Delicious. Never ceases to amaze me how well these Peter Michael chardonnays age. This is drinking beautifully today. Golden yellow color but no hint of oxidation. Full bodied, almond cake flavors. Not as much acidity as the higher end PM bottlings.

Prime of Life Dinner (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): A lovely new world Chardonnay, quite at peak now. This had a beautifully perfumed nose – flowers and sweet cream, beeswax and honey, with ripe lemons and sweeter stone fruit aromas, all rounded off with a touch of salted caramel and toasty oak. I was actually quite surprised that a lot of people guessed that this was a Grand Cru Burgundy with a sunny nose like that, but I could just about see why when we got to the elegant balance and integration on the palate – qualities that more often than not escape warmer new world Chardonnays. There was a really nice yumminess to this, with creamy flavors of sweet peach and apricots and nectarines shaded with just a touch of toasted corn and coconut oak notes. There was lovely weight, but also equally lovely balance throughout, with the acid and fruit all beautifully integrated from the attack to the long finish with its dash of spice. I thought the oak treatment was obvious, but otherwise, this was very delicious in a very upfront, summery way. In magnum, this was at peak and really enjoyable now – a great example of what a Californian Chardonnay can be.

Rich creamy white vanilla beans with vanilla essence and ripe juicy kumquats and peaches. Very opulent in style and reminds me of a batard but an 03 hotter vintage.

Outstanding bottle. Burnt sugar, creme brûlée on nose. Rich and silky palate. Weightless and refined oak. Elegant finish. Surprised this is holding up so well and would not expect it to improve.

Just as good as the previous bottle. Viscous, rich and creamy texture. Nose of honeysuckle, orange blossoms, citrus and a big mineral nose. Copious amounts of toasty oak and vanilla too. Flavors of tropical fruits, peaches, cream, vanilla butter and honey. A restrained Cali chard that shows poise and balance. Acidity is low but the finish is quite long. Wonderful.

The wine is popped and poured a cloudy, golden straw color with long legs. The wine starts to show slight signs of the aging as there are hints of amber gold as well. On the nose, the chardonnay yields a bouquet of honeysuckle, vanilla, lemon curd, fresh cut grass, butter and peaches. On the palate, the wine is quite viscous with a robust structure, yielding upon layers of honey, vanilla cream, goat cheese, stone fruits and pineapples. What strikes me is the balance of this wine, as the presence of adequate minerality ties everything together despite this being a robust, full chardonnay. Oak is apparent but kept at a minimum. Finish is very long but not cloying, while acidity is kept at a low. A very complex wine, one that could easily have fooled me as a Burgundy had it not been the label.

the 02 vintage slips into memory; it was a sensational year for PM chards. this final bottle is mildly oxidative, waxy, displays little oak, some minerals + lemon-lime. not my favorite vineyard from this year, and i preferred it younger.

a couple of PM 02s still lingering in the cellar. butterscotch, lime tinted, a hint of oxidation that imparts some complexity. again, i wouldn't serve this to anybody but wine/chard cognescenti, but i like it's contemplative nature and residual lemon zest. drinking nicely at age nine.

Golden color, nose of butterscotch, caramel and wood, the wine is still very big with really plush caramel, vanilla flavor and a long long finish. Holding up beautifully but definitely ready to drink. Sad that this is my last bottle.

the level of residual oak seems to control performance of this wine. this bottle displays good integration and nice acid. holding well, but i am unconvinced there is any upside to cellaring these much longer, if at all. still, probably the best bottle i've tasted, so...

the 2002 retrospective continues after "finding" a case in my cellar. this wine is not as explosive as the ma belle-fille recently tasted. it has, however, absorbed most of the oak i complained about a while ago. nevertheless, it's a cut below the previously referenced wine. good citrus notes.

Served with grilled tuna. Light gold in color, with a very slight cloudiness. Not much on the nose over an hour or two. Mature chardonnay flavors, with a slight bitter note - others have called it fennel or anise, maybe that's it. Rich mouthfeel, but somewhat one-dimensional. Previous bottles have been much better - mid-90s - and I'm glad this was my last one

Delicious, showing wonderful mature chardonnay flavors with fennel frond laced yellow apple, mixed citrus, and a touch of caramel on the finish. Nicely put together and ready now. A bit of hollowness in the midpalate and finish is all that kept this from a higher score, but it is still one of the best drinking chards from this vintage today.

cloudy yellow. Amazingly good nose and taste for a 6 yo Cal Chard. There was a hint of anise in nose and taste, and that was the different factor with the aged wine. Very nice.

This one had the slightest hint of oxydation. Yet still was better than 95% of all Cali Chards. No one noted the Oxy-but all but myself have never had the wine. Still it was good, better with the food. My suspicion is to drink up.

G7 (Pat): Tropical fruits, pears, ammonia and caramel. The oak is not integrated very well and stands out like a sore thumb. Good acidity. Rich, lush finish with a little heat at the end. 14.7% alcohol.
