Wow, what a surprise - this is still alive! Huge fruit nose, but not overwhelming like say a Mollydooker would be. Big red and blue fruit, and balanced though high acid. Very pleasant through and leaves a lingering fruity finish.

Drank with beef, yam and salad. Everyone was impressed with this wine. Yumm-eeee! Just as impressed the next day. More!!!! The wine looks Violet colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Prune, Raisin, and Strawberry Jam. It tastes like Chrysanthemum, Honeysuckle, Rose, Cedar, Oak, and Butterscotch.

Soooo smooth. Underlying chocolate, smoke and lively pepper finish. The glasses emptied so quickly and everyone gave it the WOTN hands down. One of the best Washington Syrah wines we have ever had and we are from Washington. Still can't get over the addition of Vionier. Would never have guessed but in the hands of this winemake a stroke of genius! Jay gave it a 97.

Expedition Wines American Homegrown: nose: great depth on the nose with laid back tones of dark red cherries, spices, black berries and some nice undertones of chocolate. Has a nice richness and purity on the nose that makes it very attractive
taste: expressive medium/full feel with lush tones of berries, dark red cherries, spice tones and chocolate. Good tannins with a slight bit of heat that detracts a slight bit
overall: an outstanding syrah that has wonderful fruit and balance. Very expressive and young but is drinking fairly well right now

Stimmel's Market: Pacific Northwest (Bowling Green, OH): Inky red color, cloudy. Huge nose - gasoline, black cherries, light pencil lead and vegetable. Very smooth. Medicinal, rich, big. Light acid, medium tannin. Good age. Big, but interesting and restrained in style. Mint chocolate.

Summer dinner with all four parents (Paul & Kelli's deck: Settle, WA): Completely different experience than the first bottle. This time, I dropped this puppy into the decanter for five hours. What a gorgeous wine to look at: deep, dark, midnight purple. I couldn't walk past the decanter without sticking my nose in, and the aromas were consistently of rich, dark fruit (bordering on kirschy/jammy). In the glass, the nose was similar, but the heat and nose-hair-singing alcohol from the first bottle had settled down nicely into a black peppercorn spiciness. Big, rich fruit on the palate, and again that peppery finish, but without the throat-scorching aspect of the first bottle. I tried to pair this with roasted rack of lamb, but the Cuvee took poor lamb-chop out to the backyard and kicked the shit out of him. This is probably a wine to be savored on its own. Yum.

Swordfern Wine Tasting #2: Syrah (Paul and Kelli's: Seattle, WA): Tasted blind as part of a Syrah tasting party. On the nose, smelled hot and peppery. On the palate, tasted really hot. Had some pleasant spice and fruit, but the alcohol dominated for me. Full-bodied and medium tannin. Maybe we didn't let this one breathe enough; I had high hopes for this wine and it was a big disappointment.

Midnight black in color. Black cherry, earth, leather, blueberry, blackberry, smoked meats and black pepper. Nice acidity and freshness. Excellent depth with a long, powerful yet complex finish. 14.8% alcohol.

Yikes. Just yikes.; 9/24/2009-9/25/2009 (Bowling Green, OH): Cigarette smoke on the nose. Slightly sweet. More Aussie-ish. Very smooth. Slight bacon. Drinking very well.

blueberry, and after awhile some earthiness, grilled meat. more blueberry on the mouth with a high toned acid which felt spritzy.
