First of a case of six. Not a very expressive nose, mid to deep garnet red. The first glass straight after double decanting was quite lean and a little tannic and not very promising. Vacuumed and left it for 3 hours then had a second glass, it tasted like a completely different wine, it had come together with more body and mouthfeel and lovely fruit and mineral flavours and a touch of bacon fat. Drinking beautifully.

Quintessential Cote-Rotie. Elegant aromas of smoke-tinted violets and purple flowers, followed by blueberry, blackberry and dark raspberry pastille, with layers of vine smoke, charcoal, black pepper, gamey meats and tapenade. There is power, but this unfolds elegantly with expertly balanced acidity and freshness. Very good indeed.

95% Syrah with 5% Viognier. Vines are co-planted and approximately 20 years old on average. Certified organic—harvested and sorted by hand. Grapes are put into the tank by gravity, partially de-stemmed, and fermented with their indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged two years in oak barrels (15% new) with no filtration before bottling.
True to the defining characteristic of Cote-Rotie, the aromas of fresh berries, campfire, lavender, bacon fat, peppercorn, and violets leap from the glass. The dense yet elegant palate shows fresh acidity to support the tannins and lengthy finish. Black olive, gravel, roasted game, and ripe blackberry flavors provide a sultry appeal to please the most discriminating of palates.

Young and very primary at this stage. Seems to have a nice minerality on the nose. Fruit is pure and cool, nice overall balance, youthful dry tannins on the finish. Definitely needs some time.

By the glass. Aromas of raisins, black berries and black pepper. Easy and almost completely resolved in the mouth. Simple and ready. In one word, modern. To be served immediately at a restaurant, why not?
Por copas. Aromas a uvas pasas, bayas negras y pimienta negra. Fácil y casi totalmente resuelto en boca. Sencillo y listo. En una palabra, moderno. Para ser servido inmediatamente en un restaurante, ¿por qué no?

Barnerov selvfølgelig, men faktisk drikkbar.

The debut vintage for the new name and label for this cuvee, the wine is peppery from the get go. Medium bodied, clean and energetic, the wine displays it vibrant, spicy red berries with ease. Give it a few years to develop before pulling a cork.

La Tablee: Grand Tasting (26 Bridge Street, Brooklyn): Really love the wines from this producer. There's this crispness and precision to them that I find compelling. Very much true in this one and really nice given the price point. Lots of darker fruits. Some background of gravel notes. Enjoyable.

Surprisingly easy to drink already, though the finish seems a bit disjointed right now. Weirdly it was even less together on the second night. What bit of fruit there is leans towards the raspberry spectrum, but this is really about the savory, meaty flavors with a lot of brightness to balance it. I know CR is not quite as old school as some others but this is pretty old school. Excellent, will wait at least 5 years for my next bottle, maybe more.

Excellent wine. But really needs an hour or two of air before drinking. Then, intense and bloody.

A week in the Northern Rhone; 12/7/2018-12/15/2018 (Lyon, Vienne, Ampuis, Chavanay, Hermitage, Cornas, St. Joseph, Condrieu & Paris): Tasted at the Domaine. Dark fruits (blackberry, black currant) with quite a bit of smokiness and earth. Tannins are quite assertive - this is very young - needs at least a decade but nice structure.

Dark berries. Ginger. Cherry. Quite unique if way too young to drink now.
