Tuscan WIMPS 2021 (La Trompette): Probably the underdog of today's reds on paper, but acquitted itself very well. Nicely mature rather than in any way OTH. Spicy nose, with sage to match the food. Chewy and tangy on the palate, with plenty of dark fruit and an overriding freshness.

Now in its last stage (tertiary phase), but still alive and very nice. Brick colour, fragrant, very complex (underwood and leather beneath red fruits) though with good grip and length. This bottle could have last another 4-5 years.

Bright and lucent colour and just a few signs of age. Typical scent. Loads of pomegranate and red currants and an overwhelming freshness (thanks to very good acid) as well as a hint of tobacco on the palate. Rather light bodied and straight, but with spine and a quite long finish. Improves in the glass. Food wine (e.g. roasted pork belly) Very good QPR at 12 Euros.
Selvapiana is a very reliable and fairly pricing Producer at least since three decades. Their simple Chianti never disappoints and is definitely a bargain in great years.

First one of these in two years, and it's as beautiful as ever. Absolutely knock out aromas that remind me why I fell in love with this wine with expressive honey scented flowers, heavy on the sweet graphite, fantastic cherry, pomegranate, and tar. One of the finest scents I've come across in a Chianti. Palate is intense, showing sweet cherry and pomegranate again, with a pervasive grittiness and overwhelming intensity. Feels way younger than the last bottle I had, actually. Gritty texture and dry mouth feel on the finish, with slightly more mature flavors lingering, but still pretty intense with acidity and tannin. This wine's tasting a bit better than the last, and certainly more primary. This one's begging for food. Interesting... I'm back to thinking I'll hold my remaining bottles for a bit of time. This shows no notion that it's 9 years old...

Leather and cherries on the nose, big nose. Palate is chewy with big fruit, spice, some smoky notes. This is my last bottle and it has really had a bump up in richness. No sense of being over the hill, lively, bright.

Medium depth colour transitioning from purple to claret, with no obvious age shsowing at the rim.
On the nose, it very much reminds me of the region. It's vibrant, with cherry to the fore, raspberry in the background, with a pleasant (subtle) chocolate/earth accent. Also a hint of cherry menthol (aka Tunes). I'm surprised just how vibrant the nose is at 7 years old.
Very attractive too on the palate, with quite sweet and persistent fruit, a refreshing acidity and pleasant grip to bring it back to a noticeably dry finish. Another of those wines that shines by not showing off, but doing what it's meant to and doing it well. Will seek this out again.

In glass 20 minutes. Definitely smelling a bit more mature than the last bottle three years ago, as the aromas are deeper, darker, and more integrated. Similar overall aromas though, showing pretty graphite, cherry, a floral component, mud and clay. Mid-palate is creamy and soft showing some graphite, grape candy, hibiscus flower, cherry sauce, and granite rocks that dry the mouth out. Finish is still showing some grippy drying tannins with cherries and cherry tree leafs. Minutes later I'm left with a tasty, distinct mango flavor on the palate. Good, but it has lost some of its exuberance that I really liked about it a few years ago; I hope I didn't wait too long on these. My second glass of the night wasn't quite as interesting as the first, even.

Getting even better! Leathery, smoky, lush, dark nose. Great sangiovese fruit with nicely balanced acid and a bit of spice. Still needs some time to be fully developed I think. Probably should extend its life past 2010.

Clear, bright ruby in color; Very solid to good Chianti. Just after the decant it was mute on the nose and barely better in the middle and finish. After about 30 minutes in the decant the aromas and flavors developed. It had earthy and cherry aromas and flavors. Some sour notes on the finish with interesting florals and minerals. Good balance with fine tannins. Definitely a food wine. Well-priced at under $20 and probably not a long-term hold.

I'm surprised how all over the board the scores are on this wine... 85-94 points by reputable publications, and 88 here. I really think the lower scores are missing the boat here. This is a fantastically delicious wine, especially at the price. Poured a glass and began drinking an hour later. This wine really hit its stride between 2-3 hours open. Awesome dark fruit with graphite on the nose. A little scorched earth as well. On the palate this wine is wonderfully fruity (sour cherries) and lush, but with those underlying earthy tones. Very juicy. A perfect balance of fruit and earth. This is the type of wine I love to drink. Reasonably dry on the finish, and despite what some other say, I didn't find the tannins too firm. The only disappointing aspect was that after open for 4 hours, the wine began heading down hill and losing its complexity. This isn't very long for a wine to be open, so it makes me question its ageability (though Spectator says drink through 2015). This is the only reason this is a 91 and not a 92 for me. But an awesome bottle none the less, and I will certainly be buying more!

A lovely chianti. A lot tighter and sharper compared to the 2003 I tasted yesterday. Very dark red color, Nose is dark fruit, leather. It unwound some after an hour. Good length at the end. Yum.

Deep ruby in appearance. Nose is showing stewed dark fruits, leather, tobacco and some cherry. Well balanced - very tanic at first but after a two hour decant the tannins have integrated and there is some good acid with some nice cherry, cassis, some truffle and a nice lingering finish. A very nice chianti.
