The tertiary flavors from aging made this one very enjoyable. Cherries, blueberries, forest floor and soft tannins all stood out. Mid palate and finish could have more, but the nose and palate were still beyond the common standard for a cab.

Quintessential Napa Cab, crowd pleaser. Leads with big ripe red & blue fruits and big alcohol with black pepper spice, tobacco, coffee/mocha, vanilla and cedar to compliment. Outside of the prominent alcohol, this goes down easy with nice tannic grip and enough freshness to not weigh down the drinking experience.

Hall makes a ton of reds and many of them are pretty decent, this 2015 NV is no exception. It’s come around nicely, showing well for the price point. 92+/ 93 Points. (See previous notes).

This wine never disappoints for Napa Cab and is bold but never overly jammy. It’s starting to integrate and evolve into a fantastic wine, especially for the price.

This was a quick choice, a pop and pour experience and no decant or air. This time the wine came across as suppressed, inhibited, the flavors subdued this time around. With 2/3's of a bottle remaining, perhaps the remainder will show some improvement on day 2. As noted in my last note the color, translucent, a thin color of scarlet / Crimson. On the palate, berry fruit, medium/ dark berries, reddish dark cherry, some raspberry and currants. More medium bodied and probably because of the lack of flavors tonight. 90+ / 91 Points.
Day 2: Much improved and more in line with the first bottle. A wine that is well worth the price of admission. This wine definitely benefits from decanting. 92+ 93 Points. Recommended.

Bought for immediate drinking from a mini mall liquor store tucked between the gas station and Taco Bell. Not exactly your local Circle K. After all, they have a 2005 Lafite Rothschild ten feet away from the beef jerky rack.
This is the first wine my wife has had where she noticed wine evolving during a single taste.
Deep garnet and super clear. No sediment in bottle. Decanted about 1 hour.
The nose is really dusty, with boysenberry and licorice. Inviting, modern and showing maturity.
Palate confirms nose. Medium plus mouthfeel. Stewed black fruits, cherry, mint, menthol, vanilla and just a touch of leather, dust and cedar. Tannins well resolved. Nice balance but a touch of heat..
Finish is lingering. Fruits start out on the jammy side, but are brightened and freshened by reasonable acidity as the flavors evolve.
Drink or hold near term. I should note that the storage conditions at the liquor store are ok... but not ideal and may have affected bottle condition.

This bottle was much blander than previous one. Fruit very dominant and sweet. Good fruit, but still mostly fruit overtones with some vanilla breaking late. I'd drink this with steak / red meat specifically. Didn't work quite as well on its own for me this time.

I’ve always liked this wine. Rich, excellent value, consistent vintage to vintage. This particular vintage is ready to drink now, judging by the softness on the palate. I don’t think this will benefit from further cellaring. Better than the frog pond but not as good as the honig, each of which are at a similar price point.

A pleasant midweek surprise, the experience was better than anticipated. Decent but a deceptive translucent, rather thin color of scarlet / Crimson with a soft nose. On the palate, this wine delivered on flavors for the price point. Notably ripe berry fruit, medium dark berries, reddish dark cherry and some raspberry, currants and cedar wood. There is some stuffing to this wine, medium to full bodied and nice flavors for the money. 92+ / 93 Points.

Part of a tasting with 2016 Frank Family and 2016 Honig. This was a very close second to the Honig. It's light viscosity with a nice boysenberry, fresh and crisp smell. Mile blackberry taste but not overly fruity, with little length on the finish. My wife thought this had a little more bite in the back of the throat. Simple, but pleasant wine.

Decanted for 2 hours. Very nice Cabernet blend. Good value at the $35 I paid. I read from other CTers that they are paying $50+ for this wine. At that price, I would be less impressed by this wine. Paired wonderfully with a grilled t-bone. Nose was very enticing - lots of dark berries, some earth, and some leather. The palate mirrored the nose. Lush mouthfeel and a nice bite on the finish. Probably could have waited another couple of years and it would have been even better, but it was definitely good this evening!

Always a solid go to at under $40 but questionable as we approach $60. Ripe black/blue fruit, cassis, anise, vanilla and fairly prominent oak. Needs time to smooth out but high octane and structured enough to pull it off.
big, perfumed with cedar, eucalyptus and mixed dark berries, intense and upfront, currant paste, blackberry juice, mint and cherry flavors, there is some noticeable heat on the finish, especially if you are not used to high alcohol levels, yet this achieves richness, complexity and depth, might come together better in a couple of years, for now, match is a peppery steak

Some improvement from almost a year ago. Dark red and black fruit - blackberry, currants/cassis, and dark cherry. Smooth mid-plate with a nice purity and solid depth/concentration especially for the price point - medium plus body. Nice rich/vibrant flavors of dark berries and some spice/licorice. Fairly long finish. Popped/poured but drank out of a decanter for a couple hours. Improved a little with time but drinking quite well right away. Once again, a nice vintage of this wine and a solid QPR at $50 - no surprise of the 93 rating from Dunnuck and 93+ from WA. 87% cab and 13% merlot.

Rated 93 by JD and 93+ by WA. Slow-ox for an hour as I didn't have a decanter available. Classic Cali cab that was smooth and approachable even at this "young" age. Impeccably balanced, offering an array of blue and black fruits, graphite, mocha and rosemary with just a slight touch of oak. Mouth-filling and rich with soft tannins and a 30 second finish that lingered and satisfied. This is a beauty, and for an entry-level cab, it is a solid QPR.

Flemings Walnut Creek, Duckhorn Dinner (Flemings, Walnut Creek, Ca.): Nose of black berry, boysenberry, and mocha java coffee grounds, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, enjoyed once before dinner and also after dinner, mouth filling fruit, 2 years to peak drinking, and a long finish.

Decanter about an hour. Violets with a hint of cola. Dark brick red, light tannins. Flavors of blackberry and dark chocolate (bitter). This wine needs a decant and some time to open. (Drinking directly from the bottle without giving any time will result in a flabby, metallic experience. Spend time with this wine to open and breath and you will be rewarded. Great QPR.

Odd and disappointing. Pretty bland and characterless, little fruit. Yet no other signs or smells to suggest it is corked. This is my go-to wine many nights. I buy several cases every vintage. This case, which arrived a couple of months ago, was driving beautifully from one side of the case. Then I started on the second six. Three of three bottles this past week have had this same profile. Little flavor, maybe a hint of metallic or woodsiness. (In the past we've had great bottles, but one or two corked -- where you really knew it, aromas and taste of musty cork smell -- in each case.)

Drank at Italian restaurant, $85 on wine list, big, lots of fruit and tannin to balance but tannin is mild, crowd pleaser, drank easily, only 1 big issue the ABV is 15.8%, can't drink too much of this stuff, no noticeable alcohol taste and good complexity and structure, would drink again but only 1 glass as part of a group.

Actually approachable now with a decant and very impressed. 92 in a few years! Definitely need to add several to the cellar - although this is starting to creep up in price to border on losing value. Locally I'm seeing it for $65 which is ridiculous.
Aroma of apricot, vanilla and tobacco. Prolonged flavors of dried fruit and cocoa with a tinge of hazelnut. Subtle tannins and desert like finish makes this cab a smooth drink. 91

Decided to revisit with a longer two hour decant and drank over a couple more. Once again, dark red and black fruit - blackberry, dark currants, and dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate with solid depth/concentration for the price point and nice rich flavors of dark berries, a little chocolate/cocoa, and some spice. Fairly long finish. I still expect some improvement over the next 6 to 12 months as the fruit open-up a little more but I believe this is the best vintage that I've had of this wine.

Dark ruby/purple fruit - blackberry, dark currants, and dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate with decent depth/concentration for the price point - medium body. Nice rich flavors of dark berries, a little chocolate/cocoa, and some spice box. Fairly long finsh. Decanted for one hour and drank over a couple more. Improved a little with time. Enjoyable and approachable at this stage, however, I believe another 6 to 12 months should benefit this vintage to let the fruit open-up a little more and for it to hopefully fill-out/add a little more weight. In all, the profile reminds me quite a bit of the 2015 Hall 1873 cab but a little lighter fruit and not quite the same purity. In my opinion, in line with the 93 rating Deb Dunnuck and 93+ from WA with a little more time. A really nice vintage of this wine and a solid QPR in the mid $50s. 87% cab and 13% merlot.

Initial impression, a little sweet and bordering "cloying". Probably just needs to resolve and chill in bottle, a bit. I've always enjoyed their house napa cabs in the past, and by all accounts 2015 should be a good one. I'm sure it will be solid.

Dark blue and black fruits, forest floor, licorice, dusty backend tannins, very young still. Good wine
