Approx. 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre and for the rest mainly Syrah with a bit of other allowed grape varieties. Medium deep color with some evolution, a quite muted bouquet with mainly Provencal herbs and garrigue, on the palate some black fruits, harsh tannins, acidity, a lot of heat from the 16% alcohol (even to my own very tolerant criteria) and medium length. This wine seems disjointed right now and might gain more charm and complexity with several years of cellaring. On the pleasure scale this merits only a score of 88 for now. If all the components come together this might score several points more, but it is hard to predict where this is heading.

Opened last night. I used to absolutely LOVE CdPs, but lately (the past few years) I find myself not liking them near as much. Is it me? Or this wine? I see the notes are kind of all over the place on this one. I have to say I am more in agreement with the "underwhelming" notes than other more superlative descriptions. Still remind me a bit of strawberries, but seems dirty, muddled, just a bit off. Baking spices are too much in evidence, quite fat with little acidity, this just comes across to me as overblown and too ripe. 4-10-10-5: 79/100.

Surprisingly good for Mont Olivet’s table CdP. Baking spices, cinnamon, mulberry, thyme and a hint of something metallic. The 2016 vintage was extraordinary in southern Rhone and Mont Olivet produced another value winner.

2016 Chateauneuf du Pape 99/100 point wine taste-off (and a couple of pirate Rhone wines): Blackberry, black cherry, black licorice, black everything, this brooding cave-dwelling bat boy is ripe and gothic in posture. There is decent flex here as well, with its Emo personality still finding time to hit the gym and beef-up the push of flavor. Think Glenn Danzig. Not Perry Farrell. 92-94 points.

Youthful and healthy. Tar, dried rasberries, crushed stones, white pepper, sweet spices and hint of farmyard funk in a good way. Big and welcoming, a straight and forward, pleasurable CDP to enjoy now.

Decanted for and hour and a half. Aromas of boysenberry, currant, wild cherry, blueberry and roasted herbs. Flavors of raspberry ganache, cherry, blueberry, roasted herbs and hint of iron. Got a bit of heat of the nose and palate of this. Hoping it blows off but not too distracting. Ends with a raspberry and iron finish of 25-30 seconds.
Update: After about the 2 hour mark, corked.

Decanted for 1.5 hours. Aromas of loganberry, raspberry, iron, herbs and flowers. Flavors of raspberry garnache, wild cherry, boysenberry, fig and herb. Ends with a long finish of 30+ seconds with fig and raspberry notes. Just as good as I remember over the summer.

In a blind tasting of 8 CDP 2016 wines, deep red color, red licorice, Brussel sprouts, spices, Flintstone vitamins & iodine were present in this full-bodied lengthy finish wine. Definitely the most vegetal of the bunch yet intriguing in a weird way, I did enjoy. Priced $55 CAD drink over the following 10 to 15 years.

Pop and pour. Aromas of roasted herbs, raspberry garnacha, touch of cherry and warm fig. Flavors of raspberry garnacha, cherry compote, fig and herb, Ends with a 25-30 second finish with cherry and herb notes. This is drinking really well right out of a pop and pour. For the price this is a great Chateauneuf!

2016 CdP (and some other wines over dinner) (NY Racquet and Tennis Club): One of the bottles at the table was corked. I was on the side with a 'functioning bottle' although I'm not sure that helped this wine much. I found the first part of the taste enjoyable. It's for sure more in that fruity and fun style. You can kindof get the alcohol but in the way that suggests wine. Then kindof halfway in the alcohol seems to take over and more in the flavors of grain alcohol than wine alcohol and it's a offputting. Preferred the beginning flavors, but overall wasn't keen.

Medium to dark red; fat rounded nose, dark fruit, licorice, ripe dark cherries; nice rounded smooth attack, quite heavy but with good acidity to balance, tar, mild tannins at the end; young and vibrant with a likely long life ahead

Served by the glass. Bored and monotonous. Some note of Provencal herbs and red fruits. Nothing to die for. Juicy but with a watery texture on the palate. Without complexity or depth. It is not necessary to let it age. For those who enjoy this type of wine.
Servido por copas. Aburrido y monótono. Alguna nota de hierbas provenzales y de frutas rojas. Nada por lo que morir. Jugoso aunque de textura acuosa al paladar. Sin complejidad ni profundidad alguna. No hace falta dejarlo envejecer.

Time will Tell!) Im Moment ganz ganz toll!!! 92-93P

Very young appearance as you would expect. This wine seems to be all about the strawberries. Excellent strawberry jam aromas are primary but so, so attractive. Reveals additional goodies in the mouth, plus a firm, crisp mouthfeel. Nice wine. 4-13-16-8: 91/100.

Courtesy of tlv, popped & poured. Much more "classic" CndP profile compared to the Janasse, with notes of garrigue, perfume, red berry fruit, lavender and pepper. Red fruit, spice and garrigue on the palate. Medium- to full-bodied. Finishes with good length; balanced. More rustic than their Cuvee Papet.

Luscious, forward, spicy, fresh, sweet, black raspberries, plums and cherries taste and feel great. The texture is silky and the fruit on the palate sticks with you long after the wine has left the glass.

Un Chateauneuf classique, sur la garrigue et le fruit noir. Bonne longueur, rien de dépasse c’es fort agréable mais j’espère qu’il gagnera un pe en complexité.

Very nice. But nothing to write home about. Will give the next bottle as couple years in cellar to see if it deepens up a bit.
