Perhaps never meant to age this long but still very drinkable. Subdued nose but classic Nebbiolo flavors and a slight tannic finish. Still interesting to drink and should continue to be for at least a few more years.

Good but a bit past its prime - all tertiary notes. Lots of bricking. Still quite drinkable and interesting. Still a lot of drying tannins on the finish. Not bad for a declassified Nebbiolo aged for 15 yrs.

Some wines with Pizza (Il Forno and back to Sashi and Sharon's): According to CT, this was last bottle from over a case of these. What a great value! No hurry though, it is at peak but certainly has time left. Ruby/purple in color. The nose has cherries and a minerally/tar note. On the palate, good acidity. Vibrant cherry fruit. Showing some layering as well. Tannins are mostly resolved. A delicious wine.

A few Italians with friends (St. Joseph Day celebration for Kallende): Drinking great now. Perhaps at peak but not going anywhere soon. Ruby in color. The nose has cherries, slight tea, slight tar, and a bit of dried cherries. Good acidity. Still some tannins. Nice cherry fruit. Some depth and length. Good finish. Excellent with some pasta with raisins.

This bottle was better than the one I had 1 month ago. That is probably because I was more careful while decanting it. While I didn't take notes at drinking I remember the purity of flavors was striking. The pure red cherry flavors along with some very nice tertiary notes, fully integrated tannins and acidity made for a really nice experience. The tannins were fully resolved and very smooth. I only wish that it had had more depth and complexity of flavor but it was outstanding, especially for an entry level wine!!! 90+

From memory as I did not take notes at time of drinking. Decanted for about 1 hour before drinking, there were a lot of solids but that is ok with me. Had with Pappardelle pasta in Bolognese sauce, meatballs and parmaggiana reggiano cheese (one of my favorite cheeses). - Simpler than a Barolo or Barbaresco and that's what it's meant to be. Nice cherry notes, tannins relaxed but present and decent acidity. It left me wishing for a little more depth, but still a very good nebbiolo.

Second bottle opened, much better than first. Good nose at opening, swirled it a bit and let it sit a few minutes. Of course a bit tight, but nevertheless good balance, and plenty of characteristic Nebbiolo qualities. Should be even better tomorrow. Anyway, big difference between the two bottles, which I bought at the same time. Go figure.

Just tried first of two bottles. Tastes thinned out, flat surfaced, compressed taste. Nebbiolo qualities still there, but alcohol was the first thing I tasted, and it remained dominant. Clean and well made, but I waited too long to open it.

This is chugging along nicely. Still seems to be improving or at least maturing. The nose has nice cherries, tar and floral notes. The palate has lost some fruit and there are layers of forest floor, dried cherries and cherries. Nice acidity. I plan on drinking my rest over the next five years or so. No hurry.

I haven't checked in these in a while. Popped and poured, this was pretty monolithic and aromatically challenged. With just a short wait, however, the nose opened up into a very pretty, dusty, floral nose. With more air, cherries and even some tar came out. Likewise, the palate was limited on opening although the texture was great. It developed somewhat but never to the extent of the nose. These are coming around just fine, but need at least a couple more years before opening and will be good easily until 2020 and probably beyond that. I paid $13 a bottle, on sale and with case discount. Incredible QPR. Anyone try the 07 yet?

This wine won me over as time passed. Was very bitter right out of the bottle but after an hour bitterness was almost gone. After 2 hours was very good. Taste blackberry, plum, oak. Was very dry from start to finish but was very complex on the palette with a long finish.

Notes from day 2. Nice red color. Nose of red cherry, rose petal, coffee, a little spice. On the palate there was dark cherry, dried cherry, tobbacco, coffee, with some notable tannin on the tail end. Finish is above average in length, and there is acidity noted, making this a nice balanced wine. Decent qpr. Hold. 50+5+12+15+6

Definitely needs some time to open up. Nose initially quite closed but after 30 mins, really nice bing cherry with hints of rose petals and maybe some tobacco and licorish. Appearance is garnet and unfiltered. Pretty high in tannin, and medium acid. Try again in another year.

The nose is still closed. There are hints of black coffee, spices and alcohol. On the palate this has good acidiity, intermingled with salty liquorice and black fruit. Has character, but needs time to develop. Best with food. For now 89, but this could go up with some bottle age.

Garnet Translucent color. Nose of dried roses, asphalt, fresh bing cherries and dried cherries. Mouth is medium bodied with high acid and tannin. Decent amount of fruit. This is a muscular, if not a little lean red that can age for another few years for sure.

This wine needs serious air before it show anything at all. After one hour I would have rated this in the low 80s. It really didn't start to show something until it had more than 3 hours in the decanter. Once it came out of its shell it showed good taste of bing cherry with subtle notes of tobacco and rose petal. The finish is very dry and palate penetrating with plenty of acid. We paired this with pizza from Totanno's in NYC. I enjoyed this wine but I think 3 hours plus is a lot of time for a wine in this price point.

Aromatically this starts with moderate aromatics of raspberry coffee and hints of rose and cinnamon. Its presents itself in a simple focused and pretty way.
On the palate this enters with a strong acidity and immediate all encompassing ripe fine tannin.
Predominant flavors are very dark fruits transitioning to coffee and cacao.
Finish is short moderate.
I think this needs 2-3 years to mesh but will be a great drink then. It is gaining weight and complexity with time in the glass. 89.

Had my second bottle of this last weekend. Popped and poured, it took the wine a few hours to really open up. Quite structured with loads of tannin and bright acidity. After a few hours, the sweet fruit became more prominent as did the tannins. Classic nebbiolo bouquet of rose petals, earth, tar and licorice. Great texture on the palate, a nice minerality to it as well. This wine will improve over then next 5-10 years. I bought 2 1/2 cases of it. Fantastic juice.

Antonio Gallioni(Wine Advocate) said this was a drop dead gorgeous wine and gave it 90 points. I bought a case and decided to taste it now even though it needs another year or so. Wow. Big and tannic and loaded with fruit. Decanted 1 hour. Very, very drinkable. Will improve with age. One always make mistakes and I simply had to taste the wine and used Friday night as an excuse. Unfortunately I had it with pasta and a fresh tomato sauce. Oops. This wine needs to go with meat. Great bargain but my wife preferred the Rosso do Montalcono 2005 the night before. This was a better match with pasta and fresh tomato sauce. In any case, this is a very good wine and Antonio Gallioni is on the money. Try it if you can find it.

Good color. Nice nose with some red and dark fruits, a whif of leather, and perhaps some flowers. Not a lot of intensity but interesting. The palate is medium weight with moderate tannins and good acidity. Some nice fruit on the finish. A really nice wine, good value, and paired nicely with pizza on Valentines day.

Decent stuffing, a hint of oak. Pretty hard and unyielding now though, not the forward lush wine the 03 was, but I think there is still fair potential for a basic Langhe, give it 2-4 years. Could be a high 80's or 90 pt wine in time.

Sort of a sweet vanilla with coffee notes, but also somewhat plummy fruit. This is good, but maybe a little too oaked for me. Pretty tannic; wonder if this would balance out in a few years.
