Redcurrant fruit mainly, some peppercorn and something like tomato leaf. A vague incense-vanilla candle character and an equally vague leather/funk. Solid structure for such an inexpensive wine, with M to M- tannins, M acid, M body. Structure to last for a number of years still (probably longer than the actual fruit will last). Good with burgers. Good qpr for $15 and I would buy again in another moderate/cool vintage. 6.1/10

Last tried this about 3 years ago, and was more impressed by it then. Deep ruby color. Offers up earthy aromas of blackberry, leather, tobacco and bay leaf. Smooth and silky on the palate, but the dark berry and tobacco flavors lack presence or weight. It's balanced and pleasant, but unremarkable and I would start drinking them now.

Been drinking these for a while now and they couldn’t be any better. Soft dark fruit with dominate notes of plum and smoke. Nice everyday drinker for $12. 89 pts or 3.7 stars.

I agree that this tastes like more expensive wine. We'll get again. needed an hour or two to open but better on the first day then the second day. Just a great sipping wine.

Wow this baby is interesting. Day two was much better and complex, so recommend decanting if drinking in one sitting. TONS of gun flint, like a straight up firework in a bottle. Really enjoyed this wine for its earthiness, especially given the cheap price.

This gets extra credit for being under $15 and drinking like $30-$50 Medoc or Merlot-driven Right Bank Bordeaux. Ripe, rich, round, structured (dollop of Cab Sauv), and poised in the glass, this gives off a whiff of tobacco and creme de cassis in the nose and mouth before giving way to astonishingly pure Merlot flavors that suggest the best of Pomerol. What it lacks in weight, it makes up for in gentle punch. Finishes pure, dry, and certainly long enough. Will please both Old World and California/Australia palates.

Truffles, black cherries, plums, tobacco, savory bacon note. Nice acidity. Be patient with this wine: decant and drink over several hours..needs time to open up. Despite being a ripe vintage, this Hyot seems to be more classical styled then the 2010 (at this stage anyay).
Could easily age another 5-10 years. A steal at the price and far better than so many $30-50 medicore Bordeaux out there. Buy extra and sock away in the cellar.

The nose and palate announce a strong presence of Merlot. As such, I was unsurprised to find it comprises 70 percent of the assemblage. Smooth, perhaps a little too polished, nicely balanced.

Cotes du Bordeaux: Deep ruby color. Aromas of black cherries, red and black with some nice savory spices (clove, bay leaf, black pepper), with violets and charred earth. Medium-bodied with some solid grip to the tannins, medium acidity keeps it fresh. Pretty and juicy with black currants and cherries, laced with cocoa powder, dark roast coffee, some potting soil and smoky charcoal notes. It really opens up nicely with air, and could improve for a few years. Very impressive for the price. Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Deep Ruby to Deep Purple in color. Vibrant aromas of sweet blackberries, toasty espresso, and hints of leather. Ripe flavors of sweet blackberry. Interplay of tannins and acid gives it a lovely long finish. Drinking quite well already despite its youth, but could probably use 1-2 years laying down. Opened up and improved as the evening wore on.

Drank as part of blind wine tasting group. Way past its prime. The brett was absolutely overwhelming. The fruit was faded.

Assertive cherry fades to cranberry on the back end with hints of smoke and cinnamon over fine grained tannins. Without decant.

Full bodied. Tannins have softened but perhaps not enough. Improved greatly after breathing for a while.

Drinks 2-3 times its price. Ripe plum, dark chocolate, cassis, and loads of tobacco throughout. Lush, with a somewhat velvety mouthfeel.
