This was a lovely showing; red fruited and supremely elegant; hints of mint and orange peel, but still really quite primary with red currant, raspberry, and tart cherry. Super pure, elegant, ethereal and delicious. Not a powerful vintage of Montevertine, but its at age 10 and sailing along. Wish I had a few more.

Popped and poured. The 2014 Montevertine is a little shy at first but with a little air, the quality becomes undeniable. Still developing, this is a beautiful and elegant expression from Radda with notes of Bing cherry, leather, red flowers, dried herbs, ferrous minerals and subtle spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes on the nose. The finish is long and gives the impression that you’re drinking something special. While this is showing well now, this will drink very well through 2030 and likely beyond.

Brimming with confidence, doesn't need a label. You know what this is. It's stalwart Sangio - true to its core, to the estate, to the cuvee, sophisticated and deep. Barely stick your nose in and you're hit hard with a mixed bag of the stuff you expect and more - cherries and leather, mint and spruce, dates, raisins. Minerals and a scaffolded structure you gotta work through just a bit, but comes together amazingly well.

Definitely some upside here. Lip smacking 'Chianti' here. With this vintage being a challenging one, a taster can see that the winemaker did all the right things in such a difficult year. Needs a ton of air. Beautiful haunting aromatics after 1.5 hours in the decanter. I see some good upside here in the next few years if you can keep your corkscrews out of this bottle. The purity here is amazing. Bravo.

Popped and poured. Translucent garnet with scarlet component. Nose of violets, cherry, trace iodine, fine earth, leathery notes. Silky layers of pure red cherry, spicy plum fruit and earth on the palate. Refreshing acidity and smoothed, faintly dusty tannin. Longer finish of elegantly-presented piquant red cherry fruit and fine-grained soil. Beautifully balanced, graceful wine showing very well in its youth.

This is just such a beautiful wine. Light on its feet, yet with a purity of character and nuance that makes it something you just want to keep coming back to. Probably very early in its drinking window, as there is still a lot of freshness and lively red fruit. It's a wine you wouldn't necessarily notice, or be impressed by, on the first few sips, but it really grows on you (or at least me and the people who shared the bottle with us).

1 hr decant...starts quite shallow in flavor but expands over time, 30 min, more red cherry coming forward, always elegant with those white grapes adding lift. Overall a fine wine just all about elegance/balance w/ lighter fruit component than most which would garner bigger scores by most, but so good with lighter fare foods.

This bottle was short of outstanding, with a light lactic caramel note, slightly confected red-cherry aromas and generally less complexity than expected. Light in body and structure, with nice freshness and a fairly short finish. It drinks pretty well, but far from the outstanding performance it offered two years ago. Most likely not a vintage to age either.

If you tasted this blind, you'd swaer it was a good Pinot Noir in look and flavour. Lovely red fruit, plenty of depth and a great balance. Not what you'd expect from Tuscany but a deliciouis drop of wine.

Opened this bottle at my birthday dinner and didn't take any notes.
I totally agree with recent tasting notes. As often Montevertine is more on the elegant side with laser-like precision and weightless mouthfeel. Drinking well today after a while in the decanter but I will let the rest of my stash rest for a couple of years further.

Elegant, initially light wine with some density building with air. Fresh, with a subtle sweetness, medium length. Initially felt like a Pinot, over time began feeling more like a Sangiovese. Interesting and great with food.

Served in Zalto Burgundy stem. Fruit; 1018 hPa. Color is clearish garnet and ruby turning magenta at the rim with a watery meniscus. Nose is ripe with super ripe strawberries, red currants, sweet cherries. Some menthol and sage. A warm earth character come through, along with leather and pipe tobacco. Taste following suit, though not quite as brooding as the nose - strawberries here are ripe but more lifted and acid driven. More cherry, menthol, thyme, leather, and a touch of oak. Tannins here are surprisingly silky in its youth. High acid and tight structure, the finish has a nice length with leather, pipe tobacco, dried strawberries, and savory fall herbs.

Another great wine from Montevertine; beautiful, elegant, and yet the flavors linger and last; red berry fruits, anise, fennel, mint, fresh floral notes, hints of leather and a touch of tobacco on the nose; the palate is fabulous with its ethereal delivery of loads of flavor. Still my favorite wine from Chianti

Friends' Anniversary Dinner (Private Room, Caprice Restaurant, Four Seasons Hotel, Two IFC, Hong Kong): From Magnum opened several hours in advance but not decanted. Totally transparent light ruby colour. Nose is is very light, floral, hints of liquorice, rose water. Palate is very light, almost watery, but perfumed and rose-watery. Very high-toned piano notes. Quite acidic. Very light and feminine. Much too young almost to the point of pain. Quite heady, which might suggest it could put on weight and more character with 5 years more age but I doubt it and the sommelier agreed.

Opened in the bottle for 3 hours and just started to come around near the end. Deep ruby color with clear white rim. Initially very tight, acidic and tart. Tartness was eventually replaced by fresh almost super ripe strawberries, dried figs, vanilla, sweet pipe tobacco, and thyme. The acid sticks around but very silky and very elegant with long/smooth tannins. Needs a few more years but in a great spot now after substantial time open.

I had dinner with Massimo several years ago and we discussed how his Montevertine was a great take on an Italian Burgundy and this wine is no exception.
Nose of smoke, blood, iron, cherries. Palate reflective of terroir with good acid and great fruit of bright cherries. While it speaks to Sangiovese it is far more complex and expressive of an international (French) Burgundy. If there was an characteristic to define it as Italian is its finish which carries almost a full Sangiovese profile.
Love this wine and in its youth is incredible. Can't wait for a few more years to try again.

Italy vacation Part 1; 10/22/2017-11/5/2017 (Florence and the Tuscan countryside): 90+% Sangiovese. Clear light ruby; aromatic, sour cherry, lovely aromatics, spice; palate is medium bodied, medium tannins that are very approachable and fresh, not drying at all, high acid, plenty of sour cherry fruit; medium-Long finish. Very good "everyday" Sangiovese, really lovely even young, with its current strength being its elegant balance and length on the finish. 92
