Deep colour with a touch of purple at the edge. Good dark berry fruit with black cherries prominent. A backbone of soft tannins and balanced acidity both of which persisted on the long palate. Cedar developed on standing and the wine evolved nicely over 6-8 hours showing rich, sweet fruit with persistent but soft tannins. I think this needs longer to show its best. I really should have waited to taste this again. I’ll keep my remaining couple of bottles for a few years. 89-90 Note added next day. After 24h+, the wine was disappointing. The fruit had largely faded leaving mainly the acidity and tannins. So, it may not age well on further cellaring. I’ll chance it, though.

Flagship wine from this large Chilean house. Mainly CabSauv with lesser amounts of Carmenere, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Very complex with dark cherry and other black fruit in the nose. Quite spicy, with loads of fruit. Fine tannins with a lasting finish.

Our first bottle of 2014. Good colour. On first opening, there was a touch of farmyard on the nose and it seemed quite austere. A couple of hours later, there was a hint of sulphur and ‘rubber’ on the nose and the fruit was restrained. The palate showed mainly red fruits and was less rich and complex than earlier vintages. The balance of acidity seemed OK. Given more time, the nose improved and even hinted at dark cherries. The palate also improved a little and it was drinkable with hearty food. Based on earlier, excellent, vintages, we had anticipated a great experience but this bottle did not impress as expected. Earlier posters have not had any complaints so maybe this is just a dodgy bottle. We have more so we will see.

Dark in colour, juicy and expressive on the nose with notes of cassis, plums, cherries, violets and spices. On the palate generous and fresh, again spicy with a nice tannic bite towards the finish. Good balance and length. Drink or keep. 91-93

Retailer tasting. Bright dark ruby In colour. Intense black currant and cherry notes as well as herbeaceous spice and pleasant vegetal notes on the expressive nose and palate, which expressed the blend of grapes nicely. Nice, smooth texture, but maybe a little watery and short. I am not fully convinced by this 2014. It is a good wine, but I have tasted better vintages of Don Maximiano and still always thought it was a little overpriced. 89+ for now.

Tasted after 2016 Max Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon. More depth and elegance, wonderful fruit. Spicy, fresh, grippy tannins. The balance is impressive. Very good length. 92-93+

Very dark in colour. Quite expressive on the nose - tobacco, spices, cassis, liquorice. On the palate concentrated and dense, but surprisingly fresh and really well balanced overall. The tannins are super ripe and well integrated, but still quite grippy. Lingering, persistent finish. Very good, likely to improve. 91-92+

Dark, inky, almost black. Full bodied. Vanilla, all spice, Cigar box. Pencil led. Stewed prunes. Thick and viscous. Dry, tannic, still young. Dark berries. Nicely balanced. Great with grilled steak.

A savory meaty nuance up front on the palate. Very chewy on the palate. Black cherry and dark berry to the palate. Yesterday’s bottle opened up nicely and the carmenere shown through as a fine cedar chest aroma. It is noted that in 2012 the direction of this wine veered away from such a high portion of Cab.

James Suckling - Great Wines of the Andes (The Presidio, SF): (68% cab, 18 carm. 9 malbec, 5 pv) Deep purple color. Cabernet blackcurrant fruit with some blueberry and cedar. Restrained ripeness for this full-bodied style. Good medium plus acid and well managed alcohol - feels 14%. Medium tannins - plush. Well balanced and open.

Very sexy wine, similar to a Sena, but without the tar notes. Intense and refine cassis and bourgeons de cassis aromas. Well balanced on the palate, but its lacking some depth, especially for the price. So, very well made and fun to drink, but should be sold $30-40 cheaper.

Decero and Errazuriz winery visit; 1/26/2017-2/5/2017 (Argentina and Chile): 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Carmenere, 9% Malbec, 5% PV, 20 months, 70% new French. 14% ABV. Carmenere definitely shows trough in the aromas. red and black fruit aromas. nuanced spice, again, nice lift to the palate, med/+ tannin, but not overwhelming. an underlying minerality, but still shows some baking spice to the nose. LOTS of potential.

Charming wine with floral and spicy quality on nose -- currently it's more red fruit than black fruit. Yet the bone is there.
