Popped and poured. Another good bottle of this. Fairly full bodied but decent balance. Black cherry, tea and herbs come through. Full mature. Nice fleshiness. Doesn’t show that much complexity but has good length.

Slow ox two hours. Big full bodied pinot with flavors of black cherry, tea, spice, touch of wood. This shows the concentration and power of 2005. Still has a long way to go.

Drank two bottles of this purchase on Release, and both of them were extremely, extremely underwhelming. textbook over priced red burgundy. Don’t ever buy from this producer again if you can avoid it.
Needs 20-30 minutes to open up. Still early maturity, medium bodied, but with good concentration and balance. Red cherry, raspberry, herbs and spice. A little new world and lack subtlety, but otherwise in a pretty good place.

Quite a deep colour. Very fine nose. On the palate it has that lovely fine burgundy fragrance, but is a little lacking in complexity. Good, lingering aftertaste. I think it is fully ready, but no hurry to drink up, and perhaps it will gain further nuances with a few more years.

Spiced red fruits in nose -- intense and well-defined. Light on palate but medium-weight and concentrated. Intense, spicy, crystalline dark and red berry fruits. Still firm with tannin and acid. Excellent example of Petits Monts -- not a rich wine, but one defined by its tension. Drinking well now but with a long life ahead and potential even for improvement. Cellared since original release.

Out of the bottle, perfumed nose but quite tannic. After about an hour tannins and acid started to smooth out revealing a mass of berry fruit, without tartness or sweetness, blueberries, a hint of banana and suggestion of vanilla. Silky smooth mouthfeel with a floral bouquet, this wine seemed less complex and less old world than I would have expected.

The 2005 Nicolas Potel Vosne Romanee Petits Monts is reserved and backwards. Still very young but missing the usual high fruit intensity of 2005 red Burgundies, if tasted blind I would have guessed a village Vosne from a younger vintage instead (2012?). Dark dry wood, old barrel dust, blackberries and low-pitched spices of Vosne. Missing the Premier Cru depth one would expect from Petits Monts, only showing village depth. Simple oak spices. Young and structured, tannins of 1999. Will this ever come around? (87/100)
One might claim the 2005 Nicolas Potel Vosne Romanee Petits Monts is a Burgundy for Bordeaux drinkers. Rich dark fruits of fresh blackberries, low pitched and reserved. This has more 1999 style than 2005, rich and structured with a grainy wood toast. Pitch black dark fruit, young but fruits are mellowing out but tannins are still firm, which makes me question how well this wine from an exceptional vintage can age.. (86/100)

This is large in scale for Petits Monts, more powerful than usual -- complete with tongue-staining extract -- but with the refined, fine-grained tannin characteristic of the cru. The seasoning segues from obvious oakspice to a more exotic and enticing crusty graham cracker mix of sweet and spicy.

Not as good a bottle as previously. This one seemed to already be in decline.

Quite pronounced TCA, and the wine has lost most of its fruit qualities and liveliness.

Drank well over 3 nights. Nose was muted. Red fruits. Some underlying class and elegance. Good balance with freshness.
