Cellared since 2017 after a visit to the winery. Opened December 26, 2023 Dark purple with black fruit and vanilla on the nose. Big, rich, Tempranillo wine with good structure and nice acid providing freshness. There is appreciable oak, and tannin which provides good upside potential for development of complexity and still greater enjoyment. Will open the next bottle in 2026. If I were to open one before then, I would give this at least 1 hour of air.
92 points.

My WOTY so far. Dark and masculine, but with a nervy streak of acidity to provide balance. On the palate it shows a nicely blended melange of blackberries, brown spice, blackberry compote and even Black Forest cake. Still quite tannic, but this only provides sophistication. Comparable to other vintages (so I will rely on some of my past TNs)

Just as good as the previous bottle I drank more than a year ago. Toro at its best!! Still have some left, which can improve over the next 5-10 years (if I am patient enough)

Opened two hours before enjoying it. Entering its peak window. Tannins are tamed and balance is noticeable now. This is a domesticated Toro in a Bordeaux style. Ideal for drinking after lunch or dinner paired with nothing but water.

Spain, San Román, Toro 2014, 14.5% alcohol https://www.bodegasanroman.com/en/
Appearance
Clear, deep intensity, garnet colour.
Nose
Clean nose, medium+ intensity, aromas chamomile, blossom, pollen; and red fruit (cherry, plum), also black fruit (cherry, plum); and cooked fruits (prune), dried herbs (lavender). Vanilla, cedar and chocolate, charred wood. Leather, earth, vegetal. Fully developed.
Palate
Dry, with medium acidity, soft medium (+) tannins, high alcohol and full bodied. Pronounced flavours of black berries, cherry, plum and developed fruit, prune and cooked cherry. Also pepper. Pronounced vanilla, cedar, wood impressions. Cloves, leather, tobacco, and earth-like tertiary aromas. Long finish.
Conclusions
A well balanced mature wine with clear oak sensations, with well identifiable characteristics, complexity and a long finish. Overall a very good wine, which is good for drinking now, but has potential for further ageing.
This is a very nice wine, not cheap but decent value for money. You must like oak effects, which are for my taste on the strong side, similar to many Rioja's. However in this wine the different flavours, tannins and high alcohol are really well integrated, so I make an exception concerning the oak, and would buy again.

This a really good powerhouse Toro. 100% tinta de Toro, the local temperanillo variation. 2 years in French and American oak, which you can taste. The nose has berries and vanilla and leather. Palate with some chocolate, dark fruit. Really a "thick" wine. It was difficult to keep this in the cellar, but worth the wait. This can easily be kept for another 10 to 15 years, maybe more. 93 points, but can improve.

This an exceptional Toro. Plenty of berries aromas and flavors. Balanced at the same time. Not the typical strong Toro, but closer to a Duero. Ready to enjoy now and for the next 3-4 years

Drank for NYD 2020. Nose of blackcurrants and vanilla. A big and bold wine. So much ripe fresh dark fruita. Full bodied. Perfect with steak. Hides the 15% alcohol well. Drank with Mary & Paul

Heady nose of dark berries and cherry with a floral undertone (violets?). A fuller-bodied wine, its redolent of sweet, dark fruit: blackberries, cassis, black cherry, plums. Lots of vanilla oak, some cedar and smoky undertones. A healthy amount of acidity keeps it from being overly fruity/syrupy and grippy tannins provide a nice structure, though hopefully will mellow a bit with time. The fruit carries through the medium long finish. Hope we don’t drink this all right away so we can pop one next year & see how it evolves...

Great nose, better mid palate and longer than a rainy afternoon. Just a little bit hot but tannins are in a good place.
