Light gold in color, the classic riesling petrol dominates the nose with ripe apple taking over once it hits the palate, subtle floral notes and white peach, too. Not very complex, but the finish lasts for miles. Fortunately, the cork was in good shape and easily removable with a corkscrew. Very enjoyable with some chicken Tikka, palak paneer and naan.

Herbs (mint??), citrus, dill, white flowers, petrol, mango, and white peach. Good blend of acidity and Spätlese sweetness, but not too sweet to drink by itself.

Another oxidized bottle, which was apparent from the top of the cork where mold had grown from wine seepage. Still, it's a drinkable wine, albeit dark copper-brown and tasting of baked apples. Tastes like a good hard cider. Just not what we want with Thai food. So, we opened another bottle, which had a clean cork, and so the wine inside is as it should be.

I've found that the corks in these older, Licht Rieslings tend to be stuck/glued in the neck (from the residual sugar in the wine, I assume). Plus the corks are often dry and crumbly, so an ah-so works best (but still need to work it along the sides and avoid pushing the cork in. Light, straw color. Petrol, lime, dried dill, and tropical fruit aromas. Honey, honeydew melon, melon rind, sweet grapefruit, and underripe mango on the palate. Fairly long finish.

Similar notes as last time, but this bottle was ready to go after popping, Cork was in decent condition but ah-so or similar is recommended. This bottle could easily age another 5-10 years.

Note: I use the recommended scale, so 85 represents a very good wine.
As suggested by 90, an excellent/outstanding bottle. The fact that it was a Spatlese was evident from the beginning. Excellent balance, almost rich flavors. Faded just a little over a few hours.

Tonight's bottle was outstanding and complemented our seafood pasta. Lime, petrol, almond extract, tropical fruit, and spring flowers. The sweetness and freshening acidity really blended beautifully tonight.

Amazing how what was once a very simple young Riesling becomes after 20 yrs in the cellar. Lovely mature Riesling, with petrol, tropical fruits, and even hints of blue cheese. Good acidity keeps it fresh and zippy, despite the residual sugar. Delicious by itself, or with spicy food (Korean octopus and kimchee dumplings).

Somewhat simple (age does add some complexity) but most definitely delicious Riesling. Exactly what you’d expect from a good value Riesling with a couple of decades of cellring. Worked wonders with Chicken rendang.

Enjoyed at Local Republic in Lawrenceville, Georgia with a variety of small plates. It was excellent from the fruit and floral nose to the palate with layers of fleshy fruit, some stone fruit hints, a metallic tinge and then a light acidity that enlivened the entire experience.
It was a beautiful and flexible beverage to pair with a wide variety of foods from fried chicken livers and jalapeno line fried cauliflower to sweet potato fritter with arugula.

Not as good as the other bottles that I've had. This one comes across as watered down pineapple juice. Decent acidity, but underwhelming tropical fruit flavors and no citrus flavors.

It is the prominent acid that drives this lovely white. It is the petrol that identifies it. It is the 8% alcohol that makes it so refreshing. It is the crumbling cork that authenticates it. And it is the 25 dollar price tag for an enjoyable bottle aged 20 years that makes it so amazing.

Aromas of petrol, peach, apple and mineral. Flavors of apple, grape, mineral and a touch of slate. Ends with a 20 second finish with apple notes. Aging quite nicely and tasting quite young still.

With Mah_Po tofu for the triple date night via Zoom. We provided the other families with a bottle each, so we were all drinking the same thing. I don't think this is the epitome of complexity, but it has a velvety richness that has come with age. The corks are getting dicey, so a cork puller or Durand is a good idea, but one participant did fine with a corkscrew. The sweetness is barely apparent, as the wine is quite refreshing. Same flavor profile as previous bottle, but might be getting just a bit woolier.

A bit muted at first with wool and old cellar aromas, but blew off after 30min. A rich wine but without being heavy or sweet. Flavor is lemon, yellow apple, slate, and mild gasoline in the background. Storage conditions from JJ Buckley seem great. Very pleased considering the affordable price.

Guessing at the date. Had it with a spicy curry meal. Really hit the spot. This is classic "sweet like an apple, not like a twinkie" spatlese. It has developed a golden hue, a nose of ripe apple, and a flavor like an apple that has had lemon rubbed on it to keep it fresh. Really in a beautiful place, and I would drink now rather than risk the bottle chasing nirvana.

Maybe the best bottle yet, but it was our last. Tons of acidity, tropical fruits, petrol, orange zest, and apple. Long finish. Based on this bottle, I don't see much of a downhill anytime soon. Enjoy.

Color: medium gold, green streaks Nose: overripe mandarin or clementine. Oxidized apple. Guava. Octanes. Wet stone. Cellar mold and lemon. Palate: acidity is medium, sweetness is present but not overly so. Wine is still in balance but less intense than I would have thought. May be a bottle issue Finish: medium-long
A nice set of aromas, less powerful than I would have expected but after 30 minutes of air it really sings, shedding some of the moldy notes

Pristine bottle. This was a real delight tonight with brisk acidity and firm, petrol minerality uplifting the penetrating orchard and tropical fruit. I was completely surprised by the youthful feel to this wine, if I hadn't have known what it was, I would have never guessed that it was nearly 20 years old.

I've little experience with riesling, but this is my first positive one. Drier and less viscous than previous rieslings. One thing that stood out was a pleasant secondary flavor of almond/vanilla after fully open. I asked for a riesling for someone that hates riesling. Mission accomplished. I like riesling now.
Update: opened up a bottle and whoa, it had the nose of an old wwII submarine hull...strong petroleum smell. At first I thought it was corked, but the color was right and so was the palate. After a lot of air it settled and now is just really pleasant. Need to find more reislings now...I’m hooked.

Cork bled through, a while ago based on the condition. Apple, grapefruit, lemon. good length but a bit thin. I have to tease a bit of petrol out of the nose. No complaints on the price, but I expected a bit more interest considering the age.
