Much improved from a few years ago. At home for a low key pizza and movie night. No decant but did benefit from sitting open for an hour or so as it's still a bit tight on the finish.

Castello Brunello di Montalcino 2015 Decant in small decanter for 30 mins, in wine glass for 30 mins. Young but approachable, nose of riped fruits, mainly red, red cherry and raspberries, blueberry, herbaceous, fresh spices, cedar, fragrance of fresh oak. Elegance entry with welcoming fresh herbs and spices, due to her youthfulness, sour cherry. Mid palate is medium body with firm tannins with fresh acidity. Finishing is of medium length, could likely improve with further aging. Keep for 3 years to explore her full potential. 91-92 pts.

A traditional BdM with a light red colour and profound earthy cherry aroma on the too young nose. Per os, this is rather acidic (perfect for Tuscan food) but hasn't yet found it's balance. The cherries are all over the place. :-) …and it was a pleasure enjoying this extremely youthful wine tonight.
For its future, we hope that the current, rather THIN body will either grow or be compensated by the maturing behaviour of Sangiovese. Our guess is that this will remain a slender and elegant wine for tomato based Tuscan pasta.
Not a fancy swagger, but a polite guy in a suit.

2nd bottle from a case and much better than the 1st. Clearly still young with noticeable tannins, but good nose of cherry, herbs and a hint of dried flowers. Will leave rest of the bottles alone for another couple of years, and look forward to trying again then.

First bottle from a case purchased last summer. This was a bit of a hot mess. When first opened it had a mostly savory nose and taste profile. Fruit showed up after 30-45 mins in the decanter but a lot of heat on the palate too. Borderline undrinkable and after 2 glasses poured the rest back into the bottle and recorked. Tried it again the next night and when it first came out of the cellar it was tight and noticeably tannic. Became more approachable over the next hour or so and did better with food. I don't know if this was just a bad bottle, if the wine had sub optimal storage before I purchased the case or if it's just in a bad window right now, so not leaving a rating until I try another bottle and see if it's a different experience.
Pale ruby, prounce intensity on the nose, red cherry, strawberry, leather, tomato, fennel seeds, star anise, basil, red roses ( withered), hawthorn, mushroom, dried orange peel, developing. Dry, high acidity, high tannins, high alcohol, med+ body, med+ intensity, coffee bean, hawthorn, red cherry, proscuitto, very smooth tannins on the palate. Very good wine, tried 2008 vintage when we travelled to Italy in 2019. This vintage is way better than that one. We haven't tried an enjoyable wine since we moved to China due to the 14 days quarantine. This wine is over our expectation and kind of celebration for the ending of the 14 days quarantine.

Mild cherry and oak notes with not a particularly memorable finish, this wine may not quite be ready to drink even if it's in its larger Magnum format.

Classic elegant nose of sour cherries, toasty earthy spices, hot stones and almond. First impression of the palate is red fruit freshness and stone minerality. The velvety tannins and acidity provide the structure for this young Brunello. This takes very little breathing to open up. For now it is still showing primary elements, clean notes but not much depth in the medium bodied structure. Age for a few more years for it to develop its layers and length. 89-91 pts.
Re-tasted in Dec 2023. Nose and palate largely remained unchanged. A touch of more minerality and less fruity than before. Not much gain of depth and smoothness. Should continue to age for 2-3 years for the tannins to fully integrate into the tight structure. No change in score.

2015 Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino was perfumed, layered and well-structured. The developing Brunello was clear and medium ruby in colour without any sediments. It took three hours of aeration to open up impressive aromatics of crunchy blackberries, dark cherries and thyme herbs, followed by leather, meat and black pepper.
The mouthfeel was dry and rather full-bodied, well-supported by medium-high levels of acidity and gripping tannin. Flavours of bramble, chocolate, mushroom and stony minerality lingered in a long savoury finish.

Purple color. Muted dark fruit nose. Medium full body. Flavors of dark cherry, plum, and blackberry. Still young and primary. Good structure for further aging, but drinking well now as the fruit is nicely up front. Not the most profound wine, but solidly down the middle and excellent with food. Best with a 1 hour decant.
