...this will be even more special once it settles out a bit more. My score might be a tad low.
Lovely wine. Enticing nose of blackberry and currant fruit, cola and stone/mineral. Fairly full-bodied, there’s generous amounts of sweet dark fruit, baking spices, and herbs with some pepper popping up on the finish. Mellow but firm tannins give it a nice backbone, and the bright acidity rounds it out nicely. Just a beautiful wine.

Similar notes as my initial tasting on 12/24/17. Very easy drinking for a relatively young wine, which seems to be a hallmark of the 2014 syrah lineup from Jaffurs. (95+)

Consumed over two nights. The wine received a lot of air without ever letting up in intensity. This is drinking nicely already, but it is packed for the long haul. Exotic nose of blue and black fruit, clove, and violets that carry through on the palate, along with a tantalizng citrusy streak. I am being conservative with my score because this will only get better from here. (95-97)
As an aside: I find it puzzling that Jeb Dunnuck's reaction to this wine was somewhat muted in relation to the 2013 BN Syrah from Jaffurs (which he scored a full 3 points higher than the 2014). Having opened a 2013 just a few nights ago, I find them to be different but essentially of equal stature, the 2013 being a bit more elegant, while the 2014 struck me as a slightly bigger, more muscular wine.

Great wine. Sort of a throwback to some of the better Jaffurs’ vintages of ‘06/‘07/‘08. Big floral nose. Lots and lots of anise/licorice. Dark fruits, tar, ash, violet, white pepper. Lots of structure, dense. Long, lingering finish. Great cool climate Syrah. Give it about an hour decant. 96 might be low. This is my kind of wine: dark, dense, loads of structure and flavor. Did not fade with air. Day two much more blue fruited.

Dark Blue and purple fruits. Hint of tartness on the finish, good acid balance. This bottle would have continued to improve. No hurry.

Seemed somewhat more ripe than previous bottles. Enjoyable, but seems to be rounding off, heading toward the backend of the drinking window.

Prime time. Savory, characteristic cool climate Syrah notes. Classic Jaffurs. Drink or hold.

Rich, bold, and dark. From nose to finish this is an outstanding Syrah.

One of the better Bien Nacidos in the last 10 years or so. Loads of dark fruit, cola, licorice and pepper.
