Purchased at Bergstrom on release and cellared at 8 C in cold Whistler cellar. After reading some of these dubious tasting notes felt I had to jump into the fray. Light yellow with crushed peach pit and whiff of granite and lilies on the nose. Viscous young stone fruit on palate with impressive grip and a long finish. This could easily slay 80% of white burgundies in a blind tasting with enormous palatal grip and an expansion on the back end that reminds me of a PYCM Chassagne 1er cru about 15 years out. This is fabulous and glad to have another case to slide into white burg blind tastings. Josh changed styles after visiting burgundy about 10 years ago, and this bottle clearly indicates that Bergstrom is ready to take on the world chardonnays and slap a lot of them down with this phenomenal bottle- wow! Best now to 2031.

My last bottle: this one had evolved and was better than the two previous ones but I still remain unconvinced. There was a grassy undertone on the nose and palate that I still do not like very much. Otherwise the wine has become more mineral and more complex. Bea definitively liked it better than I did.

This is slowly heading downhill, IMO....starting to oxidize, although that didn't bother me too much....nose showed golden fruit, some chalk and some barnyard. Palate showed apple, pear and melon, but slightly more muted than what I was expecting....it also showed some chalk and hay. I think this would have been better a year or two ago, but still pretty nice. More Burgundian in style now than New World, IMO. I would recommend drinking top within the next year or so. 92. for my palate today, would have likely been a point or two higher a year ago. I think people who enjoy old Burgundies will enjoy this more than I.

Wow! What a unique Chardonnay. The combination of excellent production and 7 years aging has yielded an incredibly interesting and complex wine. On sight, this wine is clear and bright with a hay-like hue. A complex and markedly floral nose reveals intense perfumed lilac with hints of tomato stalk (due to age) and Meyer lemon notes. The plate is crisp and clean with tangerine flavors, some mild vegetal tones and very well integrated oak. Still with brisk acidity and minerality, finishing off with lingering almond tones.

30 months after the prior — and only slightly less disappointing: Tar, struck match, sulfur. At least, this time, no overt tire rubber.
These characteristics were very pronounced on day one; we recorked. Day two: these nasty attributes retreated only slightly. We again recorked and vacated the house for 48 hours, after which the bottle became tolerable, and maybe even decent, in small pours over the next two nights. But it was never truly enjoyable.
Comparison / aside: Lately we’ve been having quite a few 2017s and 2018s from various Chassagne Montrachet houses. The Joseph Drouhin bottles in particular (even at the village level, but especially 1ers) have been lovely — deep, savory/spicy, earthy minerality, refreshing acid backbone. Very few exhibited the wholly unfriendly overt sulfur / tar qualities of this Sigrid — and only one to this overblown extent: Chateau de la Maltroye 1er Morgeot blanc 2018, which we will try to finish tonight, after sparring with it over the prior three nights, tasting alongside this Sigrid. They are siblings! So for those who truly enjoy this Sigrid — you might also go for that comparably costy compadre.
Ditto Bandreas’s recent note — this is a peculiar wine. Tense, and most discernible flavors were stone fruit pits. Stony, steely, and sour. Gave up a bit more fruit day 2, but pretty similar experience. Maybe a lot of of air for the next one.

A peculiar wine: Has developed and shows tension but there is a funky by-taste that not our guests last night did not appreciate so much. Quite steely, too. I found it interesting but not so much on the appealing side...

As noted by other reviewers, this is a very particular style of Chardonnay. If you like that style (I do) then this is great. Noticeably diminished on day two, though.

Not my cup of Chardonnay style - heavy yeast, toasted brioche nose and flavors overpower some nice grapefruit and unripe papaya tones. Not picking up the sulfur as noted by others but a definite funky yeasty element.

Faint light gold. Odd slightly off-putting sulfur like aromas at opening that seem to dissipate with air. Firm unripe peach, tart lime citrus, with nice brightness.

Pale golden color. Nose of lemon peel, chamomile, honeysuckle, and light petrol. Tastes of lemon, key lime, slate, butter, and oak. Quite acidic now but the fruit does manage to show through. I believe this wine will benefit from additional time in the bottle.

Medium golden. And that’s the best thing we can say. This was downright unpleasant, and we finished it only because having paid so much, we were unwilling to give up on it. But by the fourth day (and tasting each day in between) the tar/smoke/rubber/aspects had become only more, and not less, pronounced. “Struck match” — for sure. Hint of sulphur, too. We have one more more, and yikes, I see 560+ bottles in CT inventory. Does anyone hold out realistic hope for this?
Chardonnay Shootout: Burgundy vs New World, Double Blind (Booth One - Chicago IL): Double blind in Chardonnay New World vs Old World shootout. This was so reductive that it was impossible to fairly assess., even after pouring from glass-to-glass 10 times and giving this 30 minutes. Clearly rich and dense with good length, but little pleasure coming through tonight.

nose -smoke, creme brûlée, burnt sugar mouth - a combination of powerful and sleek. it has good minerality and nice acidity to help balance out the caramelized lactose. while this strikes me as better than many chards (esp from CA) , I prefer a good chablis

Straw/yellow color. Apple/pear notes, but balanced by nice level of minerality. Enjoyed by some non-white wine and non-Chardonnay lovers! Nice older world style...

Bit heavy still. Think this is as good as it gets. Drink up but expect a bit of oak and petroleum.
