While probably past its prime, this wine was a surprising delight for a special occasion. The high Cabernet (80%+) in the blend likely contributed to this. The tannins were nicely controlled, the fruit was laid back but still vibrant, and there were delightful aged notes throughout with a nice finish as well.

New World Blind Tasting Group $40+ (Bin 75): Dark garnet core with lighter garnet rim; vanilla, rosemary, cooked fruit, darker fruit, lots of spice, clove, allspice; some strong tannin, hints at red fruit with lots of dark fruit, eucalyptus, big, some pencil shavings; very decent, seemed like a more youthful and balanced example than others.

New World Blind Tasting Group $25+ (Bin 75): Darker core with dull garnet rim; nose of currant, slight stewed red and dark fruit, cedar, tobacco, hints at green pepper; palate has good amount of tannin but softer due to its age; tasty, better with pop and pour than the last one which may have been decanted too long.

Lots of fruit, but not as good of a finish as the 2002, which was best of the night. Very inky color with berry/jammy nose and finish

mouthful of bell peppers, currants, coffee, black cherry and leather on the finish. Very consistent with the wines that come from alexander valley.

Nice wine! Very smooth finish, a few tanins at the end. Solid Napa bourdeaux blend.
