Milan Wine Event 3 - A 2014 vintage check up (Altrimenti, Milano): Maybe the best wine we rarely drink as if for some celestial reason we just never cross paths. And when we do it never fails us. Much like before and even more in this challenging of vintage of 2014 this was a Beauty. Elegant, soft not overdone or pushed and sort of led with a soft hand to deliver the maximum of what this vintage and Mother Nature gave it. Dark fruit, well managed and assimilated oak and just a beautiful wine. Not sure on longevity here and further evolution but happy to take the bet, very pretty 93+

What a beautiful wine. First one I've ever had. Best wine of the Easter dinner by far. Drank between a 21 Lucien Le Moine Bourgogne Blanc and an 06 Pontet Canet. Opened for 2hrs then decanted for another hour. Needed it for sure. Continued to open in the glass over the next hour. Loads of beautiful earthy black cherry. Clearly Sangiovese at an extremely high level. I will hold on to my other 2 bottles for at least 3 yrs , probably 5 , before I open another one. If you open one anytime soon definitely give it a lot of air as it was very thin, tight, and tannic when first opened.

Sangiovese night (Chicago, IL): Very Pergole Torte, with its delicate red fruit and silky texture. Relatively on the lighter side, with less of the raw power of a bigger vintage, and more of an acid-driven elegance. I love the floral perfume here, but the tannins on the back end suggest that a few more years is probably the right course of action.

From mag. Ready to drink. This is a much lighter style of LPT given the vintage - decanted for 2hrs+ in 2x 750ml decanters and it needed it. Wow, this was bursting at the seams - the nose was to die for. Tuscany in a glass - intense violets, dried cherry, asphalt/scorched earth, wild rosemary. The palate is more light bodied for LPT but makes up for it with juicy and bright cherry flavors with extremely fine and supple tannins. This is a wine to enjoy in youth, would not recommend aging this as it's drinking so great right now.

Pergole Torte Vertical tasting (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): Glass: Zalto Universal and Burgundy Tasted blind. Clear, youthful medium ruby color. Fine elegant nose with lots of cool red fruit, some petals, spicy. Beautiful. On the palate high acidity, fine red fruit, rose petals, spices, high, fine tanning, a bit drying. Good pressure, elegant, pure, juicy and very young. Long, fine fruity and herbaceous finish. Needs 5+ years. 93++

Pop and pour. Paired with seared duck breast. Elegantly styled red fruit with loads of cherry, spice and muddled green notes. On the palate: well balanced acidity and fruit with amazing density and length. Flavors mirroring the nose and elegantly styled tannin. Excellent.

Presents full bodied with an approachable fruit forward palate. Velvety tannins. Provoking conversation. Still, falls off quickly. Surprised it’s Sangiovese. Missing cherry. Not confused. Just outside of expectations. Geez, this reads like a mess. It’s a great wine. Drink up and enjoy it!
I might be too harsh but I expect a lot from this wine year after year. 2014 is not worth the money. It falls flat as far as this stunning producer goes.

Good Times in Seattle vol.II (84 Yesler, Seattle WA): Despite its youth, the nose is expressive and elegant with notes of plums, red cherries, strawberries, crushed rocks, licorice, herbs, and violets. The vintage is almost certainly playing into how open it is and it doesn't have the depth that stronger vintages have. The Medium/full bodied feel is elegant and poised with crisp, medium+ acidity and chalky, medium+ tannins. This is a success due to the producer. It shows a more lifted and elegant style that is alluring, but it does lack some depth that better vintages would bring.

Pnp from a magnum. Surprisingly accessible with cherry, cinnamon, rose petal and tar. Palate is silky and feminine. It has slowy opened up in the glass. A burgundian lover’s Italian wine. 92+

Fantastic wine that was a real hit for a Christmas dinner. Soft and feminine style with Perfect balance of fruit and earth. Not a traditional Italian wine, almost has some Burgundy characteristics.

Nose of wild cherry, liquorice, flowers. Very fine and expressive. Lovely attack following the nose. This wine has such a nice acidity. Elegance over power. Long. Burgundy style. Loving it.

Decanted for two hours, worked well with food, not a big wine , more good Chianti, too expensive. Still have three 2013 and 2015, will leave them alone!

After having been very unsatisfied with Montevertine IGT, it was a relieve to taste Le Pergole Torte 2014 , which Galloni said had heavy bottle variation! Taken from the winefridge and standing vertical for 12 hours and decanted for 40 min. Color deep brick red, nose spicy and loaded with dark berries, taste delicious and with a good aftertaste with soft tannins.

Stunning aromatics. The palate shows dark cherries, herbs, soft tannins and a lingering finish. It kept getting stronger as it got more air. A vintage that can be enjoyed young.

This is a wonderful bottle. Agree with others that this will be better as time moves along. Also, opened this bottle with steak, easily held it's own. Two hours later, it just keeps evolving and coming together. I will definitely be adding several of these to the cellar.

Bright red cherry along with earth, leather and varied floral notes on the nose. Medium bodied with beautiful, nuanced red cherry notes upfront, blending into a mid-body which shows a lot of depth and brings in red berry, plum and black cherry. The mid-body is stellar with complexity of fruit, balance between fruit and structural notes and nearly seamless integration into the backside. Finishes with fine grained tannins, floral notes, integrated spices and lingering earth/mineral qualities. The longer it was open the more harmonious it seemed to become, but the fruit and structure were always in balance. With three hours open, this showed the combination of depth and nuance that allows the wine to drink with a silky elegance. As impressive as this wine was tonight, it will only get better in coming years. (Ristorante Ad Hoc; Rome, Italy)

The 2014 Le Pergola Torte is sexy, suave, and excellent. Cherry, leather, cinnamon, and dried flower are lifted by just a hint of VA. Medium weight with soft elegant tannins and crisp acidity. Like a lot of the uneven 2014 Chianti vintage, I'd drink this in the medium term.

Brilliant, transparent red in the glass. Lovely nose of fresh cherries, sumptous palate with a lingering finish. One to savor slowly. Opened far too young and might have been better off to decant. The last glass the next night from the bottle left opened was far more complex and compelling.

Highly acclaimed chianti and for a good reason. Cherry, red berries, the usual flavours of a good chianti, in this case in the high brow style. The -14 is surprisingly easy to approach albeit very young. The -13 was promising and good but, as expected, clearly too young. This -14 is drinkable now but most definitely at its best in 5+ years. A good vintage to get to know this wine now anyway.

more of a red fruited version. expressive, fragrant and balanced. lacks the mid-palate and structure of best versions but will please those who like the elegant side of sangiovese, here nearly burgundian.

Just Purchased a case of the 2014 and opened a bottle to try. Upon opening it was very tight and needed decanting. Tried after one hour and saw a big difference. At hour two it was even better. Probably could of used another hour but the Pasta Bolognese wasn't going to wait. It was so enjoyable to drink. Will definitely be a wine that will be great with time.

Price does seem on the steep side but this was quite nice if a bit young. Lots of cherry fruits. And mid taste which reminds me of a fruit roll up in that more yummy style. Lots of structure and tannins that hit at the end. Very bright and just drinking quite well. Will only get better. High upside on this.

I think the previous bottle I had was possibly flawed, just got to try this again and it was nothing like the closed, boring black fruit wine that I had a few months ago, It was singing with purple and red flowers, red fruit, black fruit, minerality, just an amazing wine. Still not sure about the price of this compared to other Chianti, but only time will tell.

Tasted like this might be closing down, based on other tasting notes from late last year. This was good and had some pretty black and red fruit, but not much depth.
(edited to remove score as I think this bottle was flawed)

Italy vacation Part 1; 10/22/2017-11/5/2017 (Florence and the Tuscan countryside): Medium-deep ruby; highly aromatic, black fruit, anise, complex, youthful; palate is dense and medium-full bodied but superb high acidity that makes it superbly fresh, plenty of youthful red fruit throughout; finish is medium-Long. Just superb balance, and superb concentration, and a wonderful food wine. 94-95+.
