90 min decant. Nose: Rich perfumed dark fruit. Palate: Dense and intense. Core of acid supporting blackberry and plum fruit, saline and licorice, gritty med+ tannic grip to spare. Looong finish. 15% Alc.
Tried this young in the name of science. I'm a Burg guy: if you told me you were pouring a Merlot-Cab Franc blend I'd have said "Meh", but this is impressive, delicious and clearly has many years of positive development to go.
I think it can be enjoyed now with a decant if you don't mind the tannins, but its made for the long haul. If I can keep my hands off them, I'll wait 3-5 years till the next one.

Really mysterious and seductive aromas with red fruit core, dark fruit peel, charcoal, exotic spice and sweet wood. Delicious full-bodied wine with packed fruit that is so concentrated that it almost literally bubbles over. Fabulous red berry fruit, light animal tones, most delicious cedar and deep saltiness that tells everything about where the wine comes from. Solid tannins that contribute to the great structure of the wine. Excellent acidity and the wine ooze freshness and delicate style, even with a higher alcohol percentage. Outstanding wine. 98 points.

Truffles, truffles and more truffles, if you're a fan of that special scent, this is your wine! More than those earthy notes, you also find a wealth of ripe, black and red plums, cherries, flowers and spice. And that's just the appetizer. It is on the palate, with its silky, velvet drench, opulent texture where the wine really shines. Full-bodied, ling and deep, this is bottled decadence. Give it at least a decade in the cellar before popping a cork.

The 2016 Tortanoy is a blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, gradually increasing the proportion of Merlot. Dark and intense bouquet of sweet dark berry fruits, cassis, blackberries. Sophisticated and tightly laced. A fruitier version of 2010. Gorgeous wine. (93/100)

Simply fabulous; a compendium of the strengths of the 1998, 2000, 2005 and 2010. It has impeccable, structure, balance and precision, perfectly ripe fruit, with mineral edginess. Not quite as opulent and flamboyant as the 2009 but breathtakingly impressive.

Pomerol picks mid and high range in 2016 from bottle (Pomerol): Ever the “Pauillac of Pomerols”, there is no exception in 2016, as this displays so much power. Quite coiled in, but give it time. Very deep – and even a bit muscular, but it was even more so from barrel. This powerhouse blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc was bottled in May, after having aged in 50% new oak. I thought it was almost tooforeboding and tootannic from barrel and preferred the La Fleur Petrus. Today, I still prefer the La Fleur Petrus – if only because Trotanoy will cost you another $100per bottle, at about $325 retail. But, as I had discussed with Jane Anson, as we tasted together the Moueix line in Libourne, we agreed that Trotanoy will outlast La Fleur Petrus. But I do not think that it will ever be as sumptuously charming.

Matter of taste (London): Beutiful nose with violets, licorice and iron. Soft, fruity, very fine ripe tannin. Relatively rich but still dry without falling into the blockbuster category. A fabulous wine! 97-98p

This wine is always armored en primeur, as the most forebodingly tannic in the Moueix stable. But 2016 takes it up a notch. La Fleur Petrus has the better balance this year, in terms of tannic spinal column and density of fruit, but there is no mistaking the long haul quality of this wine. But don't you dare open it before 25 years in bottle ... 94-96

Deep ruby in hue with distinctive floral, spice, incense, boysenberry, plum and cherry blossom aromas, the wine is pure silk with cushy tannins. There is a delicacy (which you should not confuse with being light) that leaves you wanting another sip to discover even more. Not decadent, but still quite sexy.
